  1. Glastonbury is fairly unusual (if not unique, others may know more) in that several of the stages are basically their own festival with little co-ordination.  It sounds like it has got to the position where the more popular acts need to be put on at the Pyramid or Other and to start bringing back some deliberate scheduling clashes.

  2. I think attitudes have changed in the last couple off decades and it is time to change the name and I say that as someone who admired John Peel professionally.

Then again The Who have played twice since then and Aerosmith nearly did.  If you are to draw a line (Aerosmith pun for you all there) you have to do it consistently and not book them again.

  3. I think the Stones did it to get themselves into the shop window for a younger audience.  In fact Jagger even said if you enjoyed yourself then come and see them again.  They might have made a loss on the night but they are no mugs and it has probably paid for itself several time over since.  Reading his book Springsteen and the E Street Band were seeing more empty seats at their concerts then they would like - more so in the US - so did several festivals to get some new fans in (although jetting over to play with Macca suggests he enjoyed it).

Not sure Fleetwood Mac need that, especially if they aren't planning to tour much more.

  4. When I first went in 2002 it was the first one after 2000 was almost the last ever Glastonbury and they used to have deliberate clashes to spread the crowds round (I still regret missing Grohl era QOTSA to watch the Doves!) and it sounds like they need too get back in the habit of doing it.

I last went in 2013 and during the 11 years I went going on a Wednesday went from being something the hardcore did to being the default option.  Basically nothing happened on the Wednesday evening and a few dance tents opened on the Thursday but it was all quite low key.  On the Wednesday and Thursday they need to either have a variety of things on to accommodate the crowd or do nothing and let people make their own entertainment.

Thing is fashions change.  I always think what stopped 2008 selling out was the last two festivals (2005 and 2007) being wet as opposed to Jay-Z and while that can't be helped festivals don't know what the post-Covid environment will settle down to and Glastonbury aren't immune to that.

  5. I last went in 2013 and people were saying they should put a lid on secret sets on smaller stages back then but they still seem to be doing them.  For comparison the only time I was involved in anything resembling a crush was at the side of the Pyramid Stage when people were trying to get away from Gorillaz so it sounds like it has become more common place since.

  6. Got nowhere near.  Got tickets for every year between 2002 and 2010 (with a year off in 2009) but haven't got any since.

It is luck combined with the fact it doesn't go on for hours on a Sunday morning anymore, which probably got a few of the less committed out the way.

Also this kind of policy does encourage people to call in sick, which is surely worse for the business. I can't do that now I've asked and been refused. But I can see how people would.

Not that I would encourage such behaviour but ask a friend who does the same job as you if the time off is available but not book it.  If it is available go and ask for it off.  If it isn't available call in sick!

  8. Didn't go this year but I agree the seat/blanket situation can get a bit OTT but I have carried a small backpack round with me most days at the festival and it is either on my back when moving or by my feet when standing still.

  9. It wasn't that long ago that the norm was to arrive on the Thursday and Wednesday was for the hardcore.

I did go through a spell of leaving on Sunday when there was no one else I wanted to see, although in 2007 I was so done in by the rain I went home first thing.

  10. Paradoxically, I can now see them doing it in 2016 if the tour goes on as he sounded quite complimentary and certainly didn't close the door.

I get the impression bands have becoming a lot better at seeing the bigger picture financially when doing Glastonbury and not just seeing the (relatively for them) small fee for playing it.

  11. In what way is it an advantage having 6 on the form instead of 4 ?

If anything it would be a disdvantage. It takes more time to input the details of 6 than say 2 meaning a delay in getting to final payment, as there is no 'lock' on tickets then the faster you get to payment the better chance you have of securing tickets.

On top of that there is a greater chance of error - someone giving you the wrong reg number etc.

If it is to do with more people trying then that still would be the same regardless of how many you can put on one form.

Personally I think you should be able to book up to say 20 on one form. Only getting tickets for half your group is pretty shitty. (but obviously better than getting none if your one of the lucky ones).

Ok then, have no upper limit once 80% of tickets are sold.

Then the more details you enter, the more the clock ticks and the more chance of it being sold out and no one gets to go.

    Feeling lucky? :-)

  12. Never going to happen for a multitude of reasons. Seems a bit churlish to mention this on the back of a 25 minute sell out but it was only 2008 that it didn't sell out.

I am always a bit sceptical of suggestions millions of people go for tickets. Without any statistical evidence to back this theory, I reckon you have about a 50% chance of getting a ticket which puts the amount of people wanting them at 250,000.

  13. I didn't get tickets having successfully got tickets every year since 2002 (although sat out 2009 and 2014).

As there were no backdoors this year, assuming you were organised enough to be on-line at 0900 and had a connection and a browser you had as much chance as anyone else. It is luck.

Saying that, the whole setup sort of favours large groups going. Wouldn't surprise me if there was a maximum of 4 tickets next year.

  14. I seem to remember ME once commissioned a study into weather through the Summer and there was no dryer weekend to move it to.

I think the drainage has been improved in the last 10 years or so as previously any rain meant it was muddy for the rest of the weekend but it seems able to absorb a bit now (I wasn't there this year though).

  15. When he did a Q&A at The Space in Brighton a couple of months ago he said that when he sang Happy Birthday with Stevie Wonder, he didn't have a monitor so started singing in the wrong key.

Stevie took one look at his band and the instantly changed key to accommodate him!

  16. My friend bumped into a guy who was the year below me in school who was selling at the festival, he had 2 lots of drugs on him, one for scousers and one for everyone else. The pills for scousers were fine, the pills for everyone else were duds. It really doesn't help the stereotype when you've got people doing things like that :(

I know it's not a tent theft but it's still pretty much thievery right?
