  1. Good -

    • Sunday's afternoon bill (Slaves, Seasick Steve, Frank Turner) who all at least tried to entertain the crowd, rather than plodding through the motions
    • Mexrrissey - as good as I hoped a Mexican Morrissey act would be
    • Cabbage - making a racket in the House Party tent
    • Reverend and the Makers - at least they tried etc etc
    • Happy Mondays - excellent
    • Gandhi's Flipflop thali, delicious
    • Art and stuff in the Woodlands
    • Being able to drive straight off site on Monday (it was 2:30pm mind!)
    • Food, some beer, gin bar, deep fried houllumi in a brioche bun, friends, family

    Bad -

    • Stereophonics (plodding), Manics (ditto - gave up after 4 songs and went to the Woodlands), Brian Wilson (Beach Boys greatest hits would have been fantastic, but that was just a bore fest)
    • The Coral - should be in the good list but as others have said Calling Out tent is way too small for a headliner like them - what I heard was excellent
    • Sound on the main stage - if you stood left or right on the periphery of the speakers it was way too quiet
    • Feeder - really looking forward to see them but they were just ordinary
    • Not seeing nearly enough - too knackered cos of the trudges through the mud.
    • Bringing far too much stuff, and then having to take it all back up the hill again yesterday (6 round trips -,sick of my life!)
    • Kids having a go at each other. My kids I mean, doing my head in!
    • The astonishing amount of abandoned tents, air beds, gazebos, camping chairs (rehomed a few of these mind!), full beer cans (Carlsberg, left it!), and general mess - humans are filthy creatures
    • Lack of dark beers with a bit of flavour in the Real Ale tents

    Weather

    • 4 seasons in half an hour, let alone one day. Mud got me seriously down. Friggin rain. Waterproof jacket being anything but. Water and mud and god knows what getting into the tent

    Still enjoyed it though!

We used one in our 1st year. If they're still the same they are a pain the arse. Buy a trolley instead

Cheers Rob - are they really that bad? One of the only negatives for the last few years has been the trek to and from the car back breakingly laid down with the kit!

I've done a Spotify playlist for the highlights of Main Stage for Sunday if anyone is interested...

Ah ha! Funny! Sunday is best for me -.Seasick and Slaves are a rock'n'blues'and punk blast, and I could sing along to Frank all night. Stereophonics? 2 good songs (tin hat on).

Hi all, first time at Kendal and cant wait. Heading down from Glasgow on Thursday morning. Apologies if already been asked.

How far is entrance from Campsite & likewise arena from camp?

Best campsite for a couple? Not looking for crazy area, maybe part that is sociable but not 4am tent raves ;) Just booked general admission.

    Small gas stoves aloud?

Best night time stuff after main area closes?

    Thanks in advance!!

You could camp virtually as soon as you get through the entrance gates - tents start to creep up the hill towards the entrance! Soon as you've passed the entrance and down the hill, turn left and you'll be fine - the further you go the quieter it will be. Don't whatever you do be tempted to turn right - there be monsters that way! 10-15 minutes walk max, even to the furthest camping.

Something that a lot of people are guilty of is massively overestimating how much they can/will drink.

Just remember you have to carry it back as well as taking it in.

This! Took about 24 cans of Hobgoblin in, back breakingly with all the other kit, and took about 16 cans back, after the appeal of warm brown beer lessened somewhat. Did drink all the gin and vodka however and copious use of the real ale tents.......

  6. I'm sorry to do this but I've got to mention the car situation. Arriving from The North on Thursday afternoon and leaving on Monday morning - virtually straight in and out again! What was going on! Excellent organisation this time round. And we weren't in Emperors like you posh lot!

  7. Blimey Lochland5 I didn't mean to cause offence by saying I didn't agree with the OPs point of view! I had a great festival (apart from the wee-throwing lout who hit my wife in the face during Noel - but we had a right go at him and managed to move him on) and I didn't feel the security or the police were over the top at all. 4th year at Kendal by the way.

  8. New to this forum - been reading it for ages so might as well join in, as I hate Facebook! Don't know what Tug life is going on about! Yes there were lots of cops'n'dogs on Thursday, but after this I never saw another one! Kendal's own security were visible and officious at access points (pulled my 18 year old son a few times when he was carrying cider through here as he had no ID), but nothing like enough to put you off!

None of our party of 8 (4 teens/young adults, 4 oldsters) got searched once, and we were in and out all day and night! Perhaps Tug had something to hide..........!!
