  1. Showers are separate and they are private cabins anyway. At least they were when I last showered at Lowlands but that's a few years ago. Some girls choose to shower with the guys because the queue is much shorter. Showers cost one munt (two quid).
  2. Actually, there's also still some work on the line-up. Soulsavers have cancelled, and they have been replaced by Ghinzu. A Belgian group, I had never heard of them, but doesn't sound too bad... (www.myspace.com/ghinzu)

Also, there's still that gap in the Grolsch on Saturday between 5 and 6. There's a very strong rumour now that, as with the gap in the Pukkelpop schedule on Thursday, this will be filled in by Them Crooked Vultures. Apparently (source), Lowlands were offered this name, without knowing what group it was. And they took it. But as it turns out, this is actually a new supergroup, featuring Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters), Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin).

Yes - how awesome would that be...!!! Fingers crossed... B)

  3. Yeah, you can hand in any coins ('munt' is really just Dutch for 'coin') you've got left at the end of the festival. And yes, you do get money for them, too...

A Jaeger tent? Don't know if you have anything specific in mind...? They do have places that sell cocktails, but if I haven't somehow managed always to miss out on that, I don't think Jägermeister or anything of that kind will be sold anywhere. You're free to bring your own to the campsites though. There's some limit on that (which of course I can't find...), but they don't quite check everyone's luggage (don't think I had mine checked in the past few years). Or just divide larger quantities among friends, of course.

  4. is there a big queue to get in and out of the camping grounds to the festival site as If its a half hour walk like download 2008 then i may just get food in thefestival zone, but its allways soo over priced.
  5. But here's a tip: unless you're on a tight budget or a strict diet, just go for the Lowlands food. Some festivals limit themselves to burgers and fries but at Lowlands you can eat anything from eggs and bacon on toast to beef stroganoff to wok to pancakes.
  6. I'm also curious about The Gaslamp Killer; I heard a lot of good stuff about him, and being programmed at 3:30am on Friday, he doesn't really clash with anyone. :)

Last Thursday's festival magazine has also been put online in full now; see http://www.livexs.nl/media/lowlands_programmakrant_2009.php. I know, all in Dutch, so not that helpful, but there's a festival map on page 35. And the texts are just about bands and acts anyway. There was also a video of some kind of tour of the festival grounds last year, but I can't find that... Anyway, for an impression of the Cape Lowlands part, check

(although they've swapped the Lima with the X-Ray this year).

Okay, now I've been spamming this thread enough, I think.

  7. See my post(s) above (previous forum page) on how to get tickets last minute!

Edit: additional names: OneTrickPony, Dekmantel Soundsystem, Alberta Cross. I guess the big name that has been promised(?) is not among these ones... :P

  8. You can just look up old pictures; they don't change the site too much every year (but from 2007 or 2008 preferably). There is also a yearly special in a Dutch newspaper about Lowlands, which will appear next Thursday. Apart from general info on bands and the festival, this will feature the complete schedule, as well as a map of the festival site. It was available online in pdf format as well last year, so here's hoping they will do that again!

    About some recent news:

    - 'Into the groove(tube)' is about the Groovetube tent on the festival site. This one has no specific acts, but just djs playing all day long. During daytime, it's mostly for chilling out (they serve cocktails there  ), but in the evening, they play a lot of urban&related. Quite a cool place, and it's open the longest on the entire site - think it closes only at 5am or so (okay, the Lowlands cafe is open till 10 or 11am or so, but then that's not really on the festival site itself  ).

    - 'Schiffmacher & friends' is about (famous) tattoo artists that will be at the festival.

    - 'Lowlands zingt' says that on Saturday at 1pm in the Alpha tent, there will be some kind of singalong event, where they will be playing all kinds of classic Lowlands songs, with the lyrics displayed on the screens and a number of famous people (probably Dutch?) on stage. Might be fun - if I can be bothered to get out of my tent that early... :)

The rest is mostly about tickets, that newspaper thing, magazines and that kind of stuff.

