  1. Anyone who is a huge sabbath fan would have seen them at DL last year, but the band would still be charging extortionate fees, which is going to have an effect on the rest of the lineup.

Also, to attract the younger crowd it is likely the rest of the lineup will be more pop/indie based to compensate for such an irrelevant headliner.

  2. Don't like the new logo at all. As someone said it seems a shame to change from the old one, when it was starting to become iconic, to such a bland new design.

Was disappointed by the red stage as well, but got use to it towards the end.

Also, what happened to the new screens we were promised for the main stage? looked pretty similar to the old ones to me.

  3. Hi There,

So I haven't got anything planned for tonight, so was considering going up to London with a mate to watch Feeder. Sorry if this topic has already been covered but I couldn't find it anywhere.

Anyone know if it going to be a proper gig? or just Feeder making an appearance to play just a couple of songs?

Also what time is it meant to end? according to the BT london live website it starts at 21:40 but it gives no idea of what time it is suppose to go on until? Need to plan to get the train home afterwards.

Did anyone go to the Enemy gig last night? was it very busy? what time do people reckon we will have to arrive at hyde park to get an okay-ish spot/guaranteed entry?

    Cheers for any help.

  4. I think if Biffy were to headline they would put on an averagely good set, whereas if Bloc party were to do it, they would put on an exceedingly good show.

Although I'm a bloc party fan so would say that.

It all depends on bloc party's next album, if its a pop/dance album then I wouldn't want them to headline. However if its more like silent alarm and as popular, I would be all over it.

Wouldn't complain with either band. However if Bloc were to headliner, they would need 2 other strong headliners alongside them.

Agree with what JusticeForceDave said also, couldn't see them headlining any other major UK festival. Would love for them to be given the chance to do reading though.

  5. I don't really see how a beer run could work. You would have to transport a huge amount for it to be cost effective. And (no offence) I don't think I'd trust someone with my money in advance to get my beer.

Also you would have the legal problem, that it might be seen as selling on alcohol without a license/tax.

Only extra way I could see for you to make money would be trying to advertise to offer lifts to/from the festival in advance, so people don't have to walk/carry there stuff or have to queue for parking. But correct me if I'm wrong, I think you can only accept lifts from the designated cab rank at the festival? So can't really arrange to pick anyone up.

Other than that the only other thing I can advice is trying to pick up lifts from the tesco car parks during the morning/afternoon. I would happily pay for a taxi from there to help get my beer/food back to the campsite.

Sorry I'm not much help :(

  6. There is a possibility that someone who is contemplating getting a ticket for R&L wins one for Hackeney weekend and decides that because they've now seen Kasabian, The Maccabees, Enter Shikari, etc. that they won't bother with R&L, but the likelihood or number of tickets that would be affected would be so minor that it wouldn't be worth the money or effort trying to stop R&L bands playing.

On flip side as Neil said there may be cases of people who see these bands at Hackney weekend, realise that the setting and set lengths would be better at a festival and decide to buy a ticket on the back of it.

Again I'm not sure it would be a major amount but the two probably cancel each other out, which is why FR consider it not worth worrying about competition-wise.

  7. Cheers guys, didn’t expect so many replies! Feeling a lot more confident about going on my own, ticket bought :) Don’t want to miss out for no reason.

Its fine. I didn't mind it at all. The only odd thing is the bit before the band or between support acts when you don't have anyone to talk to, but for most gigs I'm queuing at the bar during this bit anyway. Once the music starts then who gives a shit anyway? As long as its good you'll be concentrating on the band

I prefer going to gigs with people as its nice to share the experience and have a laugh/dance with your mates, but at the end of the day you go to see the band.

(I actually found myself getting more wrecked at gigs on my own because if you don't have someone to talk to, you might as well make your mind busy)

  8. What's everyone's thoughts on going to a gig on your own?

I had to miss The Offspring at reading last year, and am still a bit sour about it. So seeing as tickets go on sale for their shepherd's bush gig tomorrow, I really want to go... However none of my friends are interested. So thinking about going to the gig, but it would be my first time going to a gig with no one else.

So has anyone on here gone to gigs on there own? Is it weird going in / waiting for the band with no one else? I know its a bit lame, but I figure once the gig starts and the crowd moves it should be fine.

Any advice for going on your own?

p.s. Would you expect the offspring shepherds bush gigs to sell out? I'm considerring buying 2 tickets and testing out the scarlet mist scarlet mate feature. But would need to be able to sell the ticket if no one wanted to do it.

  9. Yeah I said this before the NME announcement.

It would be odd for them to be advertised on the festival sites if they're not playing. FR won't be getting that much money just for promoting a gig (I think its only one gig they are promoting, but haven't checked so correct me if I'm wrong).

And as they're playing an FR gig, it means FR must at least be in contact with them.

I'm going to their Shepherd's Bush gig, so not too bothered if they playing. I would happily miss part of The Cure/The Macabees/Kasabian/ATDI to see them again though, they're a great live band.

They'd be a strong FR headliner, that's for sure.

  10. Coachella style Kurt Cobain Hologram???

I know this wont happen, but it raises the point that it might happen in the future. And the prospect of all dead/old rock stars performing or being a special guest at future concerts. Kurt would probably have hated the idea, however when you think the Tupac hologram is quite controversial with rap fans, its not really that much different with Kurt Cobain.

  11. Don't know if this has already been said... but the subways shepherds bush gig is being promoted by Festival Republic, and its not sold out yet. Could be that they're the 3rd band on the Saturday NME, and FR haven't announced it due to not wanting it to affect the gig sales.

I would have thought with their slight decline in popularity, 3rd NME would be about right for the subways now.

  12. Surprised you have the killers as unlikely not maybe. Didn't they say they were hoping to do some UK festivals this year?

Also I think it would look better if you listed them (in their sub-category's) in terms of size e.g. bloc party and slipknot above the likes of the rancid and koRn.

And you could add tones of bands to the likely, maybe and unlikely lists - The Who, Van Halen, Guns 'n' Roses, pixies, Bullet for my Valentine, SOAD, Feeder, Lost Prophets, The All American Rejects, At The Drive-in, Enter Shikari, Paramore, The Racounteurs, You Me At Six and Billy Talent to name but a few.

If you wanted to put in loads of effort, you could split the 'not going to happen' list into two - 'confirmed not attending' and 'Highly Unlikely'.
