  1. We've been the last three years and have enjoyed all of them.

First two years we camped up fairly close to the car park entrances and walked the ten / fifteen minutes into the main site each day (we're late thirties / early forties so the appeal of walking further than necessary with all the camping gear has severely worn off). We had plenty of room and it was nice and peaceful late at night. There does seem to be a younger and therefore rowdier crowd camped closer to the main site.

I saw a lot of comments on the official forums after last year saying the camp sites were louder, messier and full of younger more badly behaved punters last year. Unfortunately I cannot comment as I stumped up extra for a 'Belle Tent' as a surprise for my girlfriend.

Undoubtedly picking Florence and Vampire Weekend as two of the main stage headliners attracted more of the 'first holiday without mummy and daddy' crowd and this did affect the general atmosphere a bit. There was still the usual mix of excellence in the Literature and Poetry tents and the new comedy arena was a big improvement on previous years.

A big plus point, if you don't like mud, is Latitude has cracking drainage so rarely resembles the Somme.

Hopefully they'll resist upping the capacity again as it was noticeably busier last year but to be honest not uncomfortably so (apart from the near riots to see Tom Jones on the Thursday night) and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to take in some new and / or interesting music on the smaller stages and a mix of literature, poetry and theatre. We'll probably be going for the fourth year in a row if we don't get a trip out to Japan sorted.

  2. So there is no special Sunday lunchtime slot this year!

Well communicated Melvin Benn and Festival Republic!

    That's annoying!

I'd been keenly waiting for the announcement and hoping for another great Sunday lunchtime :(

Still, it means we won't have to rush out of the early edition to catch it <_<

  3. does anyone know the line up times yet?

or do you just have to buy them at latitude?

i have never been, first one. anything i should know for my first latitude?

    cheers

Fully agree the program is well worth the tenner, a wealth of info on who is on the smaller stages so you can make an informed choice on what to go and see.

As to what to go and see...

I'd recommend and of Robin Ince's book club shows in the literature tent, Marcus Brigstock's early edition in the comedy tent, Adam Buxton's BUG in the cinema tent as good alternatives to the music. The cabaret is also good for a laugh and something different and provided one of last years highlights for us (small child turning to parent when a drag act was on and saying 'daddy, is that a boy?' at full volume).

Plus the food on site has been ace the last couple of years :D

  4. Sound did seem a lot better at the Spillers site on Monday (Sunday was appalling, you could barely hear Paolo Nutini at the mixing desk). Fewer mewling kids hanging around with no interest in music probably also helped - their constant high pitch whines was akin to fairly bad tinnitus.

I'm not sure what the score was with selling out. Sunday day tickets sold out however they were selling weekend tickets on the day. Monday day tickets were also available on the day.

Definitely think the line up needs some work and seriously thinking through. Hardly any crowd for De La Soul or The Horrors after the mass exodus to the Baltic to see Example and Hadouken followed by the flood back for Enter Shakari.

On the plus side, food was better (particularly fired in the hole up at the Ballast Hill site even though the prices mysteriously increased by a quid between Sunday and Monday). Saw some good bands up at the Ballast Hill site though it never seemed overly busy so it may be a short lived experiment and the organisation and event staff were a huge improvement on last year.

Is it worth £25? Probably, yes. If there were two bands you really enjoyed then you get your moneys worth and we enjoyed a lot more than that (Slow Club in particular). Would I go back next year? Depends on if the price continues to rise and more increasingly year on year the line up.

  5. so would you reccommend the full weekend?

    what happens on the thursday?

The film and music arena was really good on the Thursday last year with the Smoke Fairies, Patty Plinko & her Boy and Camille O'Sullivan all playing. Was jam packed and made for a great start to the weekend.

Must say I'm a little underwhelmed by the main stage headliners this year. The stuff I'm most looking forward to at the moment is Adam Buxton: BUG; Rich Fulcher in the cabaret tent; John Cooper Clarke; Marcus Brigstocke's Early Edition and Robin Ince.

  6. Gorillaz would be a good headliner methinks although I hardly dare to dream.

Can see British Sea Power playing as well seeing that they've got a new album due out this year. Probably not a universally loved idea however I'd really like to see Biffy Clyro as well.

  7. Well overall another enjoyable Latitude.A few gripes with this festival as usual especially the 2 hour queue to get in on thursday afternoon which was f**king ridiculous! The usual over zealous stewards refusing even bottles of water to go through to the main area and the most ridiculous rule of all of not allowing drinks bought in the bar on the campsite to go through to the main area even though the bar in the campsite and the bars in the main arena are run by the same people!!??

    Anyway onto the goodstuff:-

1.Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds- unbelievable set from Nick and the boys(have the Bad Seeds ever sounded so good?!).

2.Thom Yorke-such a great set and thought that wouldn't be beaten until Mr.Cave later that day.

3.Spiritualised-glad they played in the uncut tent rather than the main stage as it sounded more intense in there, excellent set.

    4.Bat for Lashes-best i've seen them

    5.The Mummers-Lovely!

6.The Doves-perfect slot for them on the Saturday

7.Smoke Fairies-great stuff in the Film and Music tent on Thursday night with Smoke Fairies being the highlight for me but there was an excellent act on before them but didn't get their name(anybody help?)

8.Tricky- great set apart from dragging out the last song although great bit of crowd surfing!

    9.Broken Records

    10.Of Montreal

    Bubbling under:-

Broken Family Band,The hula hoop girl in the Cabaret tent,I Like Trains,Mik Artistik(several times-funniest thing i saw all weekend),and just generally the weird and wonderful random things in the cabaret and theatre tents.

Oh and also the weather was so much better than forecast.Thursday night looked very ominous for the rest of the weekend but worked out ok.

    All in all top weekend.

If it's who I'm thinking of it was Patti Plinko and her boy - spent a lot of the time sitting and playing the ukelele...

  8. Did anyone see the group of people dressed up as big neon puppet-like things on Saturday night (including Terence & Phillip from South Park)?

We saw them coming over the bridge and two event cover staff came running up to see what all the fuss was about and I overheard one of them saying into his radio...

'There's a commotion on the bridge, it appears some people have lit themselves up'

Among other highlights, what springs immediately to mind are...

    Thom Yorke's set

Thursday night in the music and film tent seeing Patti Plinko, Smoke Fairies and Camille O'Sullivan

Adam Buxton's Bug (with mild Stevenage)

Big gay pink poodle racing in the comedy tent

Altogether very enjoyable again and forgoing breakfast on site and buggering off early meant we were back in the North East before 3pm!

  9. Any sniff of a rumour as to when it's going to be next year??

I've been having a trawl about but can't find anything yet.

We had such an amazing time this year we're def going again next time, and will probably bring a few more along with us.
