Congrats all who succeeded! Really happy for people. My 17th in a row is in jeopardy as we crashed and Burned 0/25…. However I already had alternative plans so reasonably optimistic I’ll be there.

My 20 year run came to an end this year. It was tough not going and seeing it was sunny! Luckily managed to get them for next year 🙂

  2. This information may be useful for future reference:

We had two home laptops set up in our flat both with six different browsers refreshing about once a second.  My flatmate's laptop got through after five minutes with Opera (I think it has an inbuilt VPN).  My laptop didn't move from the holding page on any of the six browsers being refreshed once a second for 55 minutes until at the very last Firefox got through (no VPN).  Tickets were purchased at 9:57am, a minute before the sell out announcement.

It was feeling like there was no chance I was getting through from the holding page and then it happened after 55 minutes and what must have been 20,000+ previous refreshes across all the browsers.

I also had a work laptop with three browsers refreshing every second and four browsers refreshing every 20 seconds over phones and tablets also on the case too and none of them got through.

I think this suggests that it's unlikely you can saturate requests from using multiple laptops / browsers even refreshing them all more or less at once (although no individual browser would have refreshed more often than once a second) across two different laptops on the same IP address.

It also suggests that you should keep persevering until the bitter end as it looked like there was no hope until all of a sudden there was.

  3. Just got home and tested positive for the first time. Started to feel a bit rough at Turnstile (John Peel stage after Diana Ross on the Sunday). Felt too ill to drive home in the crowds on Monday so slept another night in my campervan and drove home today (Tuesday).
My sister was fine but then got the vomiting bug overnight Monday.

Haven’t read the whole thread but seems a lot of people have caught it. A poll to see the proportion that have and haven’t caught it would be interesting

Hi Pete I can take the one in Bristol if you still have it, I'll be there Tuesday evening if that's any good.

Sorry, my sister has that ticket and she‘s heading to Glasto on Monday as she’s working now

I've had the benefit of hospitality for the last few years (due to some work I do for the festival).

Wednesday morning there will be virtually no queue. You will get quick access to the site.

The biggest issue this year will be if you are using the hospitality (bronze) car park and what state that is in.

Like others here I'd say the campsite is a bit dull (good if you want to get a decent sleep though) but the showers are nice to have - although they get very busy with queues each morning from Friday onwards. Also the shortcut you can use between the pyramid and other stage is a good time saver.

Thanks for your reply. Why do you say the biggest issue might be the hospitality car parking?  Is it particularly bad in the mud?

Wow, congrats on getting hospitality tickets!  It's hard to know which companies are legit - who did you buy from?  I had a mail from Sincura Group but just couldn't afford it.

Thank you! They were through a friend's work - they are allocated a certain number of hospitality tickets each year. My friend knew how desperate I was to go so put a call out at work and it turned out one staff member couldn't go any more so I was first in line :-)

They were cost price (which is twice the price of a regular ticket) so not cheap but nowhere near the £7,000 someone else was quoted

  7. Somehow managed to get a last minute hospitality ticket - happy days :-).  I thought an unbroken run since 1997 was coming to an end!

Not really going to take advantage of any of the hospitality benefits as we want to camp with our friends but we have to collect our wrist bands from the hospitality entrance.  We want to arrive early on the Wednesday to be there when the gates open.  Has anyone had experience of this?  Does it take ages to get in at this time like the main entrance or can you waltz in due to the lower numbers?  Thanks in advance for any responses

  8. I've been going to Glastonbury since 1997 and in all that time I think there's only been three England Euro / World Cup games that have clashed with festival (probably because we keep getting knocked out so early!) - they've all been shown somewhere.

England vs Colombia in 1998 was shown in the cinema field (I think). It rained more than it usually does in the whole of June in the two hours of the game!

England vs Portugal was shown at the Pyramid stage in 2004 as it was on the Wednesday or Thursday - there must have been 60,000 people watching (which goes to show that a lot of people don't mind mixing Glastonbury and football)! It was carnage when we equalised with minutes to go before we inevitably lost on penalities - still it was probably the easiest time to take a penalty defeat - when you've got the whole of Glasto to look forward to!

England vs Germany in 2010 was shown in a few locations on the outskirts of the site. It was a decent atmosphere despite the fact Germany played us off the park!

I think they also showed the 2002 world cup final between Germany and Brazil on the Pyramid stage as it was in Japan so was on in the morning.

I seem to remember one of the charging tents showed the majority of the games in the 2010 world cup.

There's no need to leave the site if you want to watch the world cup!

  9. I'd go during the day rather than late at night. Two of my friends went on other people's tickets in 2011. One got in, no questions asked, on Wednesday morning despite being a different race to the person on his ticket.

Another was of a different race and gender but was friends with the previous ticket holder who broke her leg a few weeks before glasto. He came armed with a utility bill, letter explaining why she couldn't go and a photo of him and his friend with her ticket, letter and leg in plaster in the photo to prove authenticity. He tried getting in at midnight on the Wednesday when the gates were quiet and got refused about ten times at three different gates before eventually being let in at about 5.30am after a 5 mile walk to the gate on the opposite side of glastonbury! They still spent about 15 mins at the gate deliberating whether to let him in. Much better to go when it's busy and they don't have time to discuss between all the people on the gate whether to let you in.

