What I'm really saying, is this. After witnessing what I did, it became obvious, that all the major festivals blatantly break all the wrong employment laws. From where I was standing, It also seemed obvious, that Glastonbury were probably the leaders in this trend. If not the sole cause of it.

I volunteered for the first time this year with Oxfam at Glastonbury and quite honestly couldn't disagree more. You are provided a "safer" place to camp, facilities, food and a festival ticket all in exchange for 24 hours work. The ticket cost alone makes that worth at least £10 an hour, which is pretty insane considering you are a volunteer!

The Oxfam management were pretty open with the fact that people make mistakes and over-estimate their abilities to recover from drink/drugs/general exhaustion and promoted being honest to them so they could move your shifts, help you out or whatever else is deemed appropriate.

Personally I would have preferred a ticket however volunteering is still a clear amount better than not going at all!

What did you actually experience? It sounds like you just had a disagreement with your supervisor and that has tarnished all volunteering prospects for you in the future?

  2. Is it just me or does the Other Stage need another row of speakers? Obviously the Pyramid has 3 rows and even West Holts has 2 rows so I don’t get why the Other Stage gets away with just 1? I often find that unless you make your way in close to the stage that sometimes all you can hear is bass.

Im sure in the past there was a second row, does anyone know why that was removed?

I am so unbelievably excited but he stressed at all the festival prep I am now 2 months behind on!

    Hard work pays off ?

I have also just had the same email, but also now have a spot with Oxfam so anyone still looking, go create a profile with Festaff. They want you onsite from Monday afternoon though if anyone has time restrictions

Hey, just thought I’d let you all know that Feststaff are still looking for volunteers, they emailed me with a position as I had emailed them last week, but I now have a spot with Oxfam. I would defo say it’s worth emailing them as well as all the other companies who supply volunteers with a cover letter about your previous experiences, and stating why you’d be a good volunteer, as I have had such success doing this!

    Good luck!

I've just sent them another email! Hoping for the best ?
