Just after they released their last album it took them a while to sell out Brixton IIRC but then by the end of their campaign they sold out Earls Court; they are probably sub-size now
Yeh agreed - future headliners I think - i was in their NME headline slot 2014 and it was off the wall

I know this is 2016 thread but thoughts on Bombay Bicycle Club making the step up to headliner or atleast subbheadliner in 2017 as they are sure to be promoting a new record by then and they are a reading staple band

How did you conclude from that that it might be a band who probably won't even be touring? 99% of bands fit that description, it means nothing.
It was a suggestion and actually very few bands have drums, bass, lead guitarist and a singer. If its exactly that then that rules out the Foo's, Muse and Florence.

Well in an interview with NME melvin said that all he can say is there is one band booked as a headliner who have a drummer, bass, lead g-tar and singer. Kasabian?

I am on the forum
On various occasions in last few months they have denied the fact that they will be playing. Comments like 'too soon' and theyll be 'recording' show that its very unlikely.

To be fair people were dismissing Mumford when he said them...but then again he said really stupid things for this year and last year so why would we believe him. It is was just a fluke really and none of use saw coming
It wasn't fluke - I knew they were coming back in 2015 and I knew that reading would book them as they appeal to the kids

Nah everyone said Mumford was definitely not gonna happen and got all the 'more for V I think'. I knew it was gonna be them - as I said reading liine ups arent as 'cool' as you think they will be

I keep changing my mind! I've been the past 3 years, I don't think it'll be foos cause they have a nice glastonbury sized gap in tour, I may be wrong but alot of people are saying mumford but as big as their following is I wouldn't think they would be headline material, maybe sub or 3rd but not top. Linkin park is a possibility due to them suddenly appearing again it wouldn't be too far fetched, I did see Jamie t and wanted to shoot myself. Haha!

Bombay last year were the fucking bomb - I dont listen to 1975 but got dragged along and was blown away

I doubt Ed Sheeran would be announced for a festival with a capacity of 170,000 when he's got to sell 80,000 tickets for his own gig at wembley that goes on sale this week...

Reading also books more acts like The Libs and Radiohead than acts like Ed Sheeran.
You might be right when it comes to headliners but I would say but in terms of fanbase there would be more people who like Ed Sheeran and Arctic Monkeys than Radiohead and Arctic Monkeys - look at some of the big bookings last year, 1975 and Bombay both indie pop(both excellent live)

I am just saying! others were speculating whether it is a clue! Ed Sheeran would be unusual and plays guitar - I actually think he would be quite a popular booking - obviously not for you guys but reading doesnt book for the people on the forums who can't stop talking about the Libs and Radiohead(the latter who I would love to see by the way)