  10. I went for the 12v ring automotive shower (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000V1UALM/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) that takes 4 d sized batteries for c£16 on amazon and a Quechua pop up shower tent from Decathlon (http://www.decathlon.co.uk/cabin-pop-up-changing-room-hiking-hygiene-accessories-brown-grey-id_8171223.html), also did the £5 solar shower bag (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000LTFCJY/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) for the warm water but will use the camping kettle if its not too sunny. Have already tried the shower and it's pretty good and I'd recommend the pop up shelter have tried it out and it's really easy to put up and pack away.

I have a portable ted baker battery pack that was on here a few years ago on from eBay which works a treat keeping my phone charged up for the whole 5 a d a bit days, so I'd definitely recommend.

Good shout! I decided to go for the same tent. Picking it up tomorrow!

  11. I got this (thanks to the links here) had to reserve and collect as there were non at my nearest store. Although the confirmation email said £17 when I came to pay for it the price had be increased to &21.49. Argos were great and a quick trip to the checkout person meant a refund for the difference put back on my card!

Even at £21.49 I'd say it was a bargain, it's massive! head down Argos then

Thanks, I think I'll head down Argos then - a back pack is crucial (which can't really be said for all my purchases!)

  12. I've been to the last 13 (my first Glasto was in '97). I wanted to go in '95 but my Mum deemed me too young (she was probably right!), then '96 was a rest year. '97 and '98 were both brutally muddy so we had a tough introduction to Glasto life! Radiohead on the Pyramid stage made it all worthwhile in '97!

  13. This thread is right up my street. Been going a bit crazy over the last couple of days! Although there are lots of bargains, I've spent way more than I would have had I not read the thread in the first place!

Bought the heavy duty cart, a cooking stove and an inflatable pillow (to take order over £50) from Robert Dyas

    http://www.robertdyas.co.uk/P~148837~Heavy-Duty-Garden-Cart

    http://www.robertdyas.co.uk/P~148945~Outback-Portable-Gas-Stove

    http://www.robertdyas.co.uk/P~162410~Summit-Inflatable-Pillow

Used code TEL10 to get £10 off £50 spend (it seemed like it was a choice of using that code or the free delivery code(£4.99 off)) so all three came to £46.96 delivered. Used Quidco so should get 5% cashback too. I'm loving the look of the heavy duty cart!

Also got these gas cannisters to go with the cooker: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pack-of-four-gas-canisters/dp/B000B8JMZU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370177353&sr=8-1&keywords=gas+cannisters

£5.09 - seem to do the same job as the more expensive Outback branded version.

While not particularly a bargain, I got this cooking set: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250553204286 for £15 which was cheaper than elsewhere for the same set and seems half decent quality.

Also bought the Hozelock portable shower recommended elsewhere: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360602760293&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:GB:3160 although most of the reviews on Amazon refer to people using it for washing their dogs!

There's a two for one on Argos Outlet (that ends at midnight tonight) so also picked up this mobile phone: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360496773668&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:GB:3160 in case I decide to leave the smart phone at home (or as backup for when the smart phone runs out of battery or gets dropped in the mud) I thought (although probably wishful thinking) T-mobile might provide the best signal as EE seem to be an official sponsor and are providing 4G coverage.

The portable shower and phone came to £17.89 delivered. Some places are trying (surely not very successfully) to sell the portable shower for £70 alone.

I also got a nano sim to full sim adaptor to see if the smart phone sim will work in the emergency mobile: http://www.amazon.co.uk/4sold-White-Standard-Adapter-iPhone/dp/B00BY5WNLY/ref=sr_1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1370178637&sr=1-8&keywords=nano+sim+adapter £1.19

I'm thinking about getting a solar shower bag to warm the water for the shower! These can be bought for £5.

I loved the sound of the portable urinals! I always wake up with a killer hangover, desperate for the loo - not an ideal time to brave the glasto loos - so went for some of these. They could be the best things since sliced bread: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000NVBYD8/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 £17.22

There's also a three pack version: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Traveljohn-66918B-TravelJohn-Disposable-Urinal/dp/B0019M7VE6/ref=sr_1_1?s=drugstore&ie=UTF8&qid=1370178983&sr=1-1&keywords=traveljohn for £5.22 - lots of positive reviews from festival goers saying it's changed their festival experience and they wouldn't go without them now!

Also bought two groundsheets from Poundland.

Total spend to date thanks to this thread (and my uncontrollable spending): £105.35.

Got a feeling we're going to need the heavy duty cart!

    Still on the wishlist:

    The 100L backpack from Argos

although this has gone up £4 from the price advertised earlier in the thread - it's now £21.49 rather than £17
portable mobile phone charger (maybe not necessary now i've got the back up phone!)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lightning-Sensation-Blackberry-connectors-customized/dp/B0063AAIRG/ref=pd_ybh_12#productDetails £25.99, supposedly provides four charges for a smart phone - would save a few frustrating hours wasted queuing for the charging tent.

this really would be overdoing it, but my girlfriend loves the sound of this - a pop up shower tent and some velcro to go with the Hozelock portable shower. pop up feature would enable the shower tent to be quickly taken down after use to prevent unwanted guests 'mistaking' it for a toilet!

Also vaguely thinking of getting a lantern. Would this be useful or a waste of time? We normally end up buying some of those long candles at glasto that aren't very effective.

Now need to start thinking about beer - is there a 'best place to buy cheap beer' thread?!
