It's great to read others' views, and to learn what I missed.
It certainly felt a lot more crowded this year, and perhaps the new camping arrangement gives some credence to that, as did longer queues and generally quite full stages.
Highlights
- Three top quality headline acts, each with a show and personnel to do justice to their slots.
- Cinema tent. Very nice set-up this time. Well done to the chap running it. Particularly enjoyed Holy Mountain!
Lowlights
- Horrible timing clash of Efterklang and David Byrne.
- The undercard didn't thrill me at all. Not so many I wanted to see in advance and only a few that I really appreciated upon hearing. (have a look at 2012 listing for comparison).
- Ticket Trust screwing up with my ticket. Thankfully the EOTR box office came to the rescue.
In summary - My third time, and least loved with easily the weakest undercard, and getting discernibly more crowded.
Going next year? - I'll wait for the line-up announcements. I may take a friend's suggestion and go to WOMAD instead.
-
Wow, Neville, I had no idea about that. I sent my ticket to them thinking it would be resold at face value. And now, less than a week away, still no news from them on a sale.
Very disappointing. I feel I've been misled. I'll be speaking to them tomorrow to get my ticket back.
-
I've sent my ticket to Ticket Trust, and am wondering whether I've just wasted £165 when I could have resold in other area. Let's see what the next days bring.

Alabama Shakes did at least 3 secret sets. I thought they were following me at one point!
The Piano in the woods is hanging around if you have no other plans. You never know who might turn up, or you may just have some nice conversations with others.
The Tipi after hours seems to always have something going one. The Sunday night last year was a crazy jam and a lot of fun.

Riverlodge, I have no intention of getting into an argument with you on this, but in answer to your blunt question, I make my living from my own website/application so for me the privacy of clients is sacrosanct.
My opinion is that the webmaster here should have avoided at all costs entering the fray, but I guess that's easier said than done in some situations.
I don't see what else there is to be gained from further comments on this thread. Why not let it be now?

I'm disappointed to come across a thread like this, but many of us are are getting close to two decades of forum postings and we learn through experience that (as Churchill apparently said) "jaw jaw is better than war war", and I support eFestival's policy of keeping threads open. Deletions and locked threads are a recipe for failure. There will be casualties, people will be lost. Flamers inevitably come to self-inflicted grief, the angry ones storm out, the liars and blaggers leave themselves exposed. Meanwhile the rational and sincere take a deep breath and outlast the unpleasantness that can sometimes occur.
So I won't be scurrying off to Facebook! This site is still a great resource for festival-goers, and there's lots of good people here, including (IMO) the webmaster.

I sure hope this is an April Fool's joke! Had me going for a moment.

Continuing to shape up splendidly, possibly my favourite EOTR lineup so far. The Leisure Society certainly add to the feel-good factor. Really engaging live band, perfect for the Garden Stage but I think they'd work well on the Woods Stage too.
-
I guess what this really means EOTR don't think eFestivals is value for money. I don't know what the costs are, but everything has its price.
At least my bookmark for EOTR was unaffected, so it's makes nodifference to me. Like many others (usuallly in the IT profession) I steer clear of Facebook.

I'm disappointed, particularly as I think that NDH could be as successful as EOTR. The location is great! But I appreciate that in business you have to know when to move forward and when to withdraw, and I respect their decision.
Fingers crossed that it will be back. I'd love to see a more Americana lineup.

Sounds good to me.
(Amazed how busy their forum is!)

Bump!
Ironically, EOTR's only no-show was my main 'discovery' thanks to pre-EOTR spotify homework. Interesting to observe quite a few disappointed fans around. The cult following is emerging. I hope he'll turn up at NDH or EOTR next year as he seems such a good match for this kind of festival. Peter's latest album 'http://www.itstartshear.com' is one of my favourites of the year so far.
-
Did anyone see Van Dyke Parks on here? Any good?
-
Roll on to NDH next June. The Welbeck Abbey farm shop/tent was pretty darn fine. With the kitchen demos./tasters as well I'd say NDH is EOTR for foodies.

To Maoster : I believe 'quiet camping' means the further away from noise the quieter it is. i.e. beyond the monument. Not much noise from the entertainments, plenty of space and impeccable neighbours. I was very happy this year, even though it meant being away from the 'happy campers'.
I loved it this year too, although there were fewer must-sees, more have-seens (NDH in June!) and fewer new discoveries. And of course disappointed by the lack of Peter Broderick, who seems to be developing cult following. Hope they try to get him for next time.
Highlights:
Grizzly Bear, totally did the business, and I was happy they played lots from Yellow House rather than Veckatimest. The new songs were pretty good too.
Patrick Watson, great show, making use of the old stage in the garden, and later at the piano in the woods, with a girl playing the violin and getting others to sing various lines. I'm already a fan but I think he picked up plenty more.
Abigail Washburn, what a lovely lady. Very interesting with all this bluegrass and mandarin speaking. Nice bit of clog dancing too with her former band-mate.
The Moulettes, great musicianship, sassy and fun. (Girl riding the bassoon like a witch's broomstick!)
Patti Smith, in the garden and then on stage. Eccentric and at times bizarre, but inspiring.
Lowpoints:
Rather too much Alabama Shakes. Heard her voice without microphone at the piano in the woods and it really isn't all that.
Film tent, damp and unwelcoming with a low screen and poles affection sightlines.
Nothing much new in the art installations.
The food village felt rather too predictable.
But really these are minor gripes in what is still a great festival. Thanks and congratulations to the organisers.

Yes, great job again by Andy Loos, and thanks to the vast majority who took the moment's effort required to leave it as they found it. You can't have a successful festival without a good loo system.
If there was a tip jar for their staff, I'd be happy to throw some coins in.

Having reformed my eating habits in the last year, the lack of my usual amount of fresh fruit was a problem, and I was led into temptation too often. A proper market-style fruit stall selling (i.e. not a smoothie/wheatgrass etc) so I could snack on a banana or apple would be most helpful.
In general I found the food stalls and their prices to be acceptable, not bad nor exceptional.
-
I was furious when Alabama Shakes turned up at the piano on Sunday evening and turfed off Patrick Watson when we were all having a lovely time. 'Who are you?' said one official (of EOTR/Alabama Shakes) as Patrick Watson stepped off the stage. How embarrassing. EOTR should apologise to him.

Although we may be losing an hour of music on Friday and Sunday night we're effectively gaining one with the earlier starts on both of those days. I prefer that on the whole as well - less sitting around in tents waiting for the bands to start.
-
Glad to see the prospect of 20+ degrees , but it's important to note (to self!) the minimum temperatures on the forecasts. 8 degrees means having a decent sleeping bag and possibly blankets if you don't fancy sleeping in ALL your clothes.
Jonathan WIlson on a warm sunny afternoon is a must! I may have to miss the start of Van Dyke Parks.
-
Might just do that. I love pass the parcel... and cake!
-
ElGanzo, thanks for that list. Laid out like that I'd say it's a mighty fine bill of entertainments. For me, plenty of interest on each day, although the acts on Friday do seem awfully familiar and Sunday is perhaps a little lighter.
It has better be warm and sunny for Jonathan Wilson!
-
Very happy to see Patrick Watson. Actually one of my favourite singer/bands, definitely in the baroque pop realm, not afraid to be a little different. A very solid addition to the bill. Hope he gets a good slot.
(The rest will require more spotification).
