  1. Thankyou, that's good to know!

The shuttle bus is ideal. We get it every year from Derby train station to the arena. I believe it goes to another train station also. It's about 8 - 10 quid return.

  2. The issue is I'm taking my 14/15 year old stepson and two of his mates to encourage their love of all things Metal and keep the dream alive. We're only going for the day as their parents won't allow them to camp all weekend, plus it costs a fortune and I'd have to keep them in check for all of that.

Download charge £25 to park for the day. We're travelling up from Kent in the morning, and will come back the same day. Train is not an option as there aren't any from London to Kent, and last year we got home around 6am, which I don't want to repeat.

I don't expect anything for free, however other festivals don't charge that for parking.

The question I asked was, has anyone used the shuttle bus to and from the festival to the train station.

I didn't want to get into any debates, but will happily do so if required.

  3. After last years traumatic experience of leaving the Download car park on a Sunday night (2 hours) and getting stuck in traffic jams for another hour or two, I wondered if anyone had (I assume they have), parked in the Derby/East Midland Parkway train station car parks and got the shuttle bus instead?

It will end up costing more than the already extortionate Download parking costs, but I wonder if this is worth doing instead, and if it makes getting home on a Saturday night (this time) and back home south a lot easier.

Grateful for any help and advice!

  4. I was camped in P3 (same as last year) and found the whole Sunday night completely different. The fires and mob started slowly but once a crowd gathered together it became pretty big, a mob bigger than I saw last year. The police and stewards took a completely different attitude, the stewards were just generally dicks but the police were fair but firm. Problem was that the police shut off some of the gates so left the 'angry mob' roaming round purple unable to get out. They just kept laying fires, throwing tents and cannisters on and then moving on when it was put out.

Overall, it was probably better for most campsites but not for where I was.

  5. I'm heading back to Reading after a couple of years absence, and I'm another tea/coffee lover in the morning... I did a dry run the other week of using a Triangia burner, and can't say it's safer than using gas. :-/

Could anyone tell me if banning gas cannisters made a difference at all, or is it still like a scene from Apocalypse Now on a Monday morning...

  6. :P

I think there's a difference between name-dropping something on a constant basis and using it as a means to contextualise a point. Or in future it might just be a good idea to keep your bullshit to yourself instead of bringing unneeded hassle and antagonism to a thread.

    Anyway...

Like I said, I'm fairly happy with the line-up. I have my reservations about a few bands but at the end of the day I'll just go there and make the most of it. If you really feel strongly that it's a shit line-up then just don't go - make a tidy profit and sell your tickets on eBay. Change them for tickets to a festival with good bands.

A good festival is a varied festival and, frankly, I think Leeds/Reading offers quite of lot of choice for a lot of different people so by that I'd say it's looking to be a good festival so far. I have a handful of bands that I absolutely must see but I'm more than happy to check out any tent and see any band. Just go with it and don't make any plans.

  7. Train is a good way to go, but be aware on top of the 15-20mins to get to the entrance, you're looking at another hour traipsing through the site looking for a good spot...

As to best time to arrive, as early as poss on the Thurs, but not sure when they allow people in.

We've driven a few times, which is not in the festival spirit, but allows you to bring more beer and provisions. :P
