  1. Can you get a refund if you have already paid for your tickets, two of the group have had a change of mind about going now and i really can't be bothered going on my own. Not bothered on them losing any money,so pissed off with them.
  2. I think you missed my point. Glastonbury has always been diverse in its musical tastes. More so than probably any other festival in the world. But there was a hell of a lot of bad press saying that he wasn't a "glastonbury headliner". That it should be a white indie/rock act etc ... there was so much fuss about it that Jay-Z offered to pull out. It was such a high profile gig, the UK and a lot of world were watching. I think a lot of Glastonbury punters were determined to show those watching that Glastonbury was totally accepting of all types of music, as it always had been, and that the press had totally misjudged glastonbury.

The pyramid field was totally loving Jay-Z that night, and Jay-Z was totally loving people of Glastonbury. It had a special feel to it

  3. Saying he is the most important musical artist this century isn't the most ludicrous thing i've ever read, thats tame compared to some of the shit spouted on these boards. People who dismiss that i'm not totally sure understand the cultural importance of Jay-Z and everything he embodies.

I personally thought his '08 set was epic, and I wasn't a fan of his before, but everybody who i know who was there felt something important happened that night. Yeah sure, he was a hip hop artist headlining glasto, but I don't think that was the most important thing that night. It was the people of Glastonbury showing Jay-Z and the world that the bad press and the naysayers weren't speaking for them, that the people of Glastonbury are open minded and accepting of all forms of music, and that he was more than welcome at our festival. There was a lot of love in the field that night.

  4. Dependant on mood....

Bob Dylan - Chimes Of Freedom

    Bob Dylan - Hard Rain

Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond

Carbon Leaf - The War Was In Colour

    Louis Armstrong - Wonderful World

The Furies - Green Fields Of France

    Gary Jules - Mad World

Emmylou Harris - Red Dirt Girl

The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again

Warren Zevon - Lawyers, Guns and Money

    Dave Alvin - Highway 61

and about 200 others... all a bit unlikely with the current rumored line up.

  5. This guy came up with this when the US still had apartheid (just with a different name). To think he would perform this when he wouldn't even have been allowed to sit in the audience. He and his contemporaries, Fats Waller, Nat King Cole etc had, and probably still do, have far more influence than Jay-Z ever will.

  6. I've filled it in - couple of points though.

The first page - I've filled in the details non-specifically - there's no way I'm putting that info on a non-secure web page!

Most of the questions seem to assume that people always go as part of a group of friends, and decisions are based on, or influenced by, what the group wants. Many, including us, go on their own or as a couple.

  7. don't ask, just ell them...

the worst they can do is to not authorise it, but they can't disallow it

we used to say our daughter won't be at school for these days due to a family holiday :P

  8. Can anyone help please. When people are adding presumably youtube add ins I cant see them I just get a blank square with another very small square with a few colours in it in the top left hand corner of the big square. It all used to work and now it doesn't (

    Please?

  9. I'm more than happy to admit that I fell for YumYum's little joke - nice one, plausible enough to work well. It's interesting to note who reacted, and how. The "Usual Suspects" I call them, about half a dozen people who will argue the toss about anything, and are usually quite rude about it, just like all forums/newsgroups. Some things never change I suppose.

  10. I've actually watched and RW concert on the TV, which I quite enjoyed (small cigars to blame probably :P ), and I'm sure he'd be a great warm-up act for SW. RW without doubt knows how to get a crowd going. Neither are what I want to see sat in a field in Somerset though, so I'll be elsewhere, but I'm sure fans of either/both will have a lovely time.

The cancer thing? My sister has just been given the all clear, but as she was told there is never a complete fix for cancer - you might get lucky, you probably won't, the issue being rather more likely to be when rather than if.

Edit : Got my mucking fords wuddled...

  11. Lucy - have you considered working for CTM at the festival? If I were you I'd take up the offers of help, but I can understand your dilemma, so that could be an alternative? Having said that, I've just had their terms and conditions through for Glastonbury (luckily we just manage to scrape enough together to pay off the balance so we won;t have to go down that route) - they are pretty shit!

Hope it all works out ok for you.

  12. Excellent stuff - and I'm not just saying that to be nice.

How do you rate it on YouTube? Can't see a button!

Edit - OK, found it - 5* from me (aka CellarStoners)

And she gets a very well deserved vote too.
