  1. I've skimmed through this thread (enviously) so apologies if this has already been asked but... I've got an arpenaz 4.1 (not f&b) shell only (marketplace scammer, don't ask 😑) so looking to get a replacement bedroom compartment. I'm now  wondering would you get some f&b benefits from putting an f&b bedroom in the outer we've got? Or is it pointless? Having not yet owned (sacrilege) an F&B I wasn't sure if both elements are required to add up to freshness and darkness?

    All speculation welcome !

    Thanks 🙂

working with shelter this year. First time volunteering am excited to do the festival in a different way. Anyway got a question, how strict are they in crew camping about the size of your tent?  Lots of comments in the online training and also in the newsletter about not bringing a 6 man tent for two people. Spending 6 nights in a tent I don’t want to be squeezed in a small tent or willing to go and buy another tent to make this work.  Would a 3/4 man tent for one be acceptable?  Where do they draw the line or do they even check?

Also does crew camping get very crowded too due to limited space?

    Thanks

I think you should be fine, last time had a decent size 3-man (with a fair porch) just for me because that's all I have and it was fine. I think they're more focussed on discouraging those really big palatial structures

  3. Can anyone help?!

I've got the deposit deadline reminder email from Shelter (today 🥺!) but I've been back through everything and I think my overzealous junk filter must have caught and disposed of it so I can't find the link to pay my deposit! Does anyone have it to share? I've contacted the summerfest email and not had anything back yet.

    Thanks in advance!

  4. A WhatsApp group has been set up for shelter volunteers, someone posted the invite link on the Facebook group. I can’t copy paste it over from my phone atm but when I get home this eve will do it from my laptop (if no one else has been able to by that point :) )

  5. My request has been approved too ??

A few people were asking whether anyone had received confirmation of coaches etc and someone from shelter posted on the group to say that emails are expected to go out this week but confirmed that everyone has been given the coach time they requested.

There was also a post about the line up for the Arcadia crew bar Tow and Hitch, but I’ve seen that has now made its way into its own thread here too :)

Yes. When i've done it in the past we heard nothing at all and then just turned up and did our duty and had a blast. They're a charity, give em a break. I know you're keen but don't pester them, they've got a lot on their plate.

Ah ok thanks, good to know it’s possible we might not receive any info.

To be clear I definitely won’t be pestering anybody, I work for a charity and fully understand they have more important things to focus on! That’s why I tend to lean on these forums to express my little anxieties here instead :)  I just like to plan ahead as much as possible.

Of course we are all going to have a great time whatever! ?

I'm another one who has held out on Facebook, so would very much appreciate anything important being posted over, or anything interesting.

    Will do my best!

Although my request to join said group is still yet to be approved...

Out of curiosity, was it the same in previous years for the Facebook group? Or was it more email-based?

  8. I don’t like Facebook either!!

Hopefully they will email as well... I have however begrudgingly signed up to the group as requested because the stress of potentially missing key info is just too much for me ??

Happy to copy over Shelter’s posts into this forum if it helps?

  9. For those with a sweet tooth, just picked up 10 cans of Koppaberg mixed fruit for £9 in Sainsbury's.

They also had the Old Mout kiwi and lime or pineapple and raspberry, not on offer but £10 for 10 cans isn’t too bad

The only place I have come across bloody mary's is the bar just up behind the ribbon tower at the park stage...no idea what its called?! its kinda opposite the entrance to the rabbit hole. But they were about £8 each if I remember correctly! the pre mixed idea works really well and it does keep perfectly all weekend...I mix together 'big tom' juice, clamato juice, tabasco, worcestershire sauce, grated horseradish, celery salt, salt & pepper, lemon juice. then add your vodka when mixing fresh on the morning as I would imagine it going a bit grim with the vodka pre mixed?!

I can seriously recommend swapping horseradish for wasabi (a proper one), a bit of dark soy sauce instead of salt and also throwing some toasted sesame seeds into the mix. Trust me it’s MEGA ??

At home we ususally do this with sake instead of vodka but for festivals I always just take vodka and it works a treat.

  11. Yes, sorry I didn't really make it clear that I meant those as first/last shift times plus the rest in between, as you said.

Its interesting that yours are mostly 6 hours, in the training I attended she said it was 8. Good to have a mix :)

What was the general information on shift times and patterns?

No specifics but they said bars open at 11am and shut at 3am except one which is open until 5am. Shifts are 8 hours, you get assigned to a shift group but won't find this out until we board the coaches.

From this I would presume shifts are 11-7, 7-3 and 9-5, as well as the inbetweeny ones to cover peak periods. But that's just my assumption based on how we do it at other festivals, I'm new to Avalon so don't take my word for it!

    Hope this helps :)

As threatened on here previously, I hadn't heard anything regarding training by today so sent an appropriate email to Avalon Events. Got an immediate response. To anybody else concerned, let's just say I'm well reassured that they have everything sorted.

Thank you, that’s really good to know! Did they say when we might get an update?

I also emailed Shelter on Tuesday and haven’t heard back yet, didn’t think to go direct!

  14. I haven't done this one, I'm fresh to Shelter for Glasto but I've worked many a festival bar and have had many a mandatory pre-commencement training session such as these.

I agree its tedious for those of us that know the drill but I guess its probably a condition of their license as well as liabilities insurance.

I do find it odd that those of you that attended in 2017 have to go again unless there's been some update to the legislation in that time that we're unaware of?

    The mind boggles ?

As for Old Street yes I meant the station, escaping is whole different kettle of fish that I won't pretend to be able to help with ?

Google maps is my only friend in these situations!
