Busy but satisfying times then, Sindig0 :):)

Yes, very busy. Still no phone, so more work done on house. Right up until I started tidying my decks and vinyl. 'Might as well get these plugged in' I thought to myself at which point, work promptly stopped for the evening. It was gone midnight when I looked up at the clock. Oops.

Del has been going to taoist tai chi for the last 13 years, Cal use to do it too but she gave up a few years ago as out too late earning womad tokens to make the classes.

When Del was younger he did Tae Kwon Do for many years which is why his knees make funny noises sometimes.

It was kung fu for me. I was always very careful to warm my knees up properly and so far at least, I've been spared. Must make that call tonight.

    Time for a coffee.

  2. Mornings,

CnD - Didn't know you did Tai Chi, Del. Which style? I used to do Tai Chi and I've just found a class locally which is the same school. I must make the call and get started again.

Mrs Sindigo is recovering from a back injury (herniated disc). She's almost recovered now but it was hard going for a while. A one point they had her on oral morphine for the pain. She literally lost two days--has no recollection of them whatsoever.

Hope your phone was a good play last night Sindig0! :):)

No, it didn't arrive so I had to work on the house. Cleaned the grout/tiles and silicon round new tiles in kitchen, filling and caulking in the hall prior to painting tonight. Mrs Sindigo has taken the girls to her mother's for a few days prior to my having a week off next week--my first since May. :dancer: So I can leave all the tools out, which is a luxury. I'm fitting carpets and doing lots of DIY stuff next week while we all stay at my mum's, so lots of prep to do.

:mole: <<<< This is as close as I can get to a "hits thumb with hammer" smiley.

SC - Very jealous of but also inspired by your bike trip, SC. Looking forward to seeing how the plans come together. I have an idle fantasy of taking a Harley, sorry a Halibut from Phoenix (where my cousins are) to Vegas one day.

Thank you, I have been lurking since 2006 but thought you lot seemed very friendly and just by chance I also go to Womad. :pleasantry:

    Welcome CyberP.

You've been lurking all this time? Wow. I wonder how many other lurkers there might be out there...

Hello all you lurkers. :focus: I couldn't find a little guy waving so, instead here's one of a guy lighting his own fart.

Right new laptop purchased, I've moved over to Mac, so let's unpack and see how you drive this thing :D

Ooh, new gadget--awesome. They make me use a Mac for work but I'm a PC everywhere else. I doubt you'll have too many problems making the switch.

I'm off to see if my new phone's been delivered. Tonight will either be a productive one working on the house or... less than productive playing with new toy.

    1) "I presume BIL is Brother in Law?"

    2) you never look as cool as you feel....."  :D

    1) Yes, sorry Brother-In-Law is right. He's been riding for years. He has some kind of monster sports bike (it's a green one, I can't be more specific than that), does track days, etc. He's at least as excited about me getting a bike as I am. Probably more so. he gave em an unprecedented bear hug when I told him I was thinking about getting a bike at Christmas.  :)

    2) Have you been talking to my wife? :D

BTW, your links are broken too. Is it just me having the problem viewing links?

SS, beautiful work from Jambo. Thanks for keeping us updated.

  6. Mornings all,

I wondered how long you'd keep them going for SC--you lasted longer than me! I ran out of bike chat. That said, my BIL has sold me on a Yamaha YBR125 I think. He said that I'm never going to feel like the original American badass on a 125, even if it's cruiser shaped so I should learn to ride on something safe and cheap and postpone the dream, along with the full back Harley Davidson tattoo (kidding) until I can ride one properly. Over a year 'til I'm 40. There's time. :mosking:

SS - The image isn't working for me either. Maybe try a different way of attaching it? I'd love to see it.

Mod's attitude to adblockers is fair enough--websites of this size are expensive to run but, as you say people sometimes don't know they're running the software. I installed it on my wife's machine so she could read her mummy blogs uninterrupted. Some of them are impossible without an adblocker, especially on mobile.

