  1. There are a few bands from Frequency festival that are also playing R&L so I'm hoping for Placebo subbing Muse. I'm not sure what the chance is what with them playing Latitude/arriving back in Europe mid August but you never know.

Muse day is very very weak in my opinion and all the main rumours (XX, Alt J, 30STM) are really unappealing. I personally need someone better in order to justify the money I spent on a weekend ticket

  2. What acts are rumoured to be subbing Muse?

Not that I want to see them or know what there schedules are but are The XX or Alt-J in with a chance? Maybe even the Deftones but I guess they have a tour to sell first. Oh god please tell me there's some solid evidence that it wont be 30STM

How certain are we on the Biffy/FOB rumour? I can't imagine them ever having do co-headliners that would just be taking the piss. Which are the other stronger contenders? I would love someone like Florence, Foos or even Ed Sheeran, thoughts?

I cant see biffy/fob coheadlining. However, I reckon that Biffy headlining with FOB subbing would be a lot more likely. I just can't imagine biffy clyro subbing fob.

Yes as Mark said, it was arranged for Metallica at Reading to keep them away from Soni. Live Nation as a group work their fests as a group thing to keep competitors at bay. Have you not noticed how V and Reading are no longer as aggressive in their bookings towards each other since Live Nation got hold of V. They know what they're doing. I also know what im talking about and BMTH were NEVER going to headlining download this year, wasn't even thought about. AT ALL.

Do you happen to know what band was originally supposed to be booked for DL this year but fell through?

  6. When you think about it, the pool of potential DL headliners is pretty big if Copping can get them. It's big enough that theres no need to keep reusing the usual bands (Slipknot, Maiden, Metallica etc).

I know that it all depends on availability and that the classic bands are a safe choice. But I would love to see bands like Tool Green Day, Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters headline in the next few years.

Bit exaggerated. Only Sabbath and one time headliners AC/DC will pack it in so soon. Maiden and Aerosmith will likely be about still and Rammstein and Metallica aver another fifteen years or so yet.

I'm pretty sure that Copping said on the Thats Not Metal podcast that Aerosmith won't be playing Download again.

    in short, yes

Now I probably should have worded that better.

If the factor that justifies whether a band should headline festivals is the quality of the live performance then of course Foals should headline! But it's not...

You want a band that you know is gonna push those 90,000 tickets. Will foals be able to do that? I doubt it considering they havent get sold out an arena tour.

Don't start the Foals debate again please and thank you.

Does a live performance really justify a headliner? There are many bands that put on a brilliant live show like Babymetal, Marilyn Manson etc. But does that mean that they should headline the festival?

  10. What a weak year of headliners (minus RHCP+Biffy). Both Foals and FOB played 3rd down in 2013 and i dont know what it's gonna be like at foals' arena shows but I was at FOBs arena show and it was nowhere near full. And I doubt Disclosure are much of a pull either.

Is this what a headliner is now? A band that can barely sell out arenas?

Radio One mugged em off rate bad, seemed like an after thought, was really late and only announced the top two

I was thinking that. I sat there listening through shit for 30 minutes just to hear them quickly mention the headliners.

I think that this is where DL announces better, on the Radio 1 rock show.
