  1. Good thread. Could someone who has been to both Reading and Download recently please answer this for me? How do the following compare between the two festivals:

-Food and drink prices (pretty similar I assume)

-Twats burning stuff on last night of festival

-Long walk from car park to campsite

-General twattishness of crowd, i.e. with Reading being full of 15/16 year olds spending their first weekend away from home, drinking their first ever 4-pack of beers, etc.

Me and my friends are looking for a Reading alternative, and Download looks like the best option at the moment. Many thanks.

  2. If he does play does this put an end to the chance of a radiohead set?

I would love them to play, their headline set at Reading last year was most capitvating experience probably the best set ive ever seen.

Have they commented on whether they will or wont be touring this year...?

  3. Saw them at Kendal Calling in this tiny little folk tent, snuck round the back of the fence afterwards n got the chance to meet em. Great guys modest great sense of humour etc bar marcus he's a bit up himself shame really didnt expect that

  4. Which reminds me. 2007. My friend called Ann was at her first ever Glastonbury with her german buddy Fran. Anns' lifes mission was to see The Killers on the Pyramid. So they drive to G on the Thursday evening. Car breaks down in Glastonbury town. AA tows them all the way back to London, they cough up to hire a car on the friday, finally getting there for 2pm. Fran throws a hissy fit about the disgustingness of the toilets, the mud, the rain, the noise etc etc etc. She demands to go back to London, refuses to do the decent thing and catch the train home alone, rather blackmails Ann to drive her all the way back to London. Glastonbury ended there for Ann after 20 hours and Ann still has not seen the Killers.
  5. This year I went to Wakestock Kendal Calling and Reading.

I had a great time at all of them and would especially recommend kendal calling, however I spent a massive amount of money on food tickets travel etc.

Like everybody on this forum Im fanatic about fests and would go to all of them if I could (who knew sittig in a field with a warm beer could be so appealing) the problem is i just cant afford it also Im 17 and most fests hav a minumum age requirement of stewards as 18.

Is there any other way I could go to fests like beautiful days SGP Big Chill Wickerman etc without jumping the fence (not worth the hassle) or buying a ticket, anybody on here a "somebody" because you all seem to go to loads.

Just as an afer thought are the ticket prices being charged by the likes of SGP and dare I say it Glasto ;) realy justified....

  6. Dont get me wrong there's plenty worst than coldplay but it's what they represent; yet another regurgicated festival band. It's a habbit many of the UK festivals have got into playing it safe when it comes to booking headliners why, because they know it will sell tickets. Mind you if all we do is slag them of when they do take a punt (i.e jay-z) you cant blame them.

  7. Some people might think that. Others (like me) just geuninely dislike them and the dross that they have released recently. First album was pretty good to be honest (second one not bad either). After that, Chris Martin disappeared up his own wispering arse and they haven't released anything decent since.

Of course, that is just the opinion of one grumpy b*stard. I would just prefer another band to be given the headline slot that isn't Coldplay or Muse, i.e. someone different who hasn't played before.

  8. Not really the point, as I said, it dosent sound good refering to any body simply by thier father, you are right, I shouldnt have assumed that it was Ziggy you wre refering to but as you didnt bother to say who you meant when you staryted a conversation I think I should be forgiven.

Mainly, I grew up with Bob Marleys music, it moved me and spoke to me. Refering to someone simply as "Bob Marleys son" is demeaniong them both. Not Good. He has a name.

  9. it also gets a lot quieter much later on.. see the headliners on the big stages, then take your time getting over there (last year we had a nice detour to Croissant Neuf which finished about 2am i think). then there's the Avalon Inn or that nice little bar just off the railway closer to the entrance to Shangrila (i forget it's name but it has live music on) and numerous other stop offs before getting into the proper late night spots when the crowds have died down a bit.
  10. I for one would be avoiding them like the plague

on the other hand it would give me a chance to catch the like of TC and Shangri'la

    hhhmmmmm......

After much deliberation I hope there is a BAD headliner such as coldplay as it means i can avoid at least one evening at pyramid and get some quality time elsewhere without it being packed out.

  11. Spot on, I was at Leeds and the tent for Faith No More was only half full, but they were up against KOL who got by far the biggest crowd of the weekend, most of which were looking forward to two songs!

Faith No More at Glastonbury would be a different proposition, you only need to compare the crowd for someone like Nick Cave at Glastonbury towards the sparse turn out at T in the Park to see that the corporate festivals are attracting more and more 'pop-kids'.

Last year at Leeds for Faith No More was the final straw for me, I've had enough of it and think I'm attending the wrong festival for me so I'm making my debut at Glastonbury this year.
