12 cans of koppaberg mixed fruit or strawberry and lime for £10 in Morrisons. Also have 1ltr Smirnoff for £15.

I'm doing a 30 day plank and squat challenge to try and prep for all the walking and standing about. Not sure whether it'll help but at least it feels like I'm doing something to try and make it easier.

If you really don't want to take the little one in with you I would use the money on something else. Personally I couldn't justify that kind of cash for one day. The kids area at Glastonbury is amazing though, including an nct tent,so I would recommend a bit of research to see if it changes your mind. There'll be a few historic threads on here about taking kids if you search for them. An immobile baby would be easier than one that's on the move in my opinion.

Gate D in 2011 was a special mess up - there was a hole in a hedge that folk were using to queue jump so there were effectively two queues feeding into one with folk who arrived far later getting in ahead of those who'd been waiting since before gate opening
painfully remembered as we were in that queue for Quite Some Time barely moving. ended up shifting to A which was having muddy slope problems of it's own and even with the walk up to there then their queue then back down still got in ahead of those who stayed at Gate D. lots of complaints, apparently been dealt with and no such drama since
Exactly this, but we stayed in the queue for gate D which was just miserable. Much better organised now with the area people were cutting through being fenced off.

Bought a couple of these last year and it was up there with wet wipes as an absolute must have item in the day bag.
When you are in the toilets you hook your bag and hang it high :-) Works in long drops, saw dust toilets and portaloos :-)
Thanks for that, just ordered some and can give one to everyone in our group.

We went in a van last year. As others have said, they seem to park them all together. We were all at the bottom of the slope by the main track. I wondered if that's because vans could be more likely to get suck up a hill on wet grass. Doubt it was a security thing.

We take one if those large rectangular 5 litre plastic water bottles. Neck wide enough for a man and I use a sheepee. Provably a bit big for one person though. Big fabric conditioner bottle works well too.

3/4 length Dunlop unisex wellies do the job for me, teamed with some memory foam insoles from the pound shop. They're less than £20 and I think quite comfy.

My first year was 2007 and I'm still going. I do remember feeling quite miserable at one point, stood in what seemed like never ending rain and the sea of mud that was at the other stage. It didn't put me off but I can see why it did others. Agree this probably was the main reason behind slow sales in 2008.

I use Batiste and it's great, even use it at home inbetween washes. It can make your hair a bit matted and clumpy after a few days, but still much better than leaving it to go greasy and limp. Just be careful how much you put on and try to use as little as possible. Try it out before you go.

Not sure if this counts as a "camping essential", but I bought 18 Travel Johns for £15.28 including delivery on Amazon a couple of days ago, they were a warehouse special because the packaging is damaged. I've just checked and there are still 2 more packs available at this price, but even at full price they are only £16.78. Should keep me going for the next 2 or 3 festivals!
Good spot, looks like a good deal. Never tried them although have been meaning to give them a go.

Thanks Kaosmark2, you've been very helpful. Ferry now booked - 1530 from Portsmouth on Thurs and 0800 from Fishbourne on Mon. £137 for refundable tickets.
Can't wait, although we have Glastonbury and Camp Bestival to look forward to first!

Thanks for your help and yeah I did mean Lymington sorry, which I'll now avoid. Looks like Portsmouth it'll be, which is £45 cheaper than Southampton.
Not worried about having to go to bed at a reasonable time on Sunday. Need to make sure we're back home on time to pick the little one up from nursery on Monday and the other option was to leave on Sun night.
Not sure what to do about the Thursday now though as thought getting the ferry at 5 would avoid the worst queues. How long does it normally take to get from the ferry port to site and is that pretty constant between 10.30am to 9pm?
We may be able to make it a bit earlier, but only by a couple of hours. I know the campsites are going to fill up quick but surely there's still spaces about late Thursday in the outer campsites?

Hi
Trying to be organised and book the ferry (with car) now and hopefully get the best price. We're coming from Gloucester, just up from Bristol. Southampton is the closest port, but it doesn't look like it would be much extra hassle to get to either Portsmouth or Yarmouth. Also Southampton is the most expensive.
The Wightlink from Portsmouth or Yarmouth is the cheapest at the moment, working out at £105-125 return. To beat any queues was thinking about crossing at about 5pm on the Thurs and 7am back on the Monday.
It's our first time at Bestival and any thoughts/suggestions on the ports/times/price would be appreciated. I don't want to book something only to regret it in a couple of months time.
Many thanks

We fully intended to take our little boy (who will be 3 next year). However we've decided to be selfish and keep Glastonbury to ourselves until he's a bit older. I have no doubt that he would enjoy himself if he went though, we walked around the kids field last year and it was amazing.
We took him to Camp Bestival this year and it was very hard work with a toddler, but we loved it and have already got tickets to go back next year.
I don't think there's any question about whether Glasonbury is suitable for children, it's more about whether you are prepared to sacrifice the things that you would normally want to do while your there.

The sack truck with pneumatic tires from B&Q work perfectly. Have had mine for a few years now. It's done at least 6 festivals and has lots of life in it. For about £25 I think they're a must have.

What can only be discribed as a 'bum bag'. I've used one for the last few years and can fit everything I need in it (poncho/tissues/hand gel/camera/phone/small plastic bottles of water or wine etc). Had to by a new one as the zip had gone. Personally I much prefer this to a back pack.
Apparently this phone has a very good battery life and at only £14.95 (that's with £10 top up included), it's a bargain.
Would also recommend the inflatable pillows from poundland.

They've posted some pics on facebook and the ground looks good. I don't live too far away and everything is pretty much dry now we've had a bit of dry weather - shouldn't be any need for wellies. A good thing too as not sure I could deal with more mud after Glastonbury.
