To those arguing for Arcade Fire as headliners, I have to express my doubts.
Whilst far from perfect, a good way to judge the size of an act worldwide is check how many facebook fans they have. (Taking into account that contemporary acts will have more fans using facebook than older acts).
Arcade Fire have just over 1 million facebook fans.
Contrast that with, say, Arctic Monkeys, who have 3 million, and they aren't even big in the States, unlike Arcade Fire.
Major American indie/rock/alternative acts:
The Killers: 7.2million
Black Keys: 2.5 million
Kings of Leon a very depressing 10.8 million
my point being that despite being a contemporary American act, usually quite good for facebook 'likes' they still lag way behind even The Black Keys, who no one see's as a headliner.

Must admit, I'm not a fan of Arcade Fire (Sacrilege, I know). Just a bit boring for me. Saying that, they would be a good booking for the festival, if not myself.
-
Must admit, I don't get the Tool worship on here. They're alright though.
Iron Maiden, Rammstein (Just too awesome to comprehend) and Slipknot.
-
Get UNKLE and/or Chemical Brothers. Also Roger Waters would be awesome.

DM have no crossover appeal. Ask a non fan to name one song and they might stretch to 'Personal Jesus', but that's about it. Part of being a festival headliner is to have songs that even people who don't own an album will know (Example: Blur have Song 2, Parklife, Country House, U2 have bloody endless amounts). .
DM are good, I quite like them, but they're just not headliners.

As for headliners, I reckon that Eavis will somehow manage to convince the Rolling Stones to play, along with Radiohead. The third slot could be filled by anyone, including Kasabian, but also The Stone Roses and don't rule out Arctic Monkeys.
-
Hate to sound like a broken record, but I've seen Kasabian headline festivals twice and smash it both times, even winning over the far more chilled Rockness crowd. As for the Oasis comparison, they've long moved on from just imitating Liam, you listened to their last two records?
-
I think that is also partly down to the general age of the audience though who will probably be a lot more aware of and likely to see Kasabian than The Cure unfortunately.

Daft Punk playing at any festival this year would send this forum into absolute meltdown. I'd bloody love it.

Booking UNKLE would be truly innovative.

I love The Cure, but it was interesting to note that seemingly Kasabian pulled a much bigger crowd than them at both Reading and Leeds.
A lot of people are doubtful that Kasabian could headline Glasto, but having seen them at T in the Park and Rockness in the last 2 years, I can assure you that they are quality headliners, who can work a crowd brilliantly. Lead singers a dick mind, but they're a good band.

I agree that the likes of TDCC and the Maccabees just dont have any crossover appeal for non fans (I like them both by the way). Mumford and Sons are nailed on to headline one day, same with Florence. The only name mentioned so far by anyone that really excited me was Biffy Clyro.
I expect we'll see far more repeat bookings in future, Coldplay and Radiohead in particular will play every 4 years or so.

I can take it, I thought the 'Wow' factor was better than the 'X Factor' though, so it could have been even worse
-
Its a widely acknowledged fact that festivals increasingly rely on heritage acts to provide the 'Wow' factor to their line ups. In 5 years time, however, this will simply not be possible (Dead, retired, Bob Dylan). So what current acts, who aren't already headline level (Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Radiohead etc.) do we think will make the step up?
At the moment I'd say Florence and the Machine are the most obvious one, maybe the Black Keys too? Any other suggestions?

As a side note, Daft Punk have over 7 million fans, benefiting from being big all over the world. Thats about the same as Gorillaz, which surprised me by having 6 million more fans than 'Blur'.
