  1. Hey folks,

I know that flags are not the most popular of Glastonbury items and I have never taken one myself, however, my best friend recently died, he was due to attend his first ever Glastonbury with me this year and so I wish to get a flag made in his honour so that I can take him with me. I have seen people with ones that have obviously been printed/designed etc, can anyone point me in the direction of a good place to get one created from scratch?

    Thanks in advance

PS I promise to use the flag responsibly ;)

  2. Hey all,

I was just looking for Glastonbury local news and stumbled upon a post for the Somerset Gazette, they are doing a 45 year special edition paper insert and you can buy it online.

Apologies if this has been posted before, just wanted to let those who like to collect such things know...Ive just ordered mine :)

  3. After years of sleeping on those foam roll mats, we gave in and got an air bed. We have a coleman convertible, which is two single air beds that zip together. It really is very comfy and we dont have the issue of one of us moving and distubing the other. However, we have used it for a few festivals now but are finding that both of us are colder than we used to be and it gets damp from the air condensating. We went camping last week and after researching how to fix the dampness I used a foil blanket underneath and a thermal sheet on top. First night was a great improvement but by the second we were shivering again and woke to find the bed damp.

So, I have decided to scrap the airbed idea and instead have just purchased 2 thermarest self inflating mats and the couple kit that holds them together. As both of us are under 5'6 we went for the womens trail lite mats as they are warmer mats but still light enough for us to carry as we camp and festival on foot/public transport.

Fingers crossed that this will keep us warmer but will not compromise on comfort....we will find out in just over a week!

  4. Been twice so far, totally sober both times. Probably be the same this time, although I am considering the e-fest meet which could be testing.

I've not missed booze at all, and like the pluses of staying hydrated, fewer trips to the drops, no hangover, money saved.

    oooooooooo yeeeess! no hangover!!!! Bliss!

Im going to attempt the e fest meet up too, was a bit nervous...but now I know I wont be the only sober one Im definatley going to come and say hi!

  5. How absolutely amazing! This just goes to show that festivals dont have to be the big mash up that everyone expects them to be!

Glasto is amazing sober. Maybe see you at the Stone Circle for an orange juice!

    Absolutely mate! See you there!

I'm another who will be doing Glastonbury sober!
I do it out of preference, I've never drunk, and not ever felt the need to. I don't partake in drugs either.
And I totally don't feel like I'm missing out on anything either...this is my sixth Glastonbury this year and of course I've enjoyed every single one.

Ive done so many festivals but I can honestly say that its my sober ones I have enjoyed more, I dont feel like Im missing out either, in fact I missed out on all the one pre recovery as I hardly remember a thing!

I do it sober each year and as has been said there is enough going on to blow your mind within adding in anything else. You can be walking along and a man stops in front of you sits down and creates animal heads moulded around his own head from the big lump of clay he is carrying. Then a mass of people being led around by an agent provocateur create an impromptu choir outside a pizza shop and sing "just one organic pizza" until they have one delivered. This is at one o'clock in the afternoon not late at night in a kooky area. Who needs chemicals amongst this?

God I agree with this!!! There is just so much random crazy stuff going on, you dont need drugs! My partner and I dodged some bouncers last years and ended up in a secret kitchen set up where we walked through a fridge......craziest experience Ive ever had without drugs!

  6. Its still called Webbs Ash - they just dont put all the names on the map on the website, they all appear on the more detailed one, if anyone can be arsed looking!

    Yup!

And I only look at the map for campsite info, in this case switching things up this year by having a change of field. We are decided on Webbs Ash, it is a bit more of a trek from gate A, but not that much further than our usual haunt (Pylon).

    :D

  7. How awesome to hear from so many others who also like the sober buzz!

Its amazing to see that there are people that simply choose to stay sober, not out of need (ie alcoholic like me) but out of preference. I completely agree that doing it shit faced seems a waste. Having done so many that way I can definitely say that I prefer this way. I remember so much more for a start!!!

Thanks so much for the replies, its really helped me to see that Im not as alone in my soberness as I sometimes feel

    :D

  8. Last year was my first Glastonbury, and I did it completely clean and sober. In "real life" I do drink, but I've never taken drugs. I've found at Glasto, I don't need mind altering substances to get high, I get off on the atmosphere. Not that I'm criticising anyone who does need it, whatever gets you going. I find Glasto such a momumental mind fuck (in the best possible way), I have to do it completely sober so I can enjoy it more and not worry about breaking my tent in my drunken state, falling asleep somewhere inappropriate or the hangovers! I'm planning on doing the same this year.

    Congratulations mrfinn on sobriety!

    Thanks Ave!

Massive kudos to you for doing your first Glastonbury clean and sober! I agree with you, getting off on the atmosphere alone is just incredible, it is indeed a monumental mind fuck!!! You know I used to get in such a state at festivals I now cant imagine how i ever survived!!!

Maybe see you up at the stone circle with my carton of orange juice, dancing and grinning my face off :)

  9. I love the build up!

For the last week Ive been busy writing up lists of recommended new artists to see, places Ive still not found that I MUST find this year (elusive piano bar!) and buying all sorts of new camping kit which is my favourite past time!!. We have one built in wardrobe in our flat that is exclusively full of just camping kit...!

Weve just bought a new tent so we had a weekend away last week to test it out (any excuse!)

Now my prep to get ready will be to listen to the Glastonbury playlist on spotify over and over and pace up and down until 23rd June.....

  10. Cheers mate :D

I always make sure i have measures in place should things get difficult and Glastonbury has the blessing of having regular 12 step meetings in the healing fields, which makes things easier. Its always one of my highlights, meeting others enjoying the clean buzz.

It was hard in the beginning when I first got sober, especially at night, but now it really doesnt bother me and the bonus is that I remember the whole thing and dont have to deal with hangovers!!

  11. Evening!

Right.....I could be setting myself up here....but....

Im a recovering alcoholic/addict, been clean and sober since August 2010, gave festivals a miss for a short while ...just in case, but missed them so much and was determined to manage them drink and drug free. Ive now been to many festivals in my almost 5 years of recovery and I absolutely love the sober/clean buzz!

Are there any other people on this site like myself who dont drink/take drugs? There are a fair few of us about...attended my first AA meeting at Glastonbury last year and it was pretty busy so I know Im not alone! Just wondered if there are other member on here who either choose not to drink or are in recovery and would like to connect?

  12. Im really glad you asked this as I have just started wearing contacts too and am a little concerned about managing them at Glastonbury.

I cant uses daily disposables, its monthly lenses for me otherwise id say that removes a lot of hassles. I went camping last week so I had a practice at managing them, the hardest part (which probably gets easier once yourve worn them for a longer time) was working out how to negotiate putting them in in the tent...trying to balance a mirror and something flat to lay them on....was a bit of a fiddle!

On coming back home I found this on ebay, a great case that holds lenses and glasses and looks fairly easy to carry around in case pyramid dust from the heatwave we are going to have requires emergency removal of said lenses ;) . Plus it has a mini table like thing. Just ordered mine.

  13. Great info here.

We had the swappable ones last year and have just got the EE free one, they are fine for a top up or one full recharge but thats it. As much as it is about the music and escaping the world for the weekend, it is good to be able to be in touch and/or follow info online for things happening so I have been looking at getting some kind of portable charge device. The recommended EC one looks the way to go in order to be able to charge mine and my partners phone for the weekend.

One thing i wondered, the tampon sized ones are good for sticking in a bag, would you be able to charge one of those off the EC brick to carry around with you during the day?
