  1. Hey guys,

My plans have taken a turn, and I can´t make it to Beni after all. So, I´m selling my tickets - 2 x 4 day camping passes for 180€/150quid. Just want to reclaim some of the money I shelled out. Please send me a PM if you are interested!

    Cheers!

  2. I´m not sure that everyone isn´t getting a little ahead of themselves: if they have sold us all tickets that include free camping, we obviously all get free camping, period. Spain is an EU country, and bound by the same sales laws as everyone else - they can´t make you pay extra for something you have already paid for. Nowhere does it say that if you dont get into FIBCamp your only alternative is the paid site, so I reckon provisions will be in place to cover everybody even if no one took up the VillaCamp option.

I do think it is cheeky that they have allocated the "better" site as a paid option now, but lets face it: it was always a bunfight to get in, and now people can pay a bit extra to get on it if they want to, with the added bonus of nice facilities too. If you don´t want to pay, fine - you´ll still get camped and still get to see all the bands. It does seem a bit like everyone is going mental for no other reason than they may not get on the campsite they wanted. Unfortunately, that´s just the way things are sometimes.

I´m considering paying for it - it sounds quite nice, and I don´t enjoy the pile up in festie camping anymore. I usually camp offsite anyway, so may well check it out as an option.

  3. Sorry, mate, but the Spanish part of the website says:

El cartel quedará cerrado con la incorporación del ganador de Fast Track to FIB Heineken 2010 – cuya final se celebrará el día 8 de junio – y los DJs de Eastpak Club (antes Pista Pop).

"The line-up will close with the incorporation of the winner of Fast Track to FIB 2010 - the final takes place on 8th June - and the DJs for Eastpak Club (formerly Pista Pop)."

The DJs are normally OK - they won´t drag you away from the bigger names, but are a nice dance spot with less people later on.

  4. Nah, that´s basically it, bar the winning entry from Fast Track to FIB, and the regular smaller DJs on the Eastpak Club stage (formerly the Pista Pop).

It has ended up a pretty acceptable line up - the only weird thing is the large number of folky bands there this year. I wonder how the clubbing crowd will take to it - I imagine the place will be pretty quiet until later on in the evening. Not a lot for the indie kids either - still, its a festie, it isn´t exactly going to be a bad weekend. I bet they don´t sell out this year though.....

  5. Just to pass on the word: Delorean are amazing live, saw em at beni last year, and they were a highlight. I have since caught them in a club gig, and they are part of a great new wave of Spanish music - go check em out if you are at Sonar!

  6. Nice map - thats a great help for a first time visitor.

We are likely to be turning up on the Friday night pretty lateish maybe 2am, anyone got any idea if we will be able to get our wristbands at this time of night ????

    Thanks

  7. Like i said im not a drug taker, but i know people who are and they arent gurning vomiting arseholes, they are just ultra happy and all lovey dovey when they take mdma.

Festivals and drugs go hand in hand and always have done, it personally doesnt bother me. It certainly isnt a British phenomenon either!

Any trouble ive ever seen at a festival or a club for that matter has always been booze related anyway.Live and let live.

I would tell you to take a chill pill but ......

  8. Well, what a turnaround: the Spanish seem to be cheered up with this announcement. I am too, nice to see a top, current act finally getting announced (and one I have yet to see!).

Now, if they could just get Orbital.... but it ain´t gonna happen....

  9. Just wanted to bump this for some info - I managed to bag a ticket at the last minute, and it was an excellent festival. Orbital in particular blew me away - I have never enjoyed an electronic act so much in my life!

To properly answer the questions from before:

The festie runs on a Friday and Saturday night - the music starts at 6PM and runs until about 6AM. It seems you get booted out around then, but the town offers all sorts of stuff (bars, some music, etc.) around then to keep you going if you like.

The festie takes place at the eastern end of the centre of town - aim to find somewhere in the region of Los Dolores or Rincon de Velarde if you want to walk. It did seem like a lot of the hotels laid on transport too, though, so it would be worth enquiring about that when you book. Parking nearby is pretty tough, but several enterprising locals took it on themselves to point out spaces to tourists for a couple of Euros - I took the plunge, and ended up about 5 mins walk from the entrance.

The really nice thing for many people will be the lack of Brits - although I would like to say that I feel loads of Brits really add to the atmosphere at a festival for me (I seem to be one of the few English who love my own people, warts and all!). Spanish kids tend to only turn up for the headliner, and then hang around outside, making getting in and out a bit of a headf**k - but, as I said, that is only my opinion. If you want to enjoy a pretty Spanish experience, go, hit the local bars about 7PM for some food etc., wander in 20 mins before the main act start, and drink loads of shots - you´ll pick up loads of new friends on the way.

