Quick update...the one I wanted didn't arrive! Mr E-bay man has been very nice about refunding but I've had a right chuffin' performance trying to get an alternative (at work Monday and going down to you know where on Tuesday)
I now have in my proud possession a Coleman Xtreme 50QT thanks to a lovely salesman in a real shop, and I've had great fun seeing how much I can fit in it.....loads, which all be lovely and cold for the whole 6 days!!!

ok, so not so much windbreaks, just people fencing themselves in.
Can't say i really get the hate towards it though, windbreak or as you so nicely put it, kick in the face / chuck piss on people. I know which offends me more!

Hi Jen,
I'm taking my 1966 splitty (3rd year running) what side are you camping on?? we're West side! mines red and cream with chrome Fuch's. come over and say hi if you're passing.
the essentials I always have in the back of the van are:
duct tape.
flexible gardening wire.
pull ties.
hose clips.
some 20amp wire & terminals.
FAN BELT
rubber gloves (coz I like the feel!)
can of easy start
can of WD 40
can of tire weld
FIRE EXTINGUISHER
set of metric spanners,
set of screwdrivers + one of those 12" long big ones (good for prying things apart)
good jack + brace
hammer
stanley knife
long and short nose pliers
pair of grips
I always carry one of those jump start units (from Halfords)
apart from that your in the hands of the gods!!

Be prepared for a bit of a backlash on here. Windbreaks are something of a no no in the campsites in a lot of people's opinion.

Pretty sure all you need to do is lick / sponge the paper and stick it on your screen. Kinda like an envelope

If you have a box of beer (15/18 cans) instead of crate of beer (24 tray with plastic wrap) you can do the following which works pretty well.
1) drink a few cans of beer to make some space
2) get some newspaper
3) drink another can and maybe take a few out
4) stuff newspaper into box
5) put cans back into box
6) soak the whole think in a litre or 2 of cold water
7) try to keep in shadey place
Doesnt keep them ice cold but better than nothing and most likely better than a cool box thats meant to run off 12v. Helps if they're cold to start with as well
or if you're lazy, just stick em under your groundsheet / steel some ice from stonecircle

Has this genuinely worked? Its just I drink a lot of lager & cider and need to lost about 1.5 stone in weight, but I cant bear to stop drinking altogether.
-
Having lost a stone before christmas then putting it all back on in 2 weeks I'm back to having lost just over a stone again so all good. Another half stone and I'll be happy!
Switching from drinking beers at the weekend to mostly drinking vody and diet coke seems to have made a lot of difference, I can't vouch for it being any more healthy mind, just less calorific!

If you're in a campervan on a campsite with it set up for sleeping then 99/100 you'll be fine if you've had drinks although you could theoretically be nicked. If you've pulled over next to a road, planning to have a nights kip and decide to have too many beers you can easily get in trouble if the police see you.
If you've driven to the pub, had lots of booze then go to your car to get your coat you can still done done for being drunk in charge. Same as if you go to get something out of your car when its parked outside your house.
All you can do is make the van appear as though it is not going to be going anywhere in the near future by closing curtains, putting awning up, clamp / wedge the wheels etc. if you're really worried, get a separate key for the ignition and doors then leave the ignition key in the lock ups for the festival. That way you can pretty much prove that there is no intention to drive it.

Hmm last year between 2 of us I think we spend about £300 over the weekend but we did eat fairly well, including an amazing meal at that restaurant in a bus thing.
This year god only knows how much its going to cost us, we'll be going in our 1965 VW camper we bought a few months back so we're expecting massive fuel costs (driving down from Leeds) and the inevitable large garage bill when it breaks down :angry

how are people doing? I'm now 9lbs lighter than I was when I started this so going well. Plenty of cycling, some running and some crosstrainer stints along with cutting out beer and junk food in the week seems to be working well.
Found this over the weekend which I found interesting and is all about when to eat etc.

15st 2 down to 14st 8 so far although it is friday so will undoubtedly fall off the health (and booze) wagon shortly and expect to go up a bit before its finished. Trying to stick to drinking only once a week on either friday or saturday is a pain in the ass. Beer on a friday evening is almost essential after a tough week and saturdays were designed for having a few drinks!

Gave this tip before. Put them underneath your tent. The black lining keeps them cool even in hot weather. No need for an ice box.
-
Take a cold crate of beer that is all cardboard - box rather than tray if that makes sense. Once at your site, drink a few cans then soak the box in water. Find some newspaper, soak that in water as well and stuff as much as you in and around the cans. store in the shade directly on the grass / mud.
It won't keep them ice cold on a really hot day but it will keep them cool and if its not a really hot day they'll be cold enough for sure.

Thanks for the lowdown amfy regarding the achilles tendon injury.
I am definately going to rest my foot from running for a while to give it chance to recover. 6 weeks seems a long time but may be necessary as I cannot see me doing the cornflake box routine at the moment; although I can understand the principle as to why it would work. (How long does this 'treatment' go on for btw?)
I am going to do more research on this subject of leg/foot injuries and try to get some regular exercises going to improve my leg/foot tendons and muscles as they are obviously weak at the moment esp as I didn't push too hard today.
May look into swimming - is brisk walking out too btw?
Oh well back to the drawing board. Thanks again for your help though.

-
Oh dear, badly fallen off the wagon this weekend, currys and beer.
Oh well, still got time
-
Did another 30 minute training run/walk today and achilles tendon problem seems to have gone away for now.
Had a day off yesterday to give foot extra time to recover, which seems to have worked.
Followed lots of helpful advice on doing stretches and other excercises before and esp. after the running, which seems to have helped me. At this rate I may be a 'proper' runner one day and be fit as well (one can hope anyway ...).
I was told about checking my BMI (Body Mass Index) and found I am just into the 'overweight' category, which is first time in life I have every considered myself overweight.
Alas the pounds have silently accumulated around my waist over last few years so I need to shift that too ready for next years Glasto. Will have to start watching what I eat and cut back on some accustomed treats I think..
Going have to start watching those calories....
Anyway has anyone else taken up running recently or is it just me who is crazy enough to start just before the Winter begins?

There was some chat in this thread (/index.php?showtopic=133188">http://www.efestivals.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=133188) about space on the thursday which may help.
If you have a CV ticket then there should be room, but I wouldn't expect it to be in a prime position. It may be worth trying for the west CV field as its new this year although couldn't say for sure.

love love love - saw them at Reading and even though the crowd was shite i jumped about like a nutter... they are brilliant!
-
well I'm about 6lb's lighter than I was on tuesday last week although my weight seems to jump about lots most of the time. I've cut out crisps / chocolate at work and started back on porridge again in the mornings. I'm also done a lot more cycling and even blown the dust off the cross trainer. My weight jumps about quite a lot anyway though so difficult to tell if what I'm doing is making any difference or not!
-
I definitely prefer to be at the top of a grassy hill in my van than on a flat field so opted for east. I've never had a problem with queues either although I never try to get in particularly early or go back to the van until very late.
-
I like the idea of it being set in a period from the past rather than the future
How about the Roman era, or maybe whitechapel when Jack the Ripper was around (minus the murders)
Flavoured Vodka - not to late!

doesn't this involve burning off a fair bit of alcohol?
