Everyone with their bee in their bonnet about the Shikari Soundsystem thing. Chill. Biffy: the essential 'rock' act in the UK (the world ) are headlining the same day.
Look at the rest of that stage's lineup.
Other than them at the top it's quality. ASIWYFA are one of THE best bands at the moment, have produced one of the albums of 2013 so far and if you haven't heard them, sort it out.
Funeral for A Friend- classic, had a bit of a hardcore revival of late as well, smashing it live.
Gallows- everyones already made up their mind but still.
Arcane Roots- another phenomenal band and one for the future, Biffy approved, sound a bit like The Mars Volta at times Biffy at others, again, check them out if you haven't.
The others, aren't really my cup of tea, but considering Skindred, LTA, Mallory Knox et al. taking up the early mainstage slots seems as though the new organisers have a bit of a thing for modern alternative rock music.
I think this is a really promising addition and bodes well for the future of the festival. Expanding ever further surely as we all want it to?!
Gives us more than just 2 days of the lock up. With bands that are relatively similar. Also does anyone know if The Dillinger Escape Plan are still backlisted from the fest for the poo throwing incident? Would be a quality addition to the Lock up or Rock stage?!

The new Paramore album is actually really impressive. Pleasantly shocked and surprised.
Just going to put that out there. Definitely proven they have a serious future and like it or not chances are it's at Reading & Leeds... headlining.

I just don't understand the hype for Glastonbury.
some quality bookings dotted about: (Nick Cave, Portishead, Public Enemy in particular) but other than Rolling Stones and the aforementioned nothing you couldn't have seen plenty of times in the past year or two. Nothing of real significance, not many notable exclusives.
Comparing the two. First time headliner Biffy Vs. Mumford . Biffy win hands down for depth of catalogue.
Nine Inch Nails, System of A Down Vs. Portishead and Nick Cave. clearly shows the difference in the festivals but both stand up against each other and in a festival environment surely NIN/ SOAD win.
First year since I can remember that Glasto lineup has been that dissapointing.

AFI is a good shout. Alkaline Trio surely a cert. Will be interested to see where it goes over the course of three days, would be good to see young up and coming UK bands like Gnarwolves, Vales etc.

That's a huge bump for Frank Turner to be honest, has he really shot up that much over the last 2 years?
ALSO WHERE'S ENTER SHIKARI, CRYSTAL CASTLES, THE JOY FORMIDABLE AND PULLED APART BY HORSES, I WANT MY MONEY BACK

C & S apparently put on a great show at Download

City and Colour just posted a new song as well, it's brilliant and may I add, C&C is a quality booking for a mid lineup spot. I'm sure will be a big draw. Fingers crossed on a sunny main stage!

Inevitably going to split opinion with a lineup like that.
I'd be way more excited about Green Day if I hadn't seen them last year :/
even so Nine Inch Nails, Brand New are incredible additions, Editors, City and Colour and Twin Atlantic as well.
Whether you like them or not there are several very big acts in that announcement.
Asap Rocky, top of the hip hop game at the moment sold out dates at Brixton later in the year and as much as I don't care for Skrillex he is huge.
The lack of Yeah Yeah Yeahs is quite glaring, I think it's clear the booking strategy was ... we wont have them if they aren't in last weeks NME or an exclusive.

Not sure I'd be particularly enthused with Linkin Park being the third headliner although it does seem quite possible.
Their Soundwave setlist looked pretty tasty though, if they played this would find it hard not to enjoy myself.

Also imo their last album was actually a bit under-rated.

