  1. I'm going to say something like:

    Fri:

    Paramore

    You Me At Six

    A Day to Remember

    + Black Veil Brides somewhere

    Sat:

    Foo Fighters

    Slash

    Mastodon

    Sun:

    Bon Jovi

Motley Crue (Last UK show or something like that)

    Janes Addiction

  2. My friends and I had an awesome time, I would say that approx. 50,000 sounds and looked about right, with a big chunk of day tickets shifted for the Linkin Park day, what with it being a Saturday and all. As usual, it was a really good friendly crowd, which you don't get at a lot of other festivals.

The arena didn't seem any smaller than normal but it was really easy to get from place to place as it wasn't so rammed. I hardly queued for anything the whole weekend.

In terms of the line up, we were running all over the place trying to watch all the bands we wanted to see, there was plenty of quality on offer. Rob Zombie was a bit of a let down as there was zero stage show when compared to 2011, maybe only Avenged were allowed pyro etc. that day so their headline set wasn't compromised.

The supposed 'don't encourage circle pits, crowd surfing and moshing' by live nation was a bit lame so was good to see people still going for it and 'dancing responsibly'. Just live nation passing the blame buck if anything did happen I guess.

One last point, without going into the politics of it, why book Steel Panther and then refuse to show boobs on the screens?

  3. I'm sad to see Sonisphere bite the dust this year, having attended in 2011 and thinking it was a great festival. But the odds were stacked quite heavily against them this year. They announced far too late after Download and the headliners and undercard just weren't up to scratch. Hopefully it will be back next year.

  4. I would say Billy are probably now big enough to do 4th from top. I've got slim hopes of Enter Shikari and A Day to Remember filling up the main stage but it doesn't look like there are any prominent slots left for them.

I think Every Time I Die could realistically play Download this year. Think they have US dates over Soni weekend.

Either way the line up is banging this year :)

  5. Cracking line up this year. Gutted about lack of Enter Kari but you can't have it all. The Megadeth camp have leaked that Godsmack and Black Veil Brides are playing the main stage on Sunday.

I know sonisphere is probably going to pull something special out of the bag (korn+skrillex, Axel and friends (ok not so special), Refused, At the Drive In, Sikth, etc) but really happy I have a Download ticket.

    Boom!

  6. That was easily one of the best festival experiences I have attended to date. I have previously been to Reading, Leeds, Download and Rock am Ring and Sonisphere was way up there in terms of layout, atmosphere, camping, general behaviour and entertainment. Saw a heck of a lot of awesome bands to boot! Highlights included Metallica, Biffy, Slipknot, Parkway Drive, Weezer, Limp Bizkit and Gallows.

Would definitely go back next year if the line up is decent but saying that there is nothing wrong with Download at the moment either. We're spoilt for choice!

  7. OK just clarification, what time does the camp site/entrance to the festival actually open on the Thursday? It says gates 3pm on the website. Is that for the camp site or the bohemia bit? Is opening as late as 3pm not going to cause a massive backlog of people and cars?

  8. This is a resoundingly mediocre festival line up, so many boring/obvious repeat bookings! Glad I didn't get Vodafone VIP tickets in the end. There is usually enough at Reading to keep me interested but going on this first announcement, it is very slim pickings indeed. There is nothing on there that makes me go 'wow'! I would like to see The Strokes but I can hold out for the inevitable UK tour. I do like other stuff on there (e.g. Deftones, Rise Against, Taking Back Sunday, Enter Shikari, Muse, Jimmy Eat World) but I have seen most of these recently and the ones I haven't will tour the UK at some point 2011 no doubt. £200+ for that line up is way too much, shame.

  9. Arrrghhh! 4 day weekend tickets appear to be sold out on see tickets! I have already paid for the deposit, I feel like I have been conned! Looks like 4 days tickets are still available elsewhere? What the hell is going on??

  11. Personally, Sonisphere is winning hands down this year so far. I'm bored of Linkin Park now, and their new album is the worst thing I have ever heard. I find System really boring (yes controversial, I know) and neither are a patch on Slipknot live, who always entertain no matter how many times you see them. Biffy are an exciting band to watch, they might end up doing a lostprophets re Download 2008 but it is worth taking the risk on them. Unless Download adds some steller smaller bands (don't care much for Rob Zombie and saw A7X recently), Sonisphere is the one of me this year. Unless of course Reading pulls it out the bag but that is turning to the indie world again. The Strokes are pretty good though...

  12. So potential headliners for UK 'rock' festivals next year that are relevant include:

    Soundgarden

    Avenged Sevenfold (Second Stage)

    Ozzy

Linkin Park (still big enough? New album was complete crap)

Foo Fighters (Doing own shows, could play others)

Red Hot Chili Peppers (V Festival?)

Tool (Sonisphere would want them most likely)

    Muse (are they 'Download' enough?)

    Iron Maiden

    QOTSA (Big Enough?)

    Rob Zombie (Second Stage)

    Korn (Sonisphere Under 'Tallica)

My Chemical Romance (Doubt Download would be risking them again, Prob Reading/Leeds)

    Metallica (Only do Sonisphere)

Stone Sour (Second Stage at Sonisphere)

    Bon Jovi (Doing Own Tour)

    The Strokes (Reading/Leeds or V)

Green Day (Reading? Looks like it was set up for them to headline this year but it didn't come off for some reason)

  13. I reckons you could be havin some of these lovelies in that field next June:

    A Perfect Circle

    Avenged Sevenfold

    Bring Me The Haircuts

    Soundgarden

    Stone Sour (maybe Sonisphere)

    Bowling for Soup

    Alter Bridge

    Rob Zombie

    Skindred

    Black Stone Cherry

    Ozzy (Sonisphere?)

    Gallows

Sonisphere will have the likes of Korn, Stone Sour, Tool, Disturbed, Halestorm and possibly the return of 'Tallica.
