  1. It's been a ridiculous year for me. Managed 50+ gigs and a festival since January (and about 20-25 more last year after things reopened). Been up and down the country countless times and immensely fortunate to have made it overseas for a few shows. Got a couple of dozen planned for 2023, but  won't manage the likes of this year again!

January - Wet Leg (Manchester) and The Smile (London)

February - Yard Act (Leeds), Idles (Glasgow), Wolf Alice (Glasgow) and Big Thief (Bristol)

    March - Wolf Alice (Manchester)

April - Father John Misty (Leeds), Father John Misty with Britten Sinfonia (London), Jeff Rosenstock (Leeds), The War on Drugs (Leeds), Spoon (Chicago), Prince Daddy & the Hyena w/Macseal (Chicago), Wilco: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot 20th anniversary (Chicago) and Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets (Sheffield)

May - Pinegrove (Manchester), Viagra Boys (Sheffield), Osees (Manchester), Yard Act (Sheffield), Beach House (Manchester) and Brian Fallon & the Howling Weather (Nottingham)

June - Primavera weekend #1 with sideshows from Wet Leg, Jawbox and Slowdive (Barcelona), Parquet Courts (Manchester), Interpol (London) and Red Hot Chili Peppers (London)

July - LCD Soundsystem (London), Jimmy Eat World (Manchester) and Phoebe Bridgers (Manchester)

August - Chemical Brothers/Field Day (London), Gaslight Anthem (Birmingham), The National/All Points East (London), Nick Cave/All Points East (London) and Bright Eyes (Manchester)

September - Arcade Fire (Birmingham), Fleet Foxes (Manchester), The Weather Station (Leeds), Osees (Seattle) and  Gaslight Anthem (Seattle)

October - Alvvays (Leeds), Dinosaur Jr (Manchester), Pavement (Leeds) Pavement (Manchester) and Bob Dylan (London)

November - Ride (London), Fontaines DC (Leeds), Squeeze (Birmingham), Jason Isbell (Manchester), Bono: Stories of Surrender (Manchester) and Stereolab (Leeds)

    December - The Cure (Birmingham)

"Officially announced" suggests something was in the pipeline.

As Matt says, a few dates had been pinned down elsewhere. There was also a poster spotting in Frankfurt pre-Christmas (similar design to the original Eventim notification), just as the postponement rumours started gathering speed.

Yep, thats our ticket reality for most gigs here. The only thing that can save you on fees is depending which ticket service the venue uses. So if you can use Dice or See for example then fees are much lower. But if its AXS or Ticketmaster youre at the mercy of them.

Regarding delivery, almost everyone is digital now or will be turning to that in the U.S. which is a shame. Some ticketmaster gigs are still offering tickets by mail which is nice and its usually a $2 charge. AXS is THE WORST when it comes to that. If you want a ticket via mail they will charge you $25. I dont know why they do but apparently its to remind you to save trees. Fortunately gigs put on by Goldenvoice in Los Angeles offer will call pick up for everything which is $5 so I go for that whenever I get a ticket for something they put on.

I can post more examples if you like to see the disparity of ticket buying here. The one thing in the UK that is nice is theres laws in place to prevent that sort of thing. Although the hidden thing is that the promoter just makes a ticket a few quid more expensive to offset not being able to charge higher fees so you think youre saving a bit but not really.

The move towards etickets (with 'delivery' fees remaining in place) is something I've really disliked in recent years, especially as an avid gig ticket scrapbook-er. Whenever I'm booking stuff for the States now I always try for will call.

AXS are a weird bunch. I recently grabbed a ticket to see Titus Andronicus for their anniversary tour of The Monitor in Cambridge MA and they've shipped it over here to the UK for $2.50. Absolute madness. Rest of the usual processing and facilities fees do make up the ~50% markup though.

  4. Wu-Tang were so poor in 2019. Thought they'd been decent on the Gods of Rap tour that May, but were just going through the motions at Glasto that year and the bare bones staging didn't help. Still have rushes of regret for not going to The Killers if only for Johnny Marr.

  5. Really enjoyed yesterday, sound for Parquet Courts and Johnny Marr was very good at the front I felt. Great crowd and atmosphere for both also. Interpol was way too quiet. Absolutely ridiculous, especially as the band were playing really well.

Sound for The Strokes was fairly decent in the front, little bit low and muddy in terms of vocals but nothing noticeable compared to videos I've seen from elsewhere on site. What was abysmal was the crowd control and layout at the front. Crowd was lively, but nothing untoward, however the frequency of falls and crushes was unrelenting and often pretty grim.

Something has definitely changed since last year, a lot of promo material last year hyped up a state of the art sound system being used across stages for the first time in the UK. Nothing of the sort this year seemingly.

  6. Moved to Camden this year, on sale Friday. Three venues, the Roundhouse, Dingwalls and Camden Assembly.

Phoebe Bridgers, American Football and Turnover the main acts so far.

Has anyone been to previous years, if so what is the likelihood of American Football and Phoebe playing the same venue or are there many clashes?

  7. Saw them for the first time on Sunday in Manchester. Definitely a band where it helps to be familiar with their work, was a terrific show. The songs off Wide Awake are brilliant live, would be great in a decent John Peel or Park slot if they're booked.

Is that Corgan as a child? Nightmarish.

Jealous about the gig by the way, just couldn't quite justify the cost.

The images and videos throughout were equal parts mesmerising and terrifying! Basically Corgan debating his saintliness and his own unworthiness. Wound up going for golden circle, which is nonsense in a venue Wembley Arena's size, but normal standing was far too back to justify the £80.

I don't think that would make any difference to the average Glasto punter to be honest.

Very true, it's just being able to pitch it as a 'complete classic reunion' would generate more hype than drummer and guitarist return. Certainly would have improved sales in the US leg which were mostly good, but shaky in some regions. Either way, they'd have been a hugely outside bet. Probably play the Other if they do a summer festival tour for their new album out next month.

  10. Saw the Smashing Pumpkins at Wembley Arena last night. Was truly brilliant, stage set up was spectacular, setlist was a great collection of almost exclusively 'classic era' tunes (as well as a few covers and the compulsory new single). This current line-up is a formidable live act, playing so much better than the last couple of incarnations.

Sadly, think they'd have needed a full reunion with D'Arcy to be seen as anything like Pyramid headliners. Would do a great job on the Other I reckon. Set would need reducing from 3hrs though.

  11. I'm more shocked they only broke up in 2011, thought it was about 10 years ago.

In all fairness, their last live shows were towards the tail end of 2008, so it's been nearly 7 years since they were 'around' as a performing act, even if the studio farewell came out in 2011.

  12. Taking the younger brother up to Blackpool for the show, haven't seen them since Wolverhampton in 2012, how does the band hold up live in person compared to then? especially with TMW tunes in the set (which I love). Videos have looked good but prefer to hear it from those who were there, would be much appreciated.
