  1. Fingers crossed this will pass without too much trouble but it's definitely a bit of a concern.

The upstairs bathroom window was open in my house tonight and there was a gale strong enough that it went all the way downstairs slamming the lounge door shut...ie. It was a hell of a gale.

Faced with a choice (at Leeds) I think I'd rather have last years weather as opposed to horrendous winds :|

  2. On the FR Stage:

    Grammatics

    65daysofstatic

    Jack's Mannequin

    Marina & The Diamonds

    The Joy Formidable

    Soulsavers

    A Place To Bury Strangers

    The Chapman Family

    Lightspeed Champion...

    ...and on the Introducing Stage:

    Bear Driver

    The Old Romantic Killer Band

    Minnaars

    Lovvers

    To The Bones

    Wonderswan...

Chickenhawk are also another band that I really wanted to check out again on the Introducing Stage but it's looking as if they'll clash with Pulled Apart By Horses on the FR stage. Grrr.

  3. Pretty ecstatic about that line up personally.

I was considering travelling down to London to see Doug Stanhope in September but it now looks like I won't have to. Add Tim Minchin and Brendon Burns into the equation too (even if he did play last year) and I reckon it's one of the strongest set of headline comedians they've had in quite a few years.

Only thing I'm a bit annoyed about is the lack of Adam Buxton at Leeds...

  4. Wow. This is actually amazing.

Another big departure for them too, particularly the vocals.

I've not really listened to Brand New in a while and they weren't high on my priorities of bands to see at Leeds but this has definitely renewed my interest now.

I literally can't get over how good the song is!

  5. Yeah I definitely recommend Lovvers too. I managed to miss their entire set last year but I've seen them a couple of other times and both times have been fab. I reckon the sound will be loud enough. It's usually pretty good on the Introducing Stage. I saw them on that same stage last year at Latitude and they sounded great.

I'd also recommend Kasms despite a lot of people not liking what they've heard! I'm still not the biggest fan of their recorded stuff but they are really entertaining live. I don't think bands like that necessarily translate very well in a recorded environment - kinda similar to Test Icicles.

Besides those two Chickenhawk are really good and might please those people who were wanting some heavier bands on the bill. They've been around for a while now and their album is one of the best I've heard this year.

  6. Ah great news :P They've been awesome on the Kong tour.

It's about time they got on the bill - they've been around for long enough!

Also worth checking for anybody bemoaning the lack of heavier bands on the bill.

I notice The Old Romantic Killer Band and Wonderswan have been picked too which are nice additions along with Milk White White Teeth (I've yet to hear them though)

  7. Biggest main stage crowd is gonna be out of Radiohead and KOL.

I reckon Radiohead are gonna have the biggest crowd because...well because it's Radiohead.

Personally I'm gonna be missing KOL and watching FNM in the Radio 1 tent but I reckon all these people that think FNM are gonna get a huge crowd are mistaken. I love FNM - I even went to Download solely on the basis of them playing - but I don't reckon the crowd (specifically at Reading and Leeds) is going to be all that bothered about them...

    I guess time will tell...

  8. As a few other people have said the sound was far better on the left hand side of the stage.

I was stood on the right hand side on my own and thought it sounded awful. I was gonna go and watch Slipknot but ended up getting a drink from the back of the second stage bar first. As I got there I noticed a bit of a gap at the left handside so carried on and squeezed my way through people to find there was tonnes of room at the left hand side of the stage and amazing sound.

I ended up missing all of Slipknot and stayed at The Prodigy on my own until the end when I headed straight back to the Campsite so I could miss the hustle and bustle that happened the night before. What took an hour the previous night only took 15 minutes this time.

All in all it was a pretty good night!

  9. Faith No More

    Deftones

    Radiohead

    Dananananaykroyd

    Manchester Orchestra

    Brand New

    Grammatics

    Pulled Apart By Horses

    Municipal Waste

    Lethal Bizzle

An extra mention goes to Tim Minchin too (with him not being strictly a "band" and all that).

I've not bothered to even look at potential clashes or anything yet but I'd probably say so far I'm looking forward to these the most. There's actually a hell of a lot I'm looking forward to this year.

    Swings and Roundabouts I guess...

  10. I'm incredibly skeptical that this will happen. Surely Download will have exlcusivity rights over their main stage headliners. If this is true, despite it being a massive improvement for the Reading line-up, it's surely a bad thing for English/British festivals on the whole as it means that 2 of the three sub headliners (if that's where they play) are already playing Download and the third played the same slot last year! Rather than a good booking I see this more as an oppertunity to give a big middle finger to Download (which, let's face it isn't in direct competition and rarely sells out, let alone within half an hour) which strikes me as unneccessary
