  1. I'm not sure what you can and cannot achieve with an IBAN number TBH but anyone who's been asked to supply one should discuss the matter in detail with their Bank before responding. Technically, it's just for sending funds and is used to effectively route the money from any Bank just about anywhere to a specific A/C at a specific Bank in a specific Country. It's basically made up of your sort code and your A/C number (both as printed on your cheques) plus a code to say UK etc. It is however perhaps possible that the info could be misused so peeps are right to be concerned about supplying more info to known scammers so FFS, DISCUSS WITH YOUR BANK FIRST. It may be perfectly OK it may not, only they can advise you accordingly. However, it is ONLY of any possible relevance if you lost money by cheque or debit card AND the bank has already refused to help. It is completely irrelevant if you paid or otherwise lost money via your credit card IMO.

If you paid (or were otherwise relieved of do$h) via your credit card then I would suggest not responding to anything from SOSTM at all and not even mentioning to anyone that they have contacted you either - particularly not to your credit card company. Just pursue a claim for fraud and/or non-delivery directly with the credit card company. The credit card company is EQUALLY LIABLE for your loss and it's you that has the choice who you claim against. As far as they're concerned, you've received no refund, no goods and no communications from SOSMT so are claiming against them. Don't get any more involved with SOSMT than you absolutely have to just in case and definitely not without taking professional advice first. Whilst they could possibly be trying hard to put things right, they could equally be trying to get another pocketful of your do$h as well.

If you are in any doubt as to what you should be doing and who you should be dealing with to try and get your do$h returned, you should be discussing this with your Bank or credit card company first and then Trading Standards, ConsumerDirect, Citizens Advice or any other appropriate organisation or legal advisor if necessary. The situation with credit cards companies is pretty simple - it's THEIR problem - but in all other cases, do yourself a big favour and get the right advice from the right people because you really don't want to make matters any worse than they are already do you.

  2. And I'm trying to stop someone making a mistake again by giving out more information. He wants your iban for a reason and it's not for a refund. This guy is cleaning people out left right and centre so the best thing for people to do is cancelled anything with details relating to this transaction and watch your account to make sure he doesn't go back in (like he did to me - I got the first £300 back and he went in again for £600)
  3. An IBAN number is the same as your account number which isn't a secret as every time you write a cheque you give this number out.

Call your bank and ask them for advice.

Personally I would give this guy the number, it's most likely your ONLY chance of ever receiving a refund if you didn't pay by credit card.

He won't be able to make a withdrawal. IBAN numbers are used in business all the time for making payments. Not withdrawals.

  4. DO YOU WORK FOR THIS GUY....

DON'T GIVE HIM ANYMORE OF YOUR INFORMATION AS HE IS A SCAM AND CON ARTIST AND HAS TAKEN MILLIONS FROM PEOPLE. THE NEWS HAS EVEN BROADCAST THIS. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE HIM ANYMORE OF YOUR INFORMATION AS HE WILL JUST CONTINUE TO TAKE TAKE TAKE. LEARN FROM THE MISTAKE WE ALL MADE BUT DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AGAIN AND GIVE HIM MORE INFORMATION DO YOU REALLY THINK HE IS GOING TO REFUND YOU WHEN HIS COMPANY NO LONGER EXISTS!!!

I'm new to this guys but had to join to try and stop you making an even bigger mistake. I'm in the same boat and have lost £600 on Reading tickets but you have to take it on the chin, call yourself a fool for doing it and get your money back through the bank. Harsh lessons leanrt for all of us I think

  5. How strange?

Your Iban number is the number used for international bank transfers. It will contain your account number plus some extra information such as your bank code.

I think it should be OK to give to him, but double check with your bank that a withdrawal can't be made using it.

If fact this may be your only hope of getting a refund.

  6. I have had an email from SOS Master Ticket Chris Stock saying that he will reinburse me my finanical outlay for getting to V - see below: But he has asked for my iban on my account - whats that? is it safe?

    Laura ,

First I would like to appologise for any inconveinance caused , if you can forward me an iban no for your bank account , I will personally make sure the refund is done, tom being fri , and will email you as soon it as been done.

    Regards

    Chris stock

Hello, ref my ticket order: 18059

I have only just received this email and this is unfortunate as I have spent a waisted day traveling all the way to the V festival to learn that "Jay" was not contactable, as his mobile phone was switched off so I could not retrieve my tickets.I was advised by Festival organizers and the police that SOS ticket have let 100's of people down including families with small children - this is disgusting!!! I booked these tickets for my younger brother for his birthday who has a mental health condition, he has been been through hell this year and I thought that this gig would cheer him up, but you have brought nothing but further disappointment for him. You also charged me £30 for parking???!!! when I arrived at the venue the car parks only cost £10??!! so that's a rip off before we even begin and as I couldn't find "Jay" I had to pay another £10 to park so I could look for him - I don't know if you are aware but there a f**king credit crunch here in the UK!!! and I'm not exactly flush at the minute. Therefore I am attaching a breakdown of expenses for which I am claiming for, including compensation for petrol, baby sitters and inconvenience fees which I expect to be paid into my account no later than 29th August as you have suggested. Can you also explain why the tickets were not available when your terms and conditions clearly state that tickets are always available at the time of purchase? If my full expenses have not been refunded into my account I will be contacting Trading Standards, the Police, Watchdog and I will comment on every events website advising people not to book with you. SOS?? Are you having a f**king laugh? Yours sincerley Laura Stock

  7. This is somewhat OT for the thread but those asking about the scale or regularity of problems like this and questioning how the b*ggers manage to keep getting away with it might like to have a quicky read of this article from The Guardian earlier this year.