Thankfully, the ads on this site are pretty unobtrusive. Don't forget to give them the occasional click everyone. And if you want to buy something or use the service provided by the ad, consider coming here first and clicking-through. That doesn't work so well for me as because my I'm logged in to Google at work I get a weird selection of ads--everything from new trainers and Justin Bieber albums through wedding fayres and baby gear to saga holidays and funeral plans. :)

It's a big problem for my clients too. We saw our revenue and CTR (click through rate) from display ads (for this is what they're called) drop between 10 and 20% monthly during 2014-2015. Many brands are dropping them altogether in favour of other channels. This is partly down to adblocker use, partly down to consumer behaviour. Though, oddly there was a weird spike in CTR right after Christmas 2014. Why? Everyone gave their mum and dad tablets for Christmas that year and for a while, while they were learning to scroll using a tablet, they were clicking on a huge amount of ads. Then their kids installed adblocker on everything and the decline returned.

    But I digress...

Bright and cold morning full of pink, fluffy clouds giving way to glorious sunshine. Coffees all round between meetings this morning. :)

  7. Amelie has requested a return visit from a much underrated artist who appeared, I think 'off-programme' last year on the Sunday afternoon (our programme having long since disintegrated in the rain, we were unable to check)--CBeebies's Andy Day, the presenter of 'Andy's Dinosaur Adventures'.

Those in the Sindigo household who can actually spell 'Tyrannosaur', rather than just find creative rhymes for it 8 months on, would like to see Shovels and Rope.

Sindig0, sounds like you're having a less than fun time working on the insurance company contract... long to go? :):)

Valentines - anyone doing anything romantic ..or otherwise? :):)

Blimey, you've got a good memory SS! :) Less than fun is a pretty good description at the moment. You've no doubt heard the phrase "mushroom management"--well, it's a bit like that. It's a permanent contract so I'm stuck here until something new comes up in the area, either with my company or someone else but nothing seems forthcoming right now. Until something does it's head down and keep my mouth shut but it's very frustrating at times.

Nothing booked for Valentine's. We booked a mini holiday last night so we've agreed that will be our valentine's gift to each other this year.

Jax - Big hugs. Sorry to hear you're having a tough time of it right now.

the sad think is he might win and if he does then we need to start building a rocket to get off this rock

I don't think he can win. He's like Farage, about 15% of the population will likely agree with him and will vote that way given the chance but there aren't enough crazies out there to substantiate an outright win. Undecided voters are overwhelmingly middle of the road and won't vote for an extremist on either side of the aisle. If he gets the nom. though, the GOP will have to seriously consider running another candidate, which will split the RW vote and kill the party for a generation.

*** I would like to point out that I don't know what I'm talking about. ***

If he does, by some set of unforeseen and disastrous circumstances, become president of the United States, I will rapidly bring forward my yurt-building plans, buy a small plot of land north of the border, move the family, turn off the internet*, throw the TV in a lake and live a pastoral existence growing our own food and making our own clothes. I'm not sure I can live in a world that will have allowed that to happen. However, I expect that world would be turned into an apocalyptic wasteland by the end of his first term anyway.  :suicide:

*I will have to rely on SS contributing to the forum on my behalf. Likely by carrier pigeon.

On a cheerier note, I think this might be the only logical choice for the Womad pub:

To steal a popular pub name, "The World's End".

    Ooh, that's rather good.

I was thinking all post-modern with 'Beard' but that might be better for the craft beer tent. Also, I've just come out of a two-hour meeting on branding so that might be skewing my thinking a little.

  11. New coffee machine (still Klix, therefore crap) installed but not switched on because they want to do a 'grand unveiling' (I kid you not). Costa inexplicably down. Independent coffee still a long way away. Starbucks it is.

@Cal and Del I wish I could do a mail order effort or just bring it from home but I'm stuck in a ghastly office block (client's) which has no kitchens so there's no way to actually make your own drinks unfortunately. At least, not easily. Thanks for the tip though.

I notice Trump and Bernie won the New Hampshire caucus. Not sure how I feel about this. Trump's a monster but, to be honest, not much worse than his R. compadres (Spanish vocab intended), who are also monsters if truth be told but with less chance of a shot at president so it would probably be preferable for him to get the nomination. Bernie however seems more problematic. Though I think I'd prefer him to be president than Hillary on balance, she's definitely got more chance of actually making it as far as the oval office.

    No problem. Expect updates. :)

I enjoy the general-ness of the chat on this thread. It's a bit like a chat over coffee or pints and keeps me going til the next meetup.

Sounds like a fun spot of fencing SS. It's lucky you managed to save the panels. They're all sold out down here so I've heard. Ours seem to have stayed up, which is remarkable as the bloke who did the house next door and therefore, the fence botched everything else.

