  1. This year, that I could detect, there were no water taps inside the Festival.

The bar staff were prohibited from selling water bottles with caps on.

Does Kendal Calling really need a dehydration-related death before it reverts to the 2014 taps policy?

That's probably by only major gripe with the festival, especially considering how warm the likes of the House Party can get it's pretty poor that a) you have to pay for water and B) the bars keep the lids.

On the subject of food, I only bought a burger one day from one of the "normal" vans and it was decent enough, better than your average festival fare. The stuff we got last year was lovely though, and pretty well priced.

  2. Only couple of things I'd like to see imrpoved on would be:

    - More lighting, in general. It's really dark at some points of the campsite, even on paths. I noticed this last year too, where we were camped was OK but we spent most of our time at our pals' tent and it was pitch black at night.

    - A few food stalls dotted around the campsite would be good, even just one in each corner or something. It wasn't a big deal last year, but when it was so wet it just seemed like a huge effort to trudge down to the middle bit. More water taps around the whole site would be useful too.

    - The big wind-y bit on the way in was nuisance. Fine when there's a big queue, but when it's relatively quiet it's daft to have people snaking round 6/7 lanes, especially in the rain. Sniffer dogs are also rubbish.

    - Tim Peaks is a bit of a waste of times for a band. Went to see Frankie & The Heartstrings and chucked it after one song, was like watching a band in an over-heated bike shed.

    - Apple cider at the bars. The pear and fruit ones can be a bit sickening after a while, so are hot cans of Carlsberg.

  3. There's a few smaller bands I'm looking forward to, but I'd be lying if I said the big 3 weren't Suede, OCS and the Mondays.

For anyone who hasn't seen Simon & Oscar before, I'd highly recommend it. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen the full band, yet out of all of them the couple of times I've saw those two count amongst the very best. Seeing them in their adopted homeland of Glasgow probably helps, right enough!

  4. Been fortunate enough to acquire VIP passes, anyone know what the deal is with those?*

*Specifically, does it involve free booze at any point?! :drinks:

Edit: We were camped a wee bit away from the arena entrance last year (just to the left when you came in the main entrance) and it seemed that the camping areas nearer the arena were really dark at night with no lighting. Was that actually the case when you were there?

  5. The biggest improvement would be to have more lights in the campsite and in the central parts of the arena. It's pitch black at night, pretty dodgy on several levels really.

A decent range of music after the main acts finish would be good too, the Baggy Mondays thing in the House Party tent was good but apart from that it all seemed a bit samey.

  6. Touch a nerve did I?

My comment was about the people posting on here who only seem bothered about getting caught with drugs....it's simple, if you don't wanna get caught then don't take anything.

I'm not against joints, but are coke & e's the sort of stuff to be taken to a festival like this? IN MY OPINION, no.

Oh, and by the way, where did I make the assumption you're mentioning?

  7. I know there's the no gazebo thing, but is that likely to be enforced if we were to stick one up later on on the Saturday? Obviously it's understandable early on as they take up a bit more space, but we were wondering if it'd be acceptable to put one up if there's space once everyone's arrived.

  8. Dosage is all. Like alcohol, lots of drinking, several bars, but people should be drinking to the merryish stage rather than the wrestling lampposts / hailing ambulances-as-taxi-cabs stage.

Same with other stuff. Selfish stupid and dangerous to be having a high-dose acid trip in the playpark Saturday morning, but on the other hand it shouldn't harm the wains if a few dirty ravers chew down the jive crumbs in the Glow Tent at midnight.

  9. We're in emperors and I haven't had any separate email about it - the info email suggests there is another one been sent out but it's not clear whether or not that refers to Campervan/LIV's. Just spotted that emperors have a kids breakfast club, and so far I've gleaned we get one free phone charge (doesn't say how long), free showers, pootopia (as does general this year), closer parking, more space, separate entrance.....and that's as much as I've read about so far.

Not sure whether to take our trolley or whether we'll be ok carrying gear from car to pitch in emperors, haven't got a huge amount - but maybe 3 trips as opposed to one with the trolley - anyone?

We were in general last year, arrived at 9 on Fri and parked really close to main gate (left at 8am on the Mon and were away within 5 mins), but we queued for almost 3 hours to get in, However they have said there'll be more gates and ticket scanners to speed this up this year so might not be too bad, they thoroughly searched our bags and took any glass off people, as well as alcohol off the young 'uns - I seen lemonade bottles with the seal broken being sniffed and confiscated. There was also a dog on the gates day 1.