    Hope this helps!

  9. Yeah, very keyboard-based all round... It's like the britpop of a few years ago, when guitar bands were all over the place (2004 especially, when they had an extra stage just to be able to have all those bands). It's not what I prefer, but there is a lot of nice stuff among those as well (lots to discover), and the stage and performance energy is definitely there...! And there are a lot of guitar acts anyway; seems like we're having a pretty varied programme this year.

Oh, latest news: Jenny Lewis has cancelled...

  10. Yeah, Eurostar (train) tickets can vary a lot, depending on when you book. Still, the advantage is that a ticket London-Brussels is also valid for the connected journey to any station in Belgium. An alternative might be Eurolines (bus), which could be pretty cheap (but book timely; gets very crowded in vacation periods), but then you'd still have to pay for your train (or bus?) journey from Brussels or Antwerp to Hasselt.

  11. Oh, right, on the topic of additions to the Lowlands line-up, more names have been announced again:

    Amanda Blank

    Buraka Som Sistema

    Lil' Vic

    The Subs

    Funckarma

    I-F

    Moderat

    Mala

    Squarepusher

    Melon

    Pilooski

    DJ Koze

    Silkie & Quest

    Joost van Bellen

    Optimo

    Reverend & The Makers

    Kumpania Algazarra

Not really my stuff, but it's also been said that there's still some more to come, including (apparently?) at least one big name - so looking forward to that!

  12. Actually, as far as I'm concerned, they should keep it pretty much as it is... We'll see how comes out on top when the final timetable's there!

Tickets: dunno what you can find on auction sites. On the LL website, they pointed to an official 'ticket trade' website: http://tickettrade.livenation.nl/ Don't know how that will work for you though. They also said that the tickets that were bought by agencies and have been cancelled will be sold again, but it's still not clear how and when that's going to happen.

Oh, and it has been said that a big name will be revealed this evening! Placebo? (since they're also playing nearby Pukkelpop and are free during LL)

  13. I know, this is getting kinda boring, but still, new names again (apart from the first three all dance(-ish) acts and djs):

    Jessica Lea Mayfield

    Jenna Lewis

    Kitty, Daisy & Lewis

    Little Boots

    Soulsavers

    Crystal Antlers

    Stijn

    Chase & Status

    Nuno Dos Santos

    Boemklatsch

    Kees van Hondt

Also, the schedule for Friday has leaked. Apaprently, it was placed online accidently, and already noticed and copied before they could take it off again. Text version: http://forum.fok.nl/topic/1309852/2/50#70691734; graphical version: http://www.lolwands.nl/timetable. Would fit me pretty nicely, actually - but someone from LL09 has said that it is only a temporary one that is still subject to change... The final version will be released 30 July! (they say, anyway :D )

  14. I wasn't - at least being at home cannot really be disappointing. ;)

New names announced today, by the way:

    The Virgins

    Jack Peñate

    DeVotchKa

    Fever Ray

    Nina Kinert

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

    Micachu & The Shapes

    Fanfarlo

    Benjamin Herman & Guests

    Ziggi & The Renaissance Band

    Benga

    Brookes Brothers

    Peaches

    Asher Roth

    Noisia

And more to come still, they say on their website!

  15. At least it's relatively easy to pronounce (once you've managed to get the basic sounds right, anyway). But swearing shouldn't be such of a problem; drunken Finns do so all the time! 'Saatana' would also be a good one - but make sure you pronounce it differently from 'sata' ('hundred'); you might get some odd looks otherwise... :D

Anyway, Finns speak very good English; I suppose pretty much all young people I met when I lived there could converse in English (in various degrees, but anyway), so no need to worry about it. Although, of course, it's very much appreciated if you actually put an effort into knowing/speaking some Finnish. :) (perhaps in Finland even more than elsewhere, as the language is just so completely unknown and remote)
