Has anyone here, been working down on the site?...I just wondered what the conditions under foot are like (..or more to the point "under-wheel"! ).
..But PLEASE, no more weather update links..
-
Yeah,I suppose with both the Bimble Inn AND Burrows cider bus...warm tinnies will come a VERY distant third..!
-
Going slightly off topic..Are you allowed to take alcohol into the performance areas?
(..sorry,probably bit of a daft question but it's our first time at Larmer Tree.. )

Hi xray'..
I would go for Bearded Theory in Derbyshire,as an early one(May)..t'was really small this year, about 700-800 folk I believe but expanding to a "heady" 1500odd next year.. (..Check their website,as tickets are on sale in October.. )
Also Beautiful Days down in Devon is brilliant..(..bit of a trek for you..but we travel down from Shrewsbury and it only takes about 3hrs or so..)

I thought I'd ask this in here instead of starting a new thread so, I'm thinking of going to Bearded Theory next year (funds are low and just Glastonbury is not enough!). I realise it was the first year this year and a few efesters went so can you guys give me a broad overview of what sort of festival it is? Cost of things on site, camping distances from car, did you have an efests camp because I would be attending on my own, atmosphere, can you take your own booze into campsites etc.
I thank you in advance!

Been to BOTH EOTR's AND 12 Larmer Trees so, I can confidently say that you'll be OK!
Downside is, the Campervan Field is as far as you can get from the action - first field on Right as you come in off the main road, though not like Glastonbury's Hill of Death, it IS uphill slightly to the Festival!
The field is flat as a pancake though - can get chilly - grass is kinda long and wet for the late-night tudge back from the Festival. Toilets up top end, no showers, deffo no hook ups! Trees down bottom end - I'll be under one of them cos I'm in on Thursday as I'm SPECIAL, so there!
Conclusion: could be closer, but you'll be OK!

Hi all
Having never been to Larmer Tree Gardens before..we were just wondering what the general "terrain" was like in the campervan field?..and how does it usually hold up if the weather turns against us?..
(..is it likely to be yet another "axel-deep-in-mud" event?!?. )
Thanks ..

Erm..okay,fair enough..it just seems that for a "moderator" some of of your respones have appeared far from moderate..(..you've even managed to include the words "Bullshit" & "Shit" in your reply! and my post included smileys and winks!!)
Don't get me wrong,I'm not agreeing with all of the criticisms that have been levelled at the festival in earlier posts..as I pointed out in my post,we had a great time .. but to have a pop at folk for leaving early, for what ever reason they saw fit (..and then at one point to seemingly blame their young kid),seems a little bizarre for a "moderator" that's all(..Member No:1 or otherwise)..
Anyway, that'll do for me on this topic..

I've just been scanning through this thread...
And can I just ask..in a totally unconfrontational way..
...Why is it, that when ever anyone comments on the festival in way, other than with glowing praise...mr/ms eFests jumps straight in and all but dismissess their views/experiences?
(..and please mr/ms eFests, don't comeback by quoting the "..piles of s**t" were really "puddles of p**s " argument again..you've done that one to death! )
Surely a msg board mod should be more "neutral"?...
Anyway,we really enjoyed this year ,our 4th (..though I am a Levs, 3DM and Dreadzone fan )...
*I do think that there were more youngsters, that were just trawling around in groups this year*
..a lot of whom were more p**d than me(£3.50 a pint!..was it REALLY that much last year? )...at times it seemed more like saturday in a Shopping Mall.. ..Anyhow,just an observation..
Also,I'm still not quite sure why the campervan pitches are so expensive(£80 & booking fee)..anyone any ideas?
*I've just realised that this comment makes me sound like a Daily Mail reader!..which I can assure you I'm not!!

Seen them about 6 or 7 times over the past years at various Festivals. Although I thought they were great way back - I now find them a wee bit 'karaoke' - in fact, their version of Govinda (although it should be the better, for obvious reasons) is a 'damp squib' when you compare it to Kula Shaker's version - thank god they're back together, Saturday at this year's Guilfest.....
Sorry, but you DID ask!

Thanks for that

Looks as if we can't do this now,as the oh has just checked with her work and there are to many folk off that week
If it was just a couple of days we needed(fri/mon),I would say "throw a sicky"..but as we wanted to take the week and make a"Highland Adventure" it looks like it's out!
Have a great time all

Here's another ticket question(..this time from a"first timer")..
We bought/ordered tickets online at the tail end of last year and although received a confirmation email, which contained a "dummy" pdf ticket attachment(saying "It works!"),we were wondering if tickets were sent electronicaly or whether tickets are posted out?
Thanks all
(I have tried emailing EOTR but as of yet I've had no reply)

..Thanks for that..!

Hi all..This looks really good!..spoke with Tim from 3DM and he really rates it!..so we're going to try and tag this onto the end of our festy season...
Could anyone tell us if the campsite can cater for campervans?...or do you think we may've left it a bit late?...
Cheers

..Have you tried posting on the Beautiful Days site?...
Goodluck anyway..
Edit: OOPs!..sorry mate..just looked..and you have..

Hear hear - when traveling with 4 kids in tow and a wife that likes to be comfortable you need more than a back pack. The system worked perfectly and was a key part of why we have booked for next year! Well Done

..yeah,it's the way we've been for the last 3 years...there are a couple of quite sharp(..and flat!)bends to watch out for in the "rural" sections ..but visablity is pretty good through them..so shouldn't be a problem for a "seasoned Motorhomer"!...
It is a pleasant route to approach from...
As you approach the north of the town, you'll see the racecourse is on your left..Just peel in, first exit off the island...

^^WHS^^
(..Junction 9...Bishops Cleeve is the simplest way..you don't touch the town at all)
-
Thanks for that!
-
..Thanks for the map!.
One quick question... where abouts is the access into the campervan field?..
...will we have to do a half circuit, anti-clockwise ,in order to gain access to it? (..as it appears we may do,judging by the arrows.. )
..just thinking about the ground conditions under foot that's all!

Oh..and wasn't Bearded Theory, just a superb weekend!!!....lets hope it's a taste of things to come, for the rest of the summer

I know it's an old thread but anyway...
Pesonally I think the main minus points of the site as a whole, have been caused by the groundworks that have been carried out over the years by the racecourse.(Obviously these are beneficial changes for the racecourse tho').
The tarmac pathway, that now runs up to the Big Top,never used to extend that far..I recall that it "appeared" before our second year, when it then ran through the Big Top!(..the marque has now seemingly been pushed back to clear it?!).
Also the amount of rubble and hardstanding has increased over the years and this does detract from the "feel" of the top end of the site.
Also,a little screening in order to hide some of the skips and containers up by the Big Top wouldn't go a miss either...