I personally would not touch the Chinese imports with a barge pole..... They are very cheap copies...

I thought that would probably be the case--they certainly look the part though! I'll try and pop in to the local dealership over the next few weeks and see what's about.

"so you would need buttocks of granite and the handling may be affected.... Once you know you can ride safely then follow your dreams and have fun :)

As I have anything but buttocks of granite right now and a strong desire to keep what buttocks I do have attached and unscathed, I will take your advice I think. Lots of cruisers for sale on ebay. Some Chinese imports very much look the part but probably won't hold their value but loads of older Suzukis and the like around too. I think I'll pop into the local bike shop and try out a few when the weather improves. I'm booking my CBT through them also and they seem very helpful.

Enjoy all things pancakes! I hope Sindig0 and Amelie have extra messy fun time! :):)

Pancake day is Mrs SIndigo's thing, I'm not a huge fan (especially when dieting). So I will leave the messy fun to the two of them this evening and spend some time with #2 daughter--likely chewing Duplo, which is her favourite pastime.

Sindig0 you really need to find a local independent coffee shop only then will your caffeine journey really begin

    #damnfinecupofcoffee

I wish. The nearest independent coffee shop is a trek from the office and I don't typically get the time when running out for coffee. I'm often jealous of your tweets on the subject. :) Sounds like you've had a fun-filled few days and deserve a good coffee or two though!

  15. Ha! Don't worry SC--no offence taken if that's your concern. I would far rather cruise around on a 125 for as long as it takes to gain the experience it takes to handle a bigger bike and run the risk of looking uncool with an L plate than rush it, go straight to something I can't handle and end up in tree. Very few can pull off cool from a hospital bed.

That being said, that little Honda 125 is a very cool looking bike, to me at least. I would be very happy indeed with that as my first bike.

  16. @SC You'll need to either click on "Show original listing" on that link or just scroll down to see it. Once listings are removed ebay makes them a little more difficult to find but they stick around for a little while.

Ha! I thought you might have a photo or two. Looking forward to browsing through your channel. Exciting stuff!

Sindig0, didn't see your post earlier ..... *extra ballast delivery for Sindig0 & family, wallabies in hiding and grumpy looking sheep*  We'll be ok at Womad this year; Rendrags is ordering sunshine along with his tickets :):)

Thanks, SS. I just got off the phone with Mrs Sindigo, who slept in the loft conversion last night with Penelope. She had a very windy night indeed. I think she meant the weather!:stinker: I really hope Rendrags manages to get hold of some sunshine. I'm not sure if Mrs Sindigo could cope with another wet one. I keep telling myself that, in the 15-odd years we've been going, there's really only been 3 wet years, which is pretty good odds.

It's nice to still be getting updates from Jambo. Please send our love. I wonder, has she tried a proxy server to access the forum?

    https://www.proxysite.com/

She might find proxys are blocked as a matter of course and I don't know if using one contravenes the forum T&Cs but it could get round the issue.

@SC Great to see the Enfield. Got another pic or two? I saw this on ebay the other day but it sold before I had the chance to really get my pulse racing. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bobber-HONDA-VT-125-/331765573590?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=%252FuNf8Ifz9K9p96E9HB1RMKt%252BBas%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

Must book my CBT soon. Excited again now the sun's just around the corner.

Still very windy in Bournemouth. I'm up on the 3rd floor and it's whistling around us. Will brave the elements in search of coffee shortly.

  18. Mornings all,

A very wet and windy start to the week after storm Imogen swept through Dorset. We visited a family farm yesterday. hoping to catch a glimpse of their new baby wallaby. The farm is on the top of Portland and t was v. windy indeed. Needless to say the wallabies were having none of it* and we had to content ourselves with feeding half a dozen grumpy looking sheep before curtailing our visit in favour of hot coffee and gingerbread men indoors.

(Terrible) Coffee machine switched off at work. Apparently, it is to be replaced. Perhaps by something better? Until then, there's always Starbucks and Costa for illicit beverages.

*Well, would you? Dragged to the other side of the planet to hop around a rock in the middle of the channel surrounded by weirdos. I have, on occasion wondered if the same is true for some of the artists at Womad--booked months in advance to travel from the caribbean and play in the rain.
