  1. I can actually manage without the showers for a few days, but Im a bit worried about my friend who is a festival virgin, and who yesterday asked me completely seriously: 'Where can I plug my hair straighteners in the tent?!!' ;)

Im currently hiding the weather forecast from her.

  2. Thanks for the info, think you may have sold it to me ;)

I especially like the idea of parking next to the tent...oh the bliss after trekking miles loaded with kit at Glasto ! And we can bring so much more drink as well

  3. We left Liverpool at 11am and arrived on site (W29) at about 8pm.

Shaved several hours off the A39 queue thanks to a local woman who was handing out directions for an alternative route. I was just amazed at how few other people chose to stay in the queue instead of trying the alternative!

  4. Im trying to make my mind up between ths and the Green Man festival.

Can you give me a bit of an idea of what Solfest is like, in terms of atmosphere, general age of festival goers etc. We will be in group of mixed ages between 15 and 45 so will it appeal to us all?

Is there anything to do at night once the main stages close? And is it an arena based festival?

    Thanks in advance

  5. The local woman alongside the a39 giving out handwritten directions for a short cut - she probably saved me about 3 hours of queuing.

Bloke in the NERD crowd who looked down at my head and my scalp was a bit pink, then promptly gave me his hat to wear :D

  6. She was quite openly miming during the set and her ramblings inbetween songs were completely self indulgent and boring.

On a smaller stage as a piece of quirky cabaret she would have been ok, but she didnt deserve her place on the Other Stage.

Gutted Id agreed to watch her with my daughter instead of the Specials :D

  7. We took a shopping trolley with us last year and loaded with as much as possible - a beer keg, food, clothes, couple of camping chairs, even the tent got loaded on it at one point. We kept to the metal pathways with it and it was absolutely fine - survived plenty of battering.

'Dolly' the trolley came out with us on the Sunday afternoon loaded with beers and we even have a pic of her enjoying Neil Diamond :(

  8. Yup...I too had this conversation the other day when my 18 year old daughter poured scorn on the idea that she might want a comfy self inflating mattress like her old mum. I remember my first festival when I was her age when it was just a sleeping bag, tent and a change of clothes.

Now its like a miltary operation with the amount of planning and packing I require to keep myself going for the five days!

Its still worth it tho!

  9. And to the group I say this - we must remain vigilent! Always keep an eye on your friends - if you see any of them being talked to by old women, whether from Hartlepool or not, make sure they are ok and in control of the situation. If we stick together we can keep all our boys safe from the sexual predators that roam our festivals.

Look after yourselves - and each other.

  10. Hey...I split with my lovely lovely man over 5 years ago and dealing with going to G both in 07 and 08 and him not being there was bloody difficult! Tis and was strange being with lots of friends and so on but not able to be happy at all...

BUT this year...will stop being a moping minny and get myself out there!!! Yes its horrible to lose your partner in crime especially if you did things like The G together and every place you go reminds you of those lovely days...hell I even got married for the day in 03 and walking past Soulmates makes me all sad...but you have to get over it eventually...

good luck and I hope you may venture along to the meets. We wont bite and it may be a good chance for a wibble with some of the others in the same position. That may help get you over things too!

BUT no man hating please! Its a fun night! But if there are also tears etc...then we will be there to support you.

  11. My brother left last year straight after the Verve as he had to be in work in Leeds at 9am on Monday morning.

I think he got distracted somewhere along the way to exit as he didnt arrive in work until about midday on the Monday...even worse he was still in full Glasto unwashed kit ;) needless to say his employers were not impressed and he got an official warning.

I left my campsite at about 10am on the Monday morning, hoping to get back to Liverpool in time for my friend to catch a 9pm flight back to Ireland. We ended up taking an extra journey to the car parks to help out a sick friend, then got separated and lost the car :P then got caught in traffic. My friend missed her flight and had to pay another £70 to return the next morning, and take an extra day off work.

My advice...leave at least three hours before you think you will need to, to take account of all eventualities...Glasto time runs on a slower timesphere to the real world/
