Apart from the rough trek to the campsite I enjoyed every minute of the 4 days. There didn't seem to be as many people as in previous years so a big "thumbs up" for the extra stage. Cant remember queuing for a drink and the urinals stopped the excessive queuing for the girls.
Food was as good as ever.
My only gripes (I am coming up to 60 !!!!) Modern artists attract the young,of which, the majority are good mannered and respectful of their neighbors, sadly, there were more "louts" about this year. Also sat by the Piano Stage last night before John Grant came on and I would have liked to have heard some of the lovely stuff being played. Silence in the Magic Garden please !!

Herman Dune got me going on Thursday
Beirut.........genius
Leisure Society.........love the clapping !!!
Megafaun......they enjoyed themselves and so did I
Josh T Pearson......way above expectations (couldn't stop thinking of Johnny Cash !!!!)
Other Lives.......Impressive in a Fleet Fox sorta way
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah..........My "must see" act didn't let me down
Micah P Hinson & Phosphorescent........bit off the cuff but enjoyable
John Grant.....Beautiful,voice of the festival, and i like the electronics (check out The Czars, thats what he does)
Only negatives.........Joilie Holland and Wasps
fantastic 4 days with my grown up kids and friends who have never been to a festival who loved every minute.
PS Liked the new set up,didn't seem as full as previous years, especially at the top of the Garden Stage.

Wouldn't miss it for the World. My kids are also coming down again, they had a ball last week.
Will have to get into training though,4 days took it's toll on my body. Probably have to reduce alcohol intake and eat more fruit, drink more water during the festival. It was good though was it not
Hope to meet up with a few people of my own age next year...........kids have no staying power !!

Beirut would be wonderful.

Only stuck to a small itinery this year and they all came up trumps.Felice Brothers because they can do no wrong in my eyes, Elliot Brood for their enthusiasm,Black Mountain for giving me a break from banjos (although I like them !!) Unthanks for the clog dancing, Low Anthem for staying the whole weekend and their Panto set,The Brakes for not swearing and all the other artists who played ukulele !!!
Many thanks to the EOTR team for a memorable 4 days. I'm so worn out that my planned detour to watch The Felice Brothers in Bristol tonight did not happen, anyway they did a Tippi session last nite which was the reason I am so worn out !!! Roll on next year.
PS I had the honour of testing the hot cider and recieving the first pint,I am blessed.
PPS I was stopped by security because they spotted a jar of jam in my bag, thankfully they didn't check out the campsite shop

At the bottom it does say " the start times on thursday have not been announced so we have guessed" etc etc
They had to put in the 2 bands somewhere I guess.

Suspect there's something like this on these forums somewhere or other. I plan on staying "loose" apart from 5 or 6 must watch acts. My kids have got their clashfinders laminated..........and it wont even rain

Last Sunday's Beirut gig in Edinburgh. Packed to the rafters,Zac Condon's voice was exactly the same as on the albums. And to top it off, watching the band stand around waiting to play their next song while the crowd showed their appreciation for sheer genius after a singalong Sunday Smile.
Not much of todays stuff will stand the test of time but I will be playing Beirut for many a year

Its the best festival ever....small, friendly, not far to walk unless you are carrying a huge tent.....lovely people and even better music than you will get anywhere else! Its organised by lovely people who care for those of us who dont want to be walking around sticking to noodles on the floor and 20 miles away from the bands. Its about discovering new music in the woods, unexpectedly, I will buy you a drink if you come. Sue

Ticket now sold. Thanks for the response and roll on September.
-
plus a fiver for registered mail. PM me if interested. John

There was a ticket exchange thingy last year, which worked well for us. My eldest nipper decided he didn't want to go, with one week to go, but we managed to sell his ticket with no hassle at all.
-
Two tickets arrived today. Sadly need to offload one of them at cost price (was it £100 for early bird tickets ??) plus a fiver for recorded delivery. Pass the word around please
Cant wait to see The Felice Bros, the nearest America has to The Pogues IMHO. They have a special place in my heart this year.
-
The best discovery for me, in the short space of time I've had to delve into these acts, is Black Mountain. Great stuff from them. Should wake a few of the folkies up!
-
Simone never left did he? I thought The Duke & The King was/is just a side project.
-
Could not believe my eyes when I saw the Felice Brothers in the list. Ian Felice has a voice to die for and 3 fantastic albums to their name. I am happy !! Maybe Simone (Duke and the King) will join his brothers for a special reunion.
check this for a taster. -
Last night between The flick of a switch and the dream I imagined Arcade Fire, Richard Hawley with A Girl Called Eddy and Guillemots all playing the Garden Stage! It was one hell of a night )
-
Once again they didn't play Champion Angel  Never played it in the Tipi or on the Garden Stage.
I really like that track.
-
Stephen McBean would give value for money, two for the price of one with Black Mountain & The Pink Mountaintops.
-
Thanks for the heads up. I'll record it for the weekend.
-
Not into dissecting performances or looking too deep into "the music" BUT my wife and I left the Big Top thinking we'd seen something a bit special. Four excellent musicians very much together and enjoying their performance plus a charismatic singer.

Thanks you guys!
I feel quite humbled by such thoughtful people!
Yes, was up and at 'em bright and early with three little tinkers to get off to school. Sent Sarah out on a run (Birmingham Half-Marathon in 2 weeks, so no slacking) and have just cleaned the windows and tidied the bathroom cabinet! All in a day's work for a middle-aged metrosexual (had a NIGHTMARE with a new navy nail polish last night, Sue...)
Off to walk up the Malvern Hills when she's back, then back in time for school pick up. Happy Day!
love
Ben

Has anyone mentioned Cambridge? Dont know how big it is but I have a friend who goes every year and says its wonderful...anyone else been??? Wookey I think (but I may be wrong about where you live) that Beautiful Days is in my/your part of the world.... near Exeter. And that there is also the very small Chagstock on Dartmoor which I have been to and is very small but was good when I went. Hope this helps