As I said, good festie overall, some rain didn´t dampen anyones spirits - only thing was the VIP area got flooded and we had to wait a couple of hours to get in, and some locals got really pissy about it. TBH, though, they seemed to be the ones that never left the bar for any music, so I had to have a chuckle to myself. Their feet must have been hurting in their heels.....

So, highly recommended - make it a part of a long weekend (Thursday to Monday would be ideal!), and you could have a great inexpensive foreign festie experience!

  10. I just got bored of people moaning over and over and over about everything. But your right only one beni thread was unusual. Cant go making it easy for people to find out what they want to know now can we though. Only joking.

whatever happened to the official forum on fiberfib.com???

  11. Hi guys,

I´m trying to get together a couple of articles about EIID to post about the web / printed press, ideally leading up to a review of the festie. So I need some help!

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a ) some history behind the festie; b ) why it is popular (I would be happy to get some quotes from regular visitors!); and c ) anyone I could mail a few questions to?

And before anyone gets on at me for being a lazy journo - I won´t get paid for any articles I write. I am just looking for some credibility, and I am sure the promoters would be happy to get some free work done to help promote the festie.

    Thanks in advance!

  12. oebs - no problem mate. PM me, and we will meet up for a beer when you get there - I´m gonna be going up Tuesday night for a week.

Might even be able to give you a lift most of the way...? I´m going from Javea, its about an hours bus ride from Alicante on the way to Beni. PM me your flight deets and we will see. I could help you get a tent too!

  13. You can camp in one of the paid campsites around the edge of town, but be warned: the prices go way up for Beni week. We paid 200€ for a week camping with leccy last year (2 people one tent), and were quite a way from the festie site. The only way to get into the festie campsites is with a 4 day ABONO pass; the 4 day packs also do not let you on.

Day tickets for Beni go for about 70€ each on the day: you will need to queue from about 8.30 AM to stand a chance, and they are limited.

  14. Best options are either somewhere like Carrefour, or Decathlon ( you will likely need a taxi there form the airport). Be warned, though, they ain´t that cheap compared to the UK - I imported mine as it was still a better tent for less from Worldofcamping.co.uk.

    decathlon -

    http://www.decathlon.es/ES/2-seconds-simple-i-33683891/

    Variety of colours for 25€.

When you get to the shop, ask for "tiendas de campaña barata" (tee-enders day campanya ba-ra-ta) - cheap camping tents. You should then get shown what they have.

One problem is stock - Spanish retailers don´t carry much, and if a lot of peeps are planning on doing the same thing, they will run out quick!

If I see any deals I will let you know, but if you can get a 10 quid tent in the UK and bring it, that will likely be your best option. You can then use the space after for booze and fags to take back.......

  15. Just posting a quick apology to all you guys really - sorry that my last post was pretty whiny. I have had a pretty tragic last fortnight is all I can say in my defence.

I do hope we get just a couple more decent names, but I´m OK with the line up so far - I still don´t agree that the headliners match the price of the ticket, but tbh, I´m happy enough to see Kasabian, Klaxons, Foals, Leftfield, Mumford and Temper Trap. Think I´ll give Dizzee Rascal a miss though....

And I still don´t get Vampire Weekend - I now have the album, tried it in the car for a bit, and it still sounds like Paul Simon. I have to officially accept I am getting old, and you kids like stuff that Granpa can´t get into.......

    Roll on July!

  16. Edisonic - I appreciate what you say, and I don´t disagree that as part of a holiday it really is great, but for some of us, this is a ) the only festival we are doing this year, and b ) something we bought early based on previous strong line ups because we have to budget well in advance.

I live and work in Spain, and have been to Beni (and some other Spanish fesivals too!) many times - the fact is, like most locals, we really can only afford the time off (and the prices!) for one festival a year. I bought my tickets in March, as I had to spread my wage - I am a fully qualified PC technician, and take home less (by comparison) than your average shop worker in the UK by a considerable difference. Couple that with huge rises in living costs in the last year, and we lay out a noticeable amount for what seems to be a poor line up for the price.

I am really glad that so many people see it differently to me, and really glad that you all can take it more in your stride - I have booked off a week of work (one of only two per year, and which I now cannot change) and laid out a large percentage of my wage to go, and am not happy with the lack of big names. Living in Spain, we get very few big acts come to perform at all, and usually only midweek in Madrid or Barcelona, making it impossible for most people to see them, so we rely on festivals.

All I can say is, for me and my partner, it is a let down of a line up - I am sure I will discover some good bands, but it would have been the same with a few bigger names too. Like many expats, I expect I will return to the UK within the next year, and then enjoy the choice of festivals you all maybe take a little for granted.