Despite operations being repeatedly shut down, this particular scumbag has had a shiny new company with a shiny new site up and running almost within hours of any action being taken. The kinda figures bandied about in the article and elsewhere are quite staggering and run into £Millions. You can be as close to absolutely certain as it's possible to be without his confirmation that he's still operating somewhere ripping peeps off. I would put (a fairly large sum of) money on him being behind some of the various other scumbag sites already mentioned in this thread in addition to the site quoted in the above article. Of course, he's by no means the only one out there. There's plenty of wannabee's ready and waiting to relieve you of your do$h as well.

It's a complete minefield even for those wary enough to check things out as best they can before parting with money. For those naively thinking that a ticket agency is just a ticket agency and they're all about the same, it's a nightmare waiting to happen. What's dodgy but seems OK(ish) today may well not even be there tomorrow let alone by this time next year or some other relatively long time in the future.

The only safe bet is using the official authorised agencies as quoted by the event organisers and believing the sold out signs when they appear ... but keep checking cos they often 'lie' and official tickets do often mysteriously appear after all hope has apparently gone :P Doing absolutely anything else is dodgy - varying from dodgy and probably expensive but successful to a dodgy and very expensive con job. Always use a credit card, always do some homework, and if you really must go the dodgy route then understand that problems can and do happen. There are no guarantees when buying tickets through unofficial sources other than the one which effectively says that you WILL pay for them whether they're genuine or fake, whether they turn up or not and whether they get you in or leave you standing outside feeling very silly and very p*ssed off.

  8. I'm really sorry to hear what's happened to you guys, it sucks big time.

I've got a couple of tips to help prevent being scammed by websites in future.

You can check the details of a domain using a site such as http://whois.domaintools.com/sosmasterticket.com

One of the things to look for is the creation date.

    Created: 2008-04-04

    Expires: 2010-04-04

This site was created earlier this year just before the beginning of the festival season (That should ring alarm bells for starters). They also purchased the domain for only two years which is the minimum, when they could have secured it for up to 10 years, which indicates they weren't planning to use it long term (note that NOMINET domains e.g. .co.uk, can only be purchased for 2 years at a time).

Some scammers will purchase a domain several years in advance to give the appearance of an older site. This can easily be checked using the Wayback Machine Internet Archive. It only records the history after six months, so won't work with the SOS site yet, but I can show how it works on efests

    http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.efestivals.co.uk

(for a bit of fun, have a look at Google, Amazon & YouTube)

As you can see, it has a history of each website, so you can check to see if it's been live for long and if it has, you can see what they've been doing in that time.

Based on the information above, I wouldn't have given SOS my money.

These techniques are far from foolproof, but they do give you a bit of background information to help you make an informed decision whether to do business with them or not.

Sorry non of this will help anyone who has been scammed by these guys, but hopefully someone will find it useful in the future.

I don't want to panic anyone, but how did the payment processor work? Did it send you offsite to complete the payment details with a bank/reputable payment processor? Or did you fill out the card details within the website? If it's the later, then there's a chance these guys have your card details including the three digit security code on the back of the card. If you were sent offsite, then you should be ok.

BTW The BBC story is now online http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7570516.stm

  9. I also got scammed by them aswell I did a company check and found out the directors name is Mr Robert Edward Darling and he lives at 3 Dodd House, Rennie Estate Rotherhithe New Road, London, SE16 3PJ. Not sure if it is true though because he could of used a false name and address when he registered the company.
  10. how come these websites are not being shut down by some kind of fraud-fighting police system or something?

    its ridiculous!

Perhaps the site is open so the police/fraud squad have a better chance of investigating it - thats if they are, which is doubtfull. I reckon they'll be closed by the end of the week once the complaints have started to esculate, especiallt leading up to Leeds & Reading. Good Luck.

  11. I am a reporter from the BBC looking for people who have been scammed by bogus ticket websites, in particular we want to hear from people who were hoping to go to Reading festival. If you have been the vicitim of a scam then please let us know! Either ring 01189 464200 and ask for Faye, or email faye.harland@bbc.co.uk.

