  1. So, let me precede this by saying this is a 100% genuine no joke serious scenario.

My friend made the decision yesterday that he cannot attend the festival due to an issue with a close relation who's health has recently rapidly deteriorated due to a serious terminal illness. The decision was not taken lightly.

He wants to get rid of his ticket if he can and get some re imbursement if possible, has no insurance, and someone in my family is interested.

We are looking at the likelihood of him getting in on the ticket on the basis of them not checking the photo. They are similar age, white, male, similar coloured hair but the similarities pretty much end there.

The other option we are considering is contacting the festival and seeing if they will make an exception on compassionate grounds. Does anyone know if this has ever been achieved and what the likelihood is?

Right now we're trying to make the best of a bad situation and alleviate the stress for someone who has enough on at the moment and also give a genuine Glasto enthusiast the chance to attend.

    Any advice welcomed.

    Cheers

  2. Hi, my name is Rob and I'm addicted to the weather thread. I've been using for the past week and I've been addicted before. This year it feels worse than ever. I know the threads bad for me, it's a pointless experience which everyone knows leads to nothing in the end but I'm serious when I say it's more addictive and dangerous than crystal meth. I'm here for support because I know there are others here who understand and feel my pain. If there's a God I know that someone will here my cry as I reach out for help here now...

    I'm ADDICTED! HELP!

  3. I think a lot of people seem to have missed the fact that Reef have reformed and are playing at the festival! Come on! Doesn't that make up for Led Zep not playing the Saturday night???

    :P

Nah - seriously though - respect to Reef, I liked them as a young kerrang reading metaler and I may well check em out. They played a few times when I first started going so they're one of the 'bands from the past' I reckon.

The line up is typically Glastonburgian (isn't that what Macca said?)... and all the acts my first timer friends wanted to see are on (Faithless, The Xx, Phoenix, Florence, The Temper Trap)... whereas I will enjoy ticking U2 off my 'bands I must see before I die but aren't prepared to go to one of their headline shows unless someone buys me a ticket' list and simply revel in this being my 11the Glasto and having made it to the 25th anniversary and the 40th.

Being a somewhat old timer now, I wish to remind everyone of the old addage... 'you don't go to Glasto for the music, you go for 'the festival' '. f**king hell, I always say this, but it's totally true. For that one week in June, there is NO WHERE I would rather be on mother earth than in that little corner of Somerset (and I've done my fair share of travels).

Glasto is RAD regardless of who is playing... you know why? Because you're going, and I'm going, and we are as much a part of the festival as the bands? What do you remember most about the festival when you're actually there, moment to moment ? The bands are the backdrop to fun with your friends, with strangers, with the people. Meeting some crazy random looking like he's having the time of his life, smashed out of his mind in a chair at the top of the hill at the main stage amongst a shit load of mud while Bloc Party rock out is one of my favourite memories IN MY LIFE, never mind at the festival.

That is why Glasto is more of a way of life for me, almost religious... and not just a f**king 'gig'.

PS - I was totally MADE UP when I saw Slash was playing what now seems to be the Sunday Arvo Hard Rock slot. I will come in my pants when I see him walk out on stage at Glasto. Gn'R was my first gig in '92 and the 16 year old in me still gets excited for anything Gn'R related! :P

PPS - Coldplay, Radiohead, Gorrilaz for the morning slots with Them Crooked Vultures and The Libertines for the Saturday arvo please Eavis's.

  4. Bumped into Danny from Supergrass late on in Trash City... he looked a bit old now... probably the drugs... he said he was a bit too wasted to talk so I said 'thanks for the music' and left him to it... my friends seemed quite impressed I spotted him though!

  5. I think the Friday slot on the main stage will be The Rolling Stones...

Then I think Pink Floyd will do the Park on Sat just to annoy those who wanted to see em on the Pyramid, and as an extra surprise, Rick Wright will be back on keyboards and Syd will be playing a bit of rhythm guitar...

    Just my two penneth...

  6. OK, more honorable mentions...

The Black Crowes - Wiser Time - 95

Radiohead - No Surprises - 97 (magic - with the fireworks from the Jazz World going up)

    Sting - Fields of Gold - 97

Blur - End of the Century 98 (dedicated to Judy off of Richard and Judy coz Damon was worried about her)

Al Green - Lets Stay Together - 99

Moby - Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad - 00 (amazing live vocal)

    Coldplay - Yellow - 02

Paul McCartney - Calico Skies - 2004 (because my Mum stole it as a tribute to how much she loves me)

Brian Wilson - God Only Knows - 2005 (because its my parents 'song')

Tony Benn - Leftfield Tent - 2005 (moving speech by a legendary man)

Marley Brothers - No Women No Cry - 2007

(sorry - I got right into this thread and had to post my full list - I'm an emotional man... but the drink and other stimulus help too!)

  7. Me too :P

    Too many to mention -

A New England, last year, when Billy dedicated it to Kirsty as ever.

All of Elliott Smith's set in 2000

    Everybody Hurts in 1999

Hello Sunshine (SFA) in 2007, when the sun shot out from behind the clouds

There will be many this year, Lamb and Blur no doubt at all!

  8. Bawled my eyes out to Roger Waters in 2002 (is it REALLY 7 years ago!?), late on on a Sunday at the Pyramid with all my bessie mates, brother, ex-girlfriend... then 'Wish You Were Here'... 'nuff said.

  9. Hello and Beunos Dias

I have just returned from South America, and before that New Zealand. Therefore I have not been on the forums this year at all as at this late stage (having landed back in Blighty May 31st) I have been 'sorting my life out'...

I have been a member here since 2004 and have lurked with occasional comments every year I've been to 'THE' festival.

This will be my 10th Glasto, (starting in 1995 and only missing 2003 and 2008 when I've been living overseas) and I'm looking to forward to celebrating getting into double figures in style!

However, as I've got older the 'pack' of friends I assembled since my first expedition to the festival as an 18 year old has dissapated and I now accompany only my bessie mate who joined me at the 25th anniversary and his girlfriend who are going to be doing it in style in a caravan!

Basically I'm looking for new friends and I thought this was the place to start. I am keen to attend some of the meet ups and perhaps camp in the 'triangle' (especially as the forecast looks AWESOME!). Is anyone in my shoes who wants to say hi and have a cider?

I would love to chew someones ear off about travelling, music, the festival, life the universe and everything and let them chew mine in return (ahem).

I guess my main question is, rocking up to the efest meet as a lurker, am I likely to feel like a spare part? And who are the main movers and shakers on the board so I know who to thank etc (as I mentioned, I don't have much time to research as I'm desperately looking for work atm!).

Cheers guys and - gotta say - BUZZING for this one, the line up looks legendary, the weather looks sweet and I'm sure you beautiful people will not dissapoint!

    Peace out and CHEERS

    RobD

  10. HEHE i loved the weather thread in 2005. People were having actual meteorological arguments and we had people from the weather forums commentating. Then we had three days of Sahara sunshine and a f**king monsoon.

Surely no year was worse than 2005?? I walked to the cash points during the storm and it was seriously scarey. Rivers, mudslides 360 degree forked lightning people running around screaming. Then you couldn;t walk between stages without it taking two hours and losing 3 pairs of boots. Wish i new how to post pics on here, i hae this wicked one with a don;t walk on the grass sign stuck in 3 acres of brown mud in front of the other stage!