The main reason that Blur aren't a glaringly obvious possibility is that efests have had a quote from inside their camp that they aren't doing any UK festivals. Could be bollocks as it seems odd that they've been active in Europe for two years now and not done a UK festival, but it's why people aren't pushing them harder.
-
I don't see why everyone isn't looking at Blur as a probable headliner.
As it goes they are playing all over the world, including Europe. Obviously the whole 'they played big show outdoors last year' might hint at it being less likely, but still can't see them not doing a UK date this year, have it on an exclusive. Plenty of acts do big shows year after year. Would fit with the other bands headlining,
Eminem Biffy Blur
seems like a solid set of headliners diversity. Big undercard, also surely Blur sells tickets.
On another note Kendrick Lamar playing V. Can't see why he wouldn't play Reading weekend after, if he's over here, not an exclusive as he's doing Wireless?! Would be a quality booking Good Kid Mad City one of the best hip hop albums in years.
-
Stereoboard say FOB to reunite today, and Zane Lowe said he has an interview with 'some old friends that we haven't seen for a while.' Coincidence?
-
If Jurassic 5 are at Reading i'm sold.
Massive draw, one of the most popular hip-hop acts of the early '00s and one of the best.
Really hope this whole 1xtra stage brings some proper hip hop to Reading not just U.K. grime.

I think SOAD is a good shout, I reckon if they did play they would headline the Friday at Reading. Deftones would fit very nicely 3rd down too. Black Sabbath just doesn't come accross as a band R&L would book (I know they booked Guns n' Roses). Plus after doing Download last year I can't see them drawing as many fans as SOAD would. A combination of Eminem & SOAD would be very appealing to some people. Then you have Biffy who are making the jump and are a British band so I think it fits rather well.

A friend saw Eminem a couple of weeks ago when he performed at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Said he was on top form, really impressive show, looked like he cared and played a varied setlist spanning across his years. Encouraging from that point of view. I'm sure he'll put on a top show.
It's odd that the younger Reading demographic who see Eminem as a pop act are kicking up a shit. It's the older lot who think its a good booking. Eminem was the biggest act in the world once and although not quite that any more he is still a massive act.
Watch The Throne would have been a monumental booking but why would they ever play, they're doing other things the album has been and gone. Snoop and Dre- uninspired, happened at Coachella, one year later, no need for a rehash.
Would love to see Sabbath, Eminem and Blur. or Biffy Eminem and Blur or some combination. Surely that < would be a quintessential Reading set of headliners, diversity.

Anyone know what the general liklehood of bands doing Bilbao BBK and Beni in the same summer are?!?
-
Two Door Cinema Club announced for Optimus Alive.
Would not be at all suprised if they weren't the Thursday night headliners.
Also HIGHLY doubt Muse would play. Considering the amount of stage gear tech, lighting, stupid ott shit, Beni's size probably couldn't accomodate.
Radiohead more likely but again, can't see it happening.
Kings of Leon & Killers would be the obvious headliners.
Personally would love to see something a little different with last headliner, Daft Punk would be incredible. Again it is a long shot, but with new music on the horizon could be a possibility.
Really glad that it's going ahead again!

Nobody has mentioned Touche Amore yet. INCREDIBLE BOOKING. They produced one of the best sets i have ever seen at Hevy last year , check this vid for proof
. Parting the Seas one of my top albums of 2011 as well, if you haven't heard it check it out. R+L pulled it out the bag for depth in Lock Up this year. Gon' be some clashes. -
Really hope refused are at reading.
Do you think crosses(chino of deftones side project free ep on their site) could be added somewhere maybe NME or FR stage. Secondly How To Destroy angels as they've got a new album out
-
I really wish Neil would let us know what information he got that made him take them off the rumour page.
TBH trust in Neil not to just do that because DL said exclusive: Soni did before and he kept it, maybe DL really HAVE got the exclusivity. I fucking hope not though. His info may also be in regards to a possible UK show?
-
Downloads website is claiming they're a UK Exclusive.
"Set to show crowds the shape of punk to come, Swedish band Refused will make their exclusive UK festival appearance at Download. Earlier this year, the band announced their long awaited reunion - this is one comeback show you do NOT want to miss!"

BBC confirmed it is cancelled. http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/17536642

yeah, cos they always have great stuff to tell everyone, such as The Cure playing the tent at R/L this year.
One day you might wake up to the fact that they're run by a lying pathetic moron who will kill his grannie to get your attention, and then serve her up up to you labelled as prime burger.