  13. i must say, this thread/situation has certainly hightened my confidence about the imminent arrival of my reading tickets from SOSmasterticket

me and my girlfriend ordered a pair of weekend reading tickets from her computer using her mum's card in June/July kind of time

we cant find out if she's had anything delivered or phone calls from SOSMT until wednesday, because she's on holiday and gets back on wednesday

all my lucky friends who managed to get tickets off seetickets when they were released got them without a hitch a couple of days ago

not only that, the lovely people at SOSMT have manged to knick 800 pounds from my girlfriends mum (double what we shouldve paid by SOSMT's site); the first time we tried to buy the pair of tickets it came up with 'there has been a problem proccesing your order, please go back and try again', so (being young and gullable) we did and they've only gone ansd taken the money from both the orders

my girlfriends mum managed to get through to them and they promised a refund for the first order, which as far as i know hasnt happenned

    i am NOT hopeful :)

i guess i can still cling to the hope that it might all be ok like at T in the Park

does any one know what SOSMT are saying about reading tickets at the moment??

  14. I HAD THE SAME RUBBISH WITH THE E-MAIL AND THE REPS PHONE NUMBER. EXACTLY THE SAME AS EVERYBODY ELSE!

AND AFTER COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS AND TRAVELLING ALL THE WAY TO HYLANDS PARK ON THE FRIDAY, THROUGH THE 4 HOURS OF TRAFFIC, TO THE ACTUAL FESTIVAL GATES! I WAS FINALLY 100% SURE THAT "RICHARD BARKER" AND SOS MASTERTICKET HAD TOTALLY ROBBED ME OF MY TIME, MONEY AND ABOVE ALL MY FESTIVAL EXPERIANCE. THERE WAS NO SOS "BOOTH" HANDING OUT OUR TICKETS, OR NO REP. I WONDERED AROUND THE ENTIRE FESTIVAL PERIMETER FOR 4 HOURS TRYING TO MAKE SENSE OF THE SITUATION, LOOKING FOR THE ELLUSIVE "BOX OFFICE" AND WATCHING THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE, WITH TICKETS ALREADY IN HAND, GOING STRAIGHT IN! WHAT AN ABSOLUTE PISS TAKE. IT WAS MEANT TO BE MY FIRST FESTIVAL!

I THINK THERE SHOULD BE SOME SORT OF PARTITION OR GROUP THATS READY TO TAKE LEGAL ACTION. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE! PEOPLE WILL TAKE NOTICE OF THINGS IF ITS BACKED BY HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE RATHER THAN JUST 1!! I KNOW THERE IS THOUSANDS OUT THERE WHO HAVE BEEN ROBBED BY THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!! SO JOIN THE FORUM IF ITS JUST FOR THIS ONE PURPOSE!!!!

I AM NOT JUST GONNA SIT AROUND AFTER ALL OF THIS, AND WATCHING THE FESTIVAL ON TV, KNOWING THAT A GROUP OF BLOKES AFTER MY £180 HAS CAUSED ME TO HAVE SUCH A BAD EXPERIENCE FOR MY FIRST FESTIVAL! THEY ARE COMPLETE BASTARDS

PLEASE LEAVE YOUR COMMENTS!!! OR SHARE YOUR LATEST EXPERIENCE SINCE THE FESTIVAL. SOME THING MUST BE DONE!

JOIN THIS FORUM EVEN IF ITS JUST FOR THIS PURPOSE !

    THANK YOU.

  15. hi all, I was just wondering how you all fared with your V tickets in the end? Did you manage to get them from this guy? I have stupidly bought tickets from this site for this weekends reading festival and am starting to get very worried after hearing these stories.

    Hope everything worked out ok.

    cheers

  16. Hi all

I was just wondering if anyone has ever purchased and more importantly RECEIVED any tickets from a company called SOS Masterticket? a friend of mine purchased a ticket for next weekends V Festival from them and since we've heard nothing but bad comments of false dates for non exisiting concerts/over charging/no show on tickets. just really panicing now that this is a hoax site and she's been ripped off. they claim they specialise in sold out events however the cost of the tickets are cheaper than those on ebay. shes been ringing them to see when she would receive her ticket and was promised it would be by next wednesday (we all have ours as of yesterday from ticketmaster) and late last night got an email to say sadly they cant get the tickets out and now she has to ring a mobile number for some guy and meet him Friday for the ticket actually at V!! the company has a London landline number and an office in Spain! the email we got says July (concert is August)which they claim is a typo (says it twice!!) and according to many horror stories on the net others have had the same problems. I just think it all sounds so dodgy - how can these hundreds of people ring this one guys number n meet him the Friday morning?? they cant really can they?!! The more i read what im writing the more i think its a fix - all internet stories are from people in a similar situation to me and i cant find any that say people have/haven't ever got tickets! We've rang both the office and the mobile number and they have tried fobbing us off but now the office arent answering and the guy on the mobile became very hostile and was swearing n abusive saying speak to the office!! Anyone out there who's bought tickets n its been ok/hasnt please can you let me know ASAP? obviously she isnt prepared to drive 4 hours down there to find she has to go back home!!

    Thanks all

    Catherine xx
