  1. So what's suddenly changed?

All UK airports can reopen from 2200 BST on Tuesday, the Transport Secretary Lord Adonis has said.

Lord Adonis made the statement after consultation with the Civil Aviation Authority and a reassessment of the risk to aircraft from volcanic ash.

Some restrictions will remain in place, but they will be much smaller than those enforced under the current ban.

Lord Adonis said after the ban was lifted it would be up to airlines to bring flight schedules back on track.

Dame Deirdre Hutton of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said there had been detailed consultation with experts to reassess the tolerance of planes to the ash cloud.

The CAA said it was a "situation without precedent" and that decisions had been made based on "thorough gathering of data and analysis".

"The major barrier to resuming flight has been understanding tolerance levels of aircraft to ash," the CAA said.

"Manufacturers have now agreed increased tolerance levels in low ash density areas."

  2. if that goes off 'properly' - think the last one didn't manage to break the glacier or something - that'll be absolutely immense if it happens, make this one seem like a baby. that's due a proper eruption as well, isn't it almost 100 years since it had a proper eruption i.e. broke the surface?
  3. Having just listened to the icelandic news, there have now been 'rumblings' near katla... they're not sure yet exactly what it is, but if that blows then what's happening now will just be the hors d'oeuvres..!

  4. '89 - last time I can recall pulling up in a van onto the main site and pitching a tent right next to it!

Really edgy (especially the last night), but also the last before the 'troubles'...

2000 - as has been said - Bowie!..

  5. Some f**king c**ting w*nkers in this world. I have been clearing the paths for a couple of old folk, and last night I walked down to our nearest Grit Bin, about 2 miles round trip. When I got there some guy was loading all the grit in the back of his car and there was none left. I called him a selfish c**t blah blah blah, but he said he needed it for his shop area, just down the road.

This f**king morning just passed the shop halfway down the road and this said w*nker is selling the rock salt at £5.50 (less than a small carrier full). I went spare, and I have rang the council to complain. Not alot they can do but I also rang the community bobby

Nice to see community alive and well in this weather :P

  6. same here further along the south coast...

text at 6.30 am to say school is closed, but now raining - the inch or so we have will be gone by the time it should have opened... :P

  8. Good points:

pretty much what has been said already..

(and also our wet weather clothing finally got a thorough testing and passed with flying colours.. )

and yes the security was very low key and welcome as usual - I'm a firm believer that you get 'good behaviour' at a festival when people essentially 'self-police' !

    bad points:

somehow missing meeting up with people again..

    and

    exiting the car park...

    exiting the car park...

    exiting the car park...

    :D

  9. Given the weather a fantastic effort by the organisers..

Echo the comments about the loos - the reorganisation of the access allowing the 'poo trucks' to keep going desite the mud (and even cleaning on monday morning near us!) worked well..

Only criticism was the car park on the way out (no real organisation or info), as despite the efforts of the tractors, it was all a bit 'hit and miss' getting out - still, it extended our festival by several hours (just waited until it was clearer and blasted through the mud!)

Back again next year?...you bet!

  10. Two years ago during their set, they mentioned a protest camp at titnore woods near worthing..

Could you tell him (if he doesn't already know) that by the time of the festival it should have been there over 2 years - and as well as keeping tesco's and developers at bay so far, they have become a growing alternative community...

So could you ask if they'll give it a mention again....

    cheers
