  1. Yeah okay a bit of an overstatement. It is good though.

It's more akin to 'Don't let me down,' although clearly not as good as that either!

They've moved on, and it's obvious that whilst they're never going to trouble the charts again, they are a bunch of serious musicians who dig soul music. In Kev they've a proper singer who has it running through his veins; he's not plastic like Adele or Joss Stone, or some other Asda price 'soul' star. Dexys is his vision and it's his single-mindedness for which I will always admire him.

One would imagine the idea of performing 'Soul Rebels' or 'Too-rye -aye' all the way through would make him want to give it all up. Pastiche.

It's been widely billed that they are only together and playing the odd show to air these recent songs. The album works as a piece of music, and coupled with the film (Nowhere is home) shows where 'Dexys' are at today. Not a retro act but current and still working for it.

  2. It was great once inside! The queue was horrific, dangerous and so badly managed it was untrue.

DM played a re-edit of Hot Stuff at the start and that set the tone for the rest of his set.....deep house and disco all the way. At the end he was jumping around with his shirt off.

Left, (acrylic) moustache still in place and headed for Seth Troxler at the Beat Hotel.

Some great DJ sets over the weekend.

  3. A few:

New York Brass Band on Wednesday evening (Rocket Lounge?) - Take on me had the whole tent singing....

David Morales dropping Your Love at NYC Downlow on Thursday....

Dexys playing The Waltz near the end of their set at the Acoustic.

Bez jumping on the DJ platform in his own Acid House and hugging my mate as 808 launched into Higher State.

  4. Forecasting the weather is a lot like making love to a beautiful woman: First you've got to check whether she's fair or stormy; both conditions are possible and changes may occur suddenly and without warning. Then see whether you need protection; as a rule, never leave home without. When you're done, you can simply toss your hat aside, safe in the knowledge that it's kept you from even worse conditions, and, more importantly, those unwanted lows.

  5. Taken this evening about 5 mins ago by daughter and sent to my phone.

Had a bloody nightmare today, spent 9 hours in Taunton Hospital with suspected appendicitis, home now , loads of antibiotics and got to go back for 8.00 am tomorrow........ Doc says it might wait/subside with antibiotics. Still loads of stuff to do for Pilton, supposed to be pulling on on Saturday. :(

  6. On the Sunday evening of 2007 my brain kind of imploded. I realised I needed to eat for the first time that festival and then get back to my tent, lest I be seen sobbing in public. I managed to get food and bring it back to the tent where I ate it like it was my last meal on earth. It was kind of OK while I was eating. By OK I mean I was riddled with anxiety but had the food to concentrate my thoughts on. Once the food had gone the demons returned. I peered over the edge that night. I reckon one more step and I'd not be the sane, well adjusted person I am now.

  7. She is on terrific form, and her band!

Saw her at Wilton's Music Hall on Thursday and another set at G is high on my list this year.

  8. Well they were great last summer at the roundhouse...a version of Johnny Thunders 'can't wrap your arms around a memory' was stunning.

Oh, and attitude. She invented it.

  9. So, new black tent. Rock and roll and all that, except the Mrs wants to add the odd daubing in luminous paint to aide my late night stumblings.

How helpful it'll be when I'm quizzing teenagers as to whether they've seen a huge glow in the dark cock and balls is anyone's guess.....

  10. Saw Horace Andy at the Jazz Cafe in Camden last night. He was in fine vocal form, and his backing band Dub Asante went down very well. He ended with Hymn from the big wheel and said , 'we're touring throughout June and July, and if you're going to Glastonbury you'll see us there.'

    One Love
