  1. There's an Albert Hein supermarket in the Schiphol Airport terminal ( actually 3 of them, but one larger one in the centre near the train departures ).  Maybe not the cheapest.  There's also a shopping area to the east of Lelystad Centrum just across the bus terminal.  There are various supermarkets there ( Albert Hein, Jumbo ) that will be open until at least 9pm if you don't mind a few hundred meters detour.

  2. Depends how much you drink ;-)

Everything at Lowlands is bought with 'muntjes' - plastic coin tokens.  Last year, muntjes cost €2,60 and for that you can buy 1 small beer ( 200ml? ).  1.5 muntjes for a large beer ( 400ml? ).  On the camping terrain, you can also buy 6 cans of beer for 5 muntjes - bargain!

Showers cost 1 muntje.  Food varies depending on what you want.

You can bring 8 litres of liquids ( beer, water, juice, vodka etc ) onto the campsite with you.  Probably worth stopping at a local Dutch supermarket for some basic food/drink supplies.

  3. There are direct Intercity trains from Schiphol Airport to Lelystad every 20 minutes.  45 minute journey.  Normally €11,70 each way, but you can buy a weekend return for €19 before August 13th from the link above.  Then the free bus to the festival - just follow the crowds.

Everyone speaks english.  Just say hi and introduce yourself.  And buy me a beer ;-)

If rain is predicted, be a bit selective about where you place your tent.  The camping area is surrounded by ditches, so never turns into a mudfest, but there are a few low spots.  Also, collect a few more of the free bin bags on the way in - handy for an extra tent covering or storing your dry stuff in your tent.

  4. Can't guarantee what they have this year, but previous years they've sold small tents, party tents + all sorts of other camping and non-camping gear.  Probably not as cheap as bringing your own, but prices haven't been too bad.  The camping store has been run by the HEMA ( high street store in every Dutch town )

Anyone no how strict they are with this 8 litre alchol limit into the campsite?

If it's visibly more than 8 litres, you'll probably get questioned.  Security have their rules to follow.  Last couple of years I've seen people stopped whilst taking in too much, but they've then passed it on to some random person in the queue behind them.  Who then handed it back once past security.  You also see people going back and forth to their cars multiple times so they only bring in 8 litres at a time.

So, probably worth making friends in the queue if you have more than the limit.  Lowlanders are very friendly people.

  6. I'm getting too old for sleeping in tents, so we're taking the camper this year.  Previous years, we've taken the train and shuttle bus.

Going via Lelystad should be quicker.  Take an Intercity from Amsterdam Central ( 40 mins ) and then follow the rest of the people with camping gear to the free shuttle bus ( 30 mins ).  Gates open at 14:00, but there'll probably be 10,000 people waiting at that time and it'll take a few hours to get inside.  Nice place to meet new people though ;-)

  7. Camping 2 or 3 are closest to the festival terrain entrance and the Lowlands Cafe, which stays open until the sun comes up.  The main difference is between camping 1-4 which are close to the festival terrain, and 5-7 which are back across a road bridge and thus generally quieter.  Camping 1-4 also fill up quicker, but you can usually squeeze in a small tent even on the Friday morning.

  8. I'm expecting a few of those will indeed still be released, but they won't announce it until the last minute.

Following @Rapid_Razor_Bob on Twitter is your best bet. On a hourly basis if you really want to make sure, although last year the two extra ticket announcements were both around 11am CEST if I recall correctly.

  9. Last year they had a section in english that listed the places you could get tickets from abroad. If I remember correctly it was lastminute.com

I'm sure if you are patient they will realease all the ticket details next weekend when they go on sale.

  10. Tickets for 2009 went on sale at the start of February with the first 10,000 tickets going for a €10 reduction of the normal €150. It sold out towards the end of April although they released 500 tickets in July, again at the start of August, and a final 500 just a day or so before the festival ( they claim that these were cancelled tickets from black market sellers, but I presume they're also trying to keep the resale prices down ).

So, I'd be looking for 2010 tickets to go on sale in Jan/Feb next year, but you should have a couple of months to get 'em.
