  1. This whole theft thing has really got me down. It's so un-EOTR. I'm pretty sure that we can all help iron it out for next year, without having to significantly increase security (at a hefty cost!) or building a Glastonbury style wall (also at a hefty cost!).

There should be some king of neighbourhood watch thing. Everybody should make a point of getting to know all their neighbours if and when they see them. That way they'll know if they see anyone unfamiliar going in their tents that they should report them.

Also, next year people should simply not leave anything valuable in their tents, and maybe put a small padlock on. I always use a padlock at bigger festivals, and really don't like the idea of having to do it at EOTR, but it's an option.

No need for any drastic measures, just a bit more vigilance. I think now it's happened once, we wont see this again at EOTR.

  2. Absolutely agree. I don't want to see too many bigger bands here really. I agree with all those who've said no Mumford & Sons, Band of Horses, etc.

As for who I'd like to see, the list is so long! Top of my list would be:

    The Black Atlantic

    Isbells

    Woods

    Megafaun

    Dry the River

    Owen Pallett

    Espers

    Jason Lytle

    Arms & Legs

    Liam Finn

    The Dutchess and the Duke

and then any of the following...some have been mentioned already or have played EotR before:

Maps & Atlases, AA Bondy, Angus & Julia Stone, Ryan Paul & The Ardent, Tallest Man on Earth, Delta Spirit, Dr Dog, Taxi Taxi, The Boy Least Likely To, Bill Callahan, Banjo or Freakout, Junip, Eels, Blitzen Trapper, The Low Anthem, Bon Iver, David Ford, Avi Buffalo, Daniel Johnston, Antony & the Johnsons, Devendra Banhart, Ganglians, Is Tropical, Fanfarlo, S Carey, Josh Ritter, Kings of Convenience, Laura Gibson, Bony King of Nowhere, Earlimart, Micah P Hinson, A Weather, Unbunny, Pete Greenwood, Throw me the Statue, Sea Wolf, Rose Melberg, Withered Hand, The Morning Benders, Tuung, Timber Timbre, Volcano Choir, The Roots Union, Tobias Ben Jacob

  3. Hi-lights: Boureks from the Moorish, goat curry from the Caribbean, Bhatti Wraps, the rotisserie chicken place, Le Super Royal from Le Grande Boueffe (or whatever it's called).

Everything I ate was pretty great. BUT.......

Pieminister had a distinct lack of the Matador pie. No Babyback ribs! No Scandinavian Kitchen! And no nice place that had the shisha pipes.

  4. Well I thought the tipi was excellent this year. Some great bands, good sound, and plenty of space for most people to get in. Only let down was that during some of the quieter acts the music from the cider bus was a bit overpowering. Nothing against the cider bus playing music, but maybe they could turn it down a bit when quieter acts are playing next door? Not a huge ask. It certainly wont make me buy any less cider.

  5. The theft thing is a real downer. I heard quite a few people at the festival talking about it, I've now read about it on here, and last night on Gideon Coe, 6 Music, someone had texted in saying they had £180 nicked.

Also, my tent and a few others in my group came back to our tents at various times to find the entrance half open, or things possibly in different places. Nothing nicked though. Looks like they must have just been after money towards the end of the festival, making it more difficult to charge them if they got caught.

This must not happen again. No one at EOTR would ever dream of stealing. Just a few more stewards wandering the perimeter at all times, and maybe just checking for wrist bands in the campsite, should put an end to it.

  6. Can't believe no one's mentioned Ben Ottewell!

His two tiny kids spent most of his set dancing around the stage in the tipi. He even let them talk into the mic at one stage! Really lovely stuff.

Then a couple of hours later I saw him walking round with his wife and kids whilst drinking a coffee.

EOTR makes the divide between punter and performer at other festivals just look ridiculous. Music is all about artists connecting with the people who get pleasure from their work, and EOTR is the one festival where this can really happen. Long may it continue.

  7. I grew to kind of like the new location for the cider bus, even if it did make walking round the woods at night with a hot cider a bit harder! Only problem was that the sound often infringed on the tipi. Not always, but sometimes. For example, The Mountains And The Trees was perfect and quiet, whereas all the way through Ben Ottewell there was a loud, irritating beat ruining the atmosphere.

Also, The Local often ended up being swamped by the sound from other places. Olof Arnalds even made a few jokes about how hard it was to concentrate with so much else going on! Not really sure of a way round that though. Maybe a more enclosed tent?

It was a fantastic festival though. Can't wait until next year! Can we please have Band Of Horses, Beirut, Teenage Fanclub, Midlake, Seabear, Beach House and Sun Kil Moon? Please? Thank you.

  8. I'm glad to hear I wasn't the only one who thought The Mountains And The Trees was absolutely lovely. In fact, the tipi was host to some of my best moments this year. Allo Darlin' on the Thursday night - you couldn't help but bounce and smile. Ben Ottewell - a brilliant set, and his kids dancing on the stage for most of the time just highlighted what a wonderful, relaxed family festival EOTR is. The Felice Brothers on Sunday night - never really given them much of my time, and I didn't see them on the Garden stage, but what a great way to finish the festival!! Absolutely rocking, and brilliant the way they got everyone up on stage!

Away from there, I loved Olof Arnalds. Iron & Wine was breathtaking. Phosphorescent, Wilco, Leif Vollebeck and Edwyn Collins were all brilliant too. And what I caught of the Low Anthem was pretty special. Shame I missed most of it (Olof Arnalds was great though).

Highlight of the weekend though was The Wilderness Of Manitoba at the piano stage late on Sunday night. I'm sure anyone who was there will agree that that was one of the most touching experiences of live music they've ever had. EOTR at it's absolute best!

  9. 1. The Wilderness Of Manitoba covering Crosby Stills & Nash's Helplessly Hoping at the piano stage late on Sunday night.

    2. Edwyn Collins doing A Girl Like You. The guitarist was truly brilliant, but I thought Mr Collins was inspirational. A great performance of a great song, by a truly remarkable human being.

    3. Phosphorescent - Los Angeles. Nothing else to say other than how much did that rock?!!

I love to put more than 3. But that would be cheating.
