  1. Hey, I'm a Bestival virgin, and I'm also going on my own now due to a couple of mates bailing out over something trivial like moving to New Zealand or something.

Anyone else going it alone and want to do a meetup? Not asking for a crew to spend the weekend following like a sheep, just come back from Boomtown where I knew three separate groups of people and still spent the majority of the weekend doing my own thing.

Be nice to have some peeps to catch up with occasionally with, maybe camp with, share a smoke at the end of the night with etc though? Anyone up for that?

  2. Did all their sound insulation and barriers and stuff work? Whats the verdict?

Thought the sound on Banghai Palace was abysmally quiet during the first artist I saw there which was Squarepusher. It was quiet enough that I was able to have a conversation with my mate during the set, and we weren't that far back, in front of the mixing desk. Then it seemed to be ok again for Noisia on Saturday (although I was considerably more wasted) and I thought it might have been a one off. But then yesterday afternoon it was awful again for the old-school. Evenson Allen was getting really shitty about it to the sound engineer over and over (although I've also heard him do that at raves where it's been fine, to be fair). Didn't even bother going to Goldie b2b Dillinja last night and went to Benny Page instead, which totally kicked off - all the jungle classics. Fat soundsystem in there too.

Anyway, here is a random selection of photos I took. None of the best things I saw because if I was dancing, I wasn't photographing :D

  3. Looks like it's going to be torrential rain from about 10am 'til 1pm tomorrow and not too bad the rest of the weekend. I was planning to get to Winchester for about 10am in the hope that this would mean I don't have to queue for ages, either for the shuttle bus from the station or to get in to the site either. Is this a good idea or will everyone be thinking the same resulting in this being the busiest time? This also probably means I'll be doing the majority of my queueing during the wettest part of the day. Don't want to start the weekend with everything soaked though (backpack is supposed to be waterproof but I dunno how much I trust it!), reckon I should wait a bit and go down later?

I quite like getting to festivals early so I can do a bit of a tour of the site before it gets too hectic and get my bearings, will there be stuff going on on Thursday afternoon once I'm all set up or will it be a ghost town?

I wish the police could see that sending a message like this actually does more harm than good. Rather than taking pills they have tested at home beforehand and know to be clean, people may now be tempted to buy unknown drugs from a stranger onsite instead, not having a clue what they are getting.

Of course, the message from the police would be "don't do anything at all" but since everyone knows that isn't going to happen, the least they could do is try to make what does go on as safe as possible, to minimise the chances of further deaths.

  5. 32, but I have the body of someone 3x that age thanks to all the bowel surgeries ;)

That's in a very good spot at the top of the hill - the down slope is left to right. The track that runs through old town camping into psy-forest camping is in the 'valley' and goes up again the other side.

Nice, so there's a chance I might not wake up to find my tent underwater then! :P

Mind you, I survived "The Great Flood" of Glastonbury 2005, was camped about half way up Pennards and there were 6' wide rivers running either side of my tent, with water forceful enough to have washed away all the tents either side of me. I kinda feel like if I can survive that, I can survive anything...

  6. Yowch, that's not looking great. Might have to rethink my clothes packing choices when I get home tonight!

I have a reserved camping ticket (because I am old, and have a stoma, so slightly nicer toilets and a bit more space would be good (these things are possibly wishful thinking heh). It looks like it's on the side of the Old Town camping from the map. I read the site is on a hill, is that at the top or the bottom? If it's going to be super wet, I'm hoping it's at the top.

Incidentally, has anyone else used the reserved camping before and know how it works in general?

  7. Heh, my post probably sounded like I thought you were an official source because I was lazy and just copied the body of the email I sent to the Boomtown contact address (fixed it a bit now ;) ). Posted it here too because I'm not expecting a prompt response there! ;)

Yeah, was just hoping some people who'd been before would know for sure whether that had been a thing in the past or not really. Cheers! :)

Thought I posted another reply about this but perhaps not. Anyway, Boomtown replied to my email and said a small stove is fine :D

  9. Hi, I have a question regarding whether I can bring a small camping stove with me. The website says:

"If you have a small camping stove with you, please make sure you use this in outside areas only. When changing gas cylinders, ensure gas tap is in the ‘off’ position, otherwise the gas will ignite when the cylinder is pierced and you could get badly burned."

But their most recent email says:

"Please don't have any open flames, campfires, stoves or BBQs anywhere on site."

I've already purchased all my festival food and can't really afford to eat vendor food all weekend. so if my camping stove gets confiscated at the gate I'm going to be kinda screwed :/
