I was working on Gate D this year, started at 5.45am on the Wednesday. Had various different roles over the 8 hours including checking tickets and handing out programmes/lanyards. From about 11am-2pm I was directing people, and for the last few hours was basically not allowing them to collapse exhausted in the obvious place you would want to do exactly that, just after you passed through everything and emerged into Glastonbury proper. Sorry about that if I was nagging you; I vos only obeying orders!
Just when I thought I had seen the most distressed and ill-est person, another one would pearl up at the front of the queue! Jesus, there were some severely dehydrated and exhausted people in that queue, and I really felt for them. By the end of the shift I had given away everything I had on me to eat and drink, to people who's need was definitely greater than mine! I had to physically support a few folks who were teetering on the edge of collapse through the silly small turnstiles; some of the loads they were carrying on their backs were extraordinary! I was involved with helping the ambulance through twice for individuals who were fitting due to heat stroke, not a very nice start to your Glastonbury weekend I'd have thought.
It's true there was nothing in terms of refreshments waiting for you once you emerged blinking into the festival after the wrist-banding area, however there was a water tap up by the hedges on the right in the 1st field you saw (up where Dairy meets Back House), plus there was lots of water given out. I think people have to take a degree of responsibility for themselves. I'm sure almost everyone in that Gate D queue had expected to be in a queue, and we all knew what the weather forecast was.

Well done - I can imagine it was tough for you guys! I do agree there is a degree of responsibility, however I think we as a group had convinced ourselves to avoid the midday heat and arrive a bit after the gates open - get through and be done with setting up, how wrong we were! In previous years at that time of arrival we just waltzed right in. We didn't take into account the additional security etc this year - plus everyone else having the same idea!
Lesson learnt, arriving after 2pm next time! (We camp in South Park)

Gate D was craziness. We arrived at 9am (mistake number 1) and got through after about 3 hours. Only bought cold stella in an icebox (mistake or maybe not a mistake number 2) so slowly worked our way through that in the queue.
Luckily we had umbrellas, hats and sun cream but certainly no water was being handed out when we were there, maybe were unlucky. I had a water bottle with me but I gave it to a lad who was on the floor suffering from heatstroke in the zig zag bit.
Got to security, no questions asked, straight through to wristbands, no queue and collapsed the other side of gate D for about half an hour (slightly pissed and dehydrated haha).
The sweatiest start to glasto but we didn't care once through the gates.

The best time* to shower was around 5/6pm at the Greenpeace showers...never a queue

Such an amazing story, I can't imagine how nerve wracking it would have been to attend in the first place, and they really went above and beyond for her. Awesome

Was disappointed with the bar at the wood this year, last year they had draught beer and cider, plus Pimms etc. This year just some boxes of cider stacked behind the bar. Strange. I think maybe it was not finished in time?
Best for me was finding the Brooklyn lager in the T&C field this year. It was nice to feel a bit tipsy on some stronger beer after a few pints, rather than drinking many pints of piss weak carlsberg and generally needing the loo more than anything!

I have now lost my voice

I think they were to protect from heat in the day but I got mine at 7pm so was a bit late by then! Needed them in that queue at midday

I loved the Killers and wouldn't change my choice of seeing them, but I did really want to see Shaggy. Missed his spot in the gully later on too as we went to party early in SE corner!

Watched the first few songs, honestly didn't enjoy so headed over to Avalon to catch the rest of Jesca Hoop. She was great

The Brooklyn Lager in T&C was a welcome change - don't think the Craft Bar was there last year?

Thought I escaped it but felt a slight sore throat on Saturday and now today full festival flu

Gigs, pubs, packed trains you name it. I can't actually think how many times I've balled out some guy for groping me. Once even walking down the street. Got the biggest fright when i grabbed him by the bollox in front of his mates. Laugh was on him except I wasn't laughing. I was fucking furious.
Agree with this, there are so many different circumstances it happens in. I can think of three separate times the cock rub has happened to me on a train. Worst recently for me has been going out for a run. I have been chased, shouted at from vans, actually had a bloke the other day cycle alongside and stop his bike directly in front of my path...only to unleash a barrage of his gross sexual comments at me. Its made me quite paranoid and I won't run anywhere isolated alone or at night.

Tomorrow begins the plans for the next festival clothing ... have a few ideas brewing nothing to overstated will keep it low profile . quite hard keeping up with who I met with the usernames and real name combinations and a few drinks consumed too
Not sure what day it was but I saw you and said hello at the long drops at the bottom of Pennards...I apologise as I was many vodkas down by that point! Your outfit is great!

Mostly that the food for a fiver scheme should be an actual meal - not just cheesy chips. I didn't see anywhere that had a 'meal' for the price but could have missed it?
(Except obviously the food with donation at Hare Krishna) -

I don't think I've ever seen anyone freak out before in over 20 years but did this year. Girl rolling around on the floor on the path as I left Avalanches. She was shouting gibberish. Not nice. Saw someone collapsed on the railway track too. At some stupid time in the morning.
I saw this girl too - she was really freaking out. When I arrived two guys were restraining her - they got her glasto medical attention and police there too during Solange.
