  1. I still haven't had an email? I know it makes no difference as I've heard via other means, but if I hadn't I'd happily have turned up at 12ish, having left our campsite and having no where to go with the caravan in tow? Wonder how many other people will be in the same position?

    Hi all!

My Husband and I are heading to Glastonbury this year with our little one who will be 15 months old by then. We have been many times before, and are really looking forward to taking our Son with us this year.

I have been looking at advice as to what to take with us etc, and am thinking of buying a cheap second hand 3 wheeler all terrain buggy.  Does anybody who has taken a baby before have advice as to which buggies are best in dealing with the likely muddy ground?

    Many thanks!

We have done two Glasto's with our little un now, one at 8 months and then last year at 20 months (also she came along on the inside in 2013!)  Both years I have carried her in a sling and never had an issue.  I also take walking poles so that I don't have to worry about loosing footing if/when the mud appears.

She'll be near three this year and I'll be taking the sling again as she will not sit in a buggy when there is stuff going on!!

We do have one of the garden trolley type pull alongs (which we used for beer pre-baby) so that may come in future years, but for the moment she is still happy to be carried so that is what we are planning :)

Have a great time, maybe see you in the Kidz Fields :)

  3. True that Bella is more family orientated, mainly because it's still a festival. All the extra stuff hasn't been stripped back yet so it makes it a nice place to go for families, there's lots to do and see outside of standing in front of a stage.

There was an increase in teenagers after Rockness went down but not a huge amount.

There is now the Groove dance festival in August on the old Rockness site. I'm hoping it will do well and maybe take up where Rockness left off. There are many that rue the day when Rockness left its dance roots and started aiming for bigger headliners. Mind you, Daft Punk was helluva coup.

Yeah I remember the Daft Punk year, wasn't there but one of my friend's hubby was a policing that year and said it was nuts!!

I really hope that Bella keeps it roots, it's a lovely wee festival and I would hate to see it go the way of T :(  There are so few festivals up this neck of the woods, so it would be a shame if it did :(

Not heard of the Groove festival, but not really being that big a dance fan, its not something I would have been looking for - good luck to it though :)

  4. Belladrum sells out almost instantly without a single artist being named. Mind you they've started adding VIP extras and the like now so it'll be going down the same cash cow path to the slaughter house if they carry on down that route.

Belladrum is a more family oriented festival, or at least it used to be its been a few years since I last went, so that is part of the reason that it is popular :)  Also as it is, now that Rockness is gone, one of only two festivals this far north in Scotland - there is a bigger market for it......only my opinion of course ;)

I think as long as Bella keep up being family friendly they will be fine :)  As festival goers get a bit older and start to have families, many want to take their children to a festival and Bella is (or was) perfect for families.  T in the Park most certainly isn't :(

  5. Can't recommend a hire company, as we have used the same company the last two times and they are booked up for 2016 already - but I would try to book something provisionally sooner rather than later - you wouldn't believe how many companies sell out of hires a year in advance!!

With regard to the the distance from the site, I can only comment on East Camper field as this is where we have camped, but it also depends on the field within the area....for example we were in E20 this year, E 22 last year - both of which are a 5 mins walk from Ped Gate C which takes you straight into the Theatre and Circle field :)

Facilities in the fields include portaloos, which in my experience were kept really clean this year.  There are queues for these at peak times but on the whole they are fine :)

There are also sinks and water taps - again queues for these at peak times but never waited longer than ten minutes this year for these or the loo!

They also have waste water tanks in some of the fields, in case you hire a van with a loo.

With regard to food etc, there were a slush stand, a burger van, a coffee and cake van and a bakers van at the top of the hill this year - we cooked or ate in the festival mainly so not sure how all of them were price wise etc but there were queues in the morning and later on at night (after the headliners) as you would expect.

    Hope this helps :)

    Cheers

    NRP

  6. We stayed in one a few years back and it was great.  You have to pay for it as soon as the balance day comes as Smash says - they go fast.

