  2. Rama, there was an Aspalls cider tent a few years ago, 2010 or 2011 i think or both.

As far as decent cider goes from the commercial producers, Thatchers are one of the better companies but avoid Thatchers gold which is what you find in most pubs on draft. I really like Sheppys cider. Lots of different apples and different strengths.

Beautiful Days have loads of great ciders straight from the barrel at normal pub prices. Some are 8 or 9%. I lost a couple of hours on Saturday afternoon last time I went in 2012.

  3. One of KC's bad points is that they don't post each stage run times beforehand so it's hard to plan ahead.

(I do understand that this can be difficult as things can change but other festivals do manage to do it).

You have to wait until you are onsite to buy a lanyard. Last year I thought I'd head to a bar to plan my weekend before seeing Craig Charles on the Thursday evening.  I still haven't started.

I did catch the last 20 minutes of the Feud when they headlined the woodlands the other year. Pretty full and great atmosphere.

Definitely worth popping up there even if it is just to chill and have a drink during the day.

  4. Depends on the age of your kids but I would recommend getting a cab if they are young. Had six in my party in 2013 and could only get 4 in the car with all the gear so 2 went by train. They didn't book a cab just got one from the train station and it was £9 one way.

I'm guessing, but reckon the same as ram, about 15 mins to where the deer lodge reception was last year, maybe 20 mins when carrying bags and kids. The bell tents were a bit further away from the Deer Lodge reception than the Pod Pads. But the layout has change slightly each year. But at least you don't have to put any tents up when you get there.

    Enjoy.

  5. I think the setup has changed slightly each year. It's definitely much bigger now and the tents/yurts/pads etc are much closer together. I stayed in a bell tent once. They are nice but the whole thing is not as luxurious as they try and make out. I preferred the emperor field when you could park next to your tent. You had more space the grass was shorter to you didn't get so wet when it rained (or dew in the morning) the toilets were closer, the ground is flatter, your closer to the arena ..... But then the emperor field is not what it used to be. A couple of years ago you would have been better off in the family field than the emperors at no extra cost.

They did make changes last year so the Deer Lodge car park was closer to the tents and you do have toilets closer now than when the Lodge started. But the biggest advantage is that you don't have to pack or put up a tent. So more room for beer, food etc. Also you will have more space and head room than a normal tent you'd take to a festival. Not stayed in the lux pad, but they look like they have a solid floor which would be a big bonus.

Other than that it does tend to be a bit more tame than general camping. I know it does depend on who your neighbors are and there are those people who say "it is a festival, what do you expect", but you are not likely to have people partying until it is light, peeing on your tent, being sick on your tent...... as happened to me on the Saturday and Sunday night my first year in general camping. And I was right next door to the family camping area or possibility in it. (It wasn't as well marked out back then.

Is it worth it - Yes, it was for me when I stayed there as was a special birthday in the family, I was busy at work so didn't have time to sort things out, had teenage kids.

Reply if you have any specific questions. But be aware that the setup has changed each year across the whole festival so it's likely to again with the capacity is increasing.

  6. Im pretty sure emandjay aint going this year......

It would be just my luck to win the year I'm not going.

Still not impressed with the line up but going to miss it all the same.

Hopefully be back next year if the increased capacity doesn't spoil it. Maybe, if I win of course, I could collect the winnings in 2016?

  7. Not doing KC this year (first time I'll miss it in 6 years) but quite fancy this. I use to work just a few miles from the site 20 odd years ago so be nice to go back. Hopefully be like KC was a few years back, but better as they should have learned from past mistakes.

  8. Well I'm not sure if I'm going yet. If I don't you can donate my winnings to charity.

Avoiding the dead certs like Riot Jazz Band, Craig Charles,Tim Burgess, Hot Pots and Glow Tent regulars here's my attempt.

    1. Beans on Toast

    2. Billy Bragg

    3. Black Rivers

    4. Buzzcocks

    5. Courteeners

    6. Dreadzone

    9. Gorgon City

    10. Lonely the Brave

    11. New Order

    15. Staves

    16. Stranglers

    17. The Fall

    18. The Family Rain

    19. The Farm

    20. Wolf Alice

  9. I dont want to upset anyone but im afraid they have more or less self confirmed already. I forget where it was now (think it was either their twitter account or their facebook account) but I read a reply to a post on whether they were playing in cumbria any time soon by saying they were hopeful of playing at KC again and talks were at an advanced stage.

I'm all for a diverse line up but, come on, the acts have still got to have some sort of quality about them. Surely that counts the Hotpots out.

  10. I've been for the last five years and it has rained at some point every year. (Well it is in the lakes).

2011 had the best weather. 2012 was a wet summer and there was a fair bit of rain over the weekend but last year was the only time it spoiled the weekend for me. My Mrs also has arthritis so found it hard going plus she doesn't like getting wet. I haven't managed to persuade her to go this year yet.

  11. She said the same after 2012 when the weather was bad but nothing on this year. A nice wee surprise ticket on Christmas morning will sort her out........Hopefully :ninja:

I'd get her something extra like a new ironing board cover or toilet brush as well. Pretty certain that would do the trick.

  12. What KC needs is more bands like Reel Big Fish to dilute the blandness of most indie bands.

Bloody hope not. Saw them at Beautiful Days a couple of years ago. Awful. As bad as the Hot Pots. Made sure I avoided them this year. I'm all for a good mix but more than one novelty act would be taking it too far.

Something tells me the main stage is gonna be open on the Thursday next year, why else would they be asking us to name the 4 headliners we would like to see?

I'd be surprised if they get an extra day but it was good to have more happening on Thursday this year.

  13. Not as good or friendly as usual but that could be down to the weather and the fact that I had a bad start to the weekend. The journey from Midlands took 3 hours longer than usual so arrived late on Thursday. Then one window on car wouldn't shut so car was soaked. Missesd a lot of the day waiting for AA who arrived 4 hours after they said they would.

I thought best main stage acts were the heavy & Frank Turner. Catfish were great and enjoyed Findlay, Gallery Circus.

I also left early for the first time leaving before example finished.

I'll see how I feel in a couple of days but for now glad to be dry and clean

  14. Great news that! Both him and Catfish playing :D

Great if the are as looking forward to both.

I'm not so sure, don't forget kendals pretty mainstream in its audience which means examples gonna appeal to the majority. Frightened rabbit will be a good alternative for people who don't wanna see him. Bet the main stage is rammed for example

Yeah, I think your right Ramragon. A lot of people are looking forward to Example. Me, I'll be in the calling out.

  15. Not sure what the set up will be this year, but last year, the queue in the emperors field for the showers was so long I used the showers in the family field. As I had a emperor wrist band I didn't have to pay and there was no queue. Don't tell everyone.
