  1. Thanks for your support guys and gals.

We're very proud of our safety record with not a single incident of trouble over many years. Our security team deserve much of the credit for that.

And to show there's no hard feelings with Zydaco... I note that on the Guilfest Forum he rightly praises Kid Creole & The Coconuts as one of the best live acts around.

He's right! And we've just added Kid Creole to the Wickham line-up so if you miss the band when stewarding at Guilfest Zydaco I'll be happy to offer you a guest ticket to see them at Wickham instead.

  2. We have completely different people running the bar this year which, itself, is supplied by Wadworths. There will be at least 3 real ales on at all times including 6X and Bishop's Tipple. I too hope the beer is better because after suffering six months of NIMBY nonsense I need a decent pint! ;)

  4. Looking at the news today in the local press -I would say that this festival is in grave danger of being cancelled. A further "review " is to take place at the beginning of July.

What the hell is going on ?

Medina-you are in the know. Please can you update us ?

  5. Hi there,

Basicly I was going to see Michael Jackson on July 14th which as people probably know was moved to March. This leaves a big gap in July for me to try something new and as I've always wanted to see Brian Wilson Guilfest seems like a good choice.

My question is simple, if I brought a day ticket am I alowed to camp overnight as the last train to where I live (and bus for that matter) leaves at 9 0 clock. Driving is also out of the question (I only passed a year ago, and as I'm at uni I rarely get to drive, esspecialy long distances and so the 4 hour journey would be a bit daunting).

    Any help would be appreciated

    ;

  6. I am toying with the idea of going this year for the first time - decided to give Glasto a miss this year & instead of cornbury festival try this one.

Anyone been with a campervan before? I have a 1971 vw.

Bit confused on the tickets: campervans ticket price is 80+ quid but do I get tickets with or without camping as you pay for the campervan not tenting???? would appreciate some guidance.

    thanks Paul :P

  7. Anyone over 30 going to Reading? - Do you still camp or do you fork out for a hotel?

i just can't justify paying £300 for a hotel for the weekend plus a weekend ticket, that's just ridiculous.

Do you camp in "quieter" white? is it worth the walk to the arena? & is it really as quiet as it's supposed to be?

i'm not an old fart, but i can't go 4 nights without sleep anymore, those days are gone.

i don't care about the grime or smelly toilets, that doesn't bother me in the slightest - it's the scary flying gas canisters & mental people on whatever they get their grubby hands on.

  8. I have never seen weed being sold there, but no doubt there's someone somewhere who will sell a mug some parsley for some stupid price.

There's far too many old bill around to make dealing at a town centre fest like Guilfest 'safe' for any dealer.

  9. Blimey! Just came across this thread and couldn't believe all the negativity.

It's tempting to suggest that if you don't like Guilfest you can always come to my own little Stokes Bay Festival instead... but such an unashamed plug will rightly annoy Neil so let me just say...

I've been to almost every day of every Guilfest since the very first one and have always enjoyed it. I know Tony Scott and I know how damn hard he works all year round to put on a good festival without huge commercial sponsorship. I know it's cost him personally a considerable sum of money plus all the hassle of dealing with an increasingly difficult licensing authority and all the other problems that affect all of us who run festivals.

Tony must be tempted, when he reads threads like this, to just say "sod it" and stop organising events for others to moan about. He could enjoy a more relaxed and financially secure life if he stuck to mowing the lawn. Instead he keeps going and in my honest opinion he deserves great praise for doing so.

Without the likes of Tony Scott there would be no festivals for any of the posters on this site to enjoy or slag off.

So... if you don't like the line-up, the toilets, the camping or anything else, don't winge, just don't go! You've plenty of choice elsewhere. But don't slag off a guy who has devoted a large part of his life and his bank balance to putting on a festival for people like you and I.

Given the choice of Guilfest or the over-commercialised money-making machines like the V Festivals, Reading and the Isle of Wight I'll plump for Guilfest every time.

I may not like all the artists this year, I may avoid the toilets, I may drive home every night instead of camping, but I know I'll still have a damn good time at a festival that's a lot safer, friendlier and musically diverse than most others, a festival that won't charge me just to park my car, a festival that won't stop me taking a bottle of water or even something stronger into the arena, a festival that won't have gorillas body-searching me on the gate, a festival that will offer me around six stages of live music plus a comedy tent and loads of other attractions along with a wide choice of food and decent beer at reasonable festival prices.

There's a lot worse than Guilfest. Vent your spleen elsewhere! :P