They are basic - not furnished etc, not that we expected them to be but there were a few people on the site that did and they were a bit disappointed (not sure where they got that idea from as it is stated clearly on the website etc?!)

Showers are good although I did feel like I was cheating a wee bit when I had one ;)

It's nice not to have to lug your tent or rush for a pitch and its nice to still be within the festival too :)

We would do it again, but probably not until our wee girl is a bit older (by then it'll probably be too expensive for us as it was a bit of a stretch when we didi it in 2011 and there were 6 of us!)

They are good in the rain too, but cold at night so if you do go for one I would take a couple of extra blankets to keep you cosy :)

  7. Last year, my hubs managed to drop his ticket, pass out and drivers licence on the way out to the camper van on the Saturday and didn't realise until we were going back in to the festival on the Sunday morning :(

Much panic later, we were directed to the festival office at the top of the hill of death to join the queue of folk who had done similar!!

Two guys in the office on the phone to see I presume, ask you a few questions and then issue you with a bit of paper and you go back to the Pedestrian gate and get a new wristband.

Not something I would recommend but we were very glad that they clearly have something in place to deal with situations like that!

    :)

  8. I have stopped looking at Facebook etc as the statements on there about how Flo is a disgrace and the festival will be shit as a result were beginning to seriously grate :(

I wish people would realise that there are any number of people who would love to have their ticket - regardless of Florence and her Machine!

I am a massive Foos fan and of course I'm gutted they are not going to be able to play, but I still count my lucky stars that we got tickets and are now in a position to choose from heaps of other great bands on the Friday.

It's a privilege to be able to go to something as special as Glastonbury.

  9. I suffer quite badly with Hay fever and weirdly I never get it at Glasto!?  I also didn't get it while pregnant, which was great!  That was 2013 :)

I think you would need to check on antihistamine though as I am sure they are contraindicated in pregnancy, I checked when I first fell pregnant then subsequently it wasn't an issue :)

Hope you all (and the bump) have an amazing festival :)

  10. I could be wrong but since you weren't the person who signed for them, and they were addressed to you, then technically see tickets are still responsible for them? There was a thread in the chat forum that someone's tickets were lost by Royal Mail and I am sure I heard that there? Have a look on that thread and see what was said exactly?

    Hope they turn up :)

    Edit to include link :)

  11. I wonder why they have decided against the family/quiet camper fields this year? Seems a bit strange to me given the amount of families who use campers instead of camping?

No point to this really, just musing!! :)

  12. Now back from the post office, so I can finally post the video I've been looking forward to posting for the last three weeks:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjHf6RXSDBA

EDIT: Yep, I'll be at the eFests meet on the Wednesday night - looking forward to it!

:) Brilliant news and brilliant video! Having a pretty s**t day today and that just made me grin ear to ear! :)

  13. Out of interest why?

    Yes, please advise why?

    Is this your normal haunt?

I suspect they are kidding? We have always camped there, although now take a van due to having a toddler, and have always had a great spot at the top of the hill - which is great in the rain! It may not have the all night party vibe of somewhere like Pennards, but we've always had great neighbours and the less party vibe has suited us as we both like to get some sort of sleep during the festival - must be getting old!!

  14. When we've camped in Hitchin, every year before taking the van, we have been luck enough to get in relatively quick and camp right up the top of the hill next to the fence - which is great for hanging the solar shower from :)

  15. The R&R tent is at the bottom of the family camping field, we're not currently marked on the map. If you come out of the Kidz field by the Acoustic stage, turn left and we're just up there on the right, its a marquee on it's own and normally one of us is hanging around outside!

We're open on Wed, Thurs and also Monday morning and on Fri, Sat & Sun from 7pm to 9am basically when the Kidz field is closed. We have books, toys, feeding & changing facilities, hot water, microwave etc and tea / coffee for adults!

You guys were a lifesaver for us last year, so thank you :)

What time are you planning to open on Wednesday - is it 7pm?

Thanks again and looking forward to seeing you all in a few weeks :)
