The only time I drove, I took the advice on here and left the M5 at Junction 22 for Burnham on Sea. Back roads through Mark, Widmore and Glastonbury.  Doesn't really answer your question but if you do take the M5 you might want to consider that.

The first part of this route from J22 is currently closed at Harp Road, Brent Knoll. There is a diversion but tbh by the time you've negotiated it you'd probably be better off going to the next junction and follow A39. Any queuing is usually caused by the ground conditions in the car parks (2016!) so will affect you regardless of which direction you approach from. If you really want Blue car parks I'd come off the M5 at J21 and go Cheddar-Wells-Shepton Mallet. Definitely stay on the M5 though until you're south of Bristol.

@jmarmer - Can we know what it is now the position has been filled? I'm dying to know!

Just an onsite Steward Supervisor role, nothing particularly exciting I'm afraid. Any facial similarity to ME would have been a bonus but not absolutely essential.

Does anyone fit this bill ?

Glasto obsessive, knows the site inside out, physically fit, mature, reasonable, assertive, diplomatic, calm, clear thinker, team player, willing to take responsibility, utterly reliable under stress, committed to making everyone's festival a little bit better, available Tues - Mon, able to meet in Mid Somerset in the next few days.

If you want to make the switch to volunteering this could be your chance, it is absolutely NOT a free ticket. Please think carefully before pm me as I don't want to waste anyone's time.

3x8 hour shifts 1 of which will be a night shift.

Pleased to report that this position is now filled and looking forward to enjoying many future festivals with our new recruit.

As some of you guessed I did word the criteria in as onerous a way as I could, simply to deter any chancers, been caught out in the past and have learned lessons. The type of person I was after was never going to be put off by the description and I have had a number of excellent applications, just really sorry I couldn't help more people.

I do understand that language used on forums can unintentionally provoke reactions but if anyone was put out or annoyed by the tone of the advert then I apologise.

As Billy_Blagg has illustrated in reference to his friend, there are unfortunately people out there who will agree to anything to get a ticket then screw you over without a second thought. This has only ever happened to our team a couple of times and the people involved have always been caught, removed from site and blacklisted. Hence the reason we're very fussy about who we take on.

    Sounds a bit dodgy really...

Either it's paid work or it's a trade of work in exchange for access to the festival.

And if it's not dodgy why can't you answer the questions in public?

It's quite simple really, it's a volunteer role for someone who fits the criteria I outlined. I don't want to turn it into a free for all so prefer to discuss in private. I want someone who wants the role for it's own sake not just for an easy way in.

Not for me , but providing the person does the shifts etc, is there a ticket available? Your post doesn;t make that clear and says 'not a free ticket' . but I presume by asking that you need some assistance and you have a workers/volunterr ticket available for that person ?

Apologies I thought I'd made that clear, yes one opportunity available for someone who fits the criteria fully and who wants to make a contribution to the festival. This role is not about 'doing shifts' , applicants need to be aware that there is no hiding place on this one. If you just want a way in I would respectfully suggest you stick to the competitions. Happy to answer more questions in private.

  7. Be sure to check out The White Spring during your trip up the Tor, also if you're in town on Sunday come along to The Backdoor Man Blues Jam at The Hawthorns 5 - 7pm, where you can also enjoy a fantastic homemade curry.

  8. If anyone hasn't heard of this there is a booklet available to buy entitled 'The Swan Circle' by Ivan McBeth detailing the origins and building of the stone circle in Kings Meadow. It's available from www.unique-publications.co.uk for £5 + p&p and proceeds go to the Friends of Brides Mound, a volunteer group working for the conservation of a site near Pomparles Bridge which was the westerly entrance to the ancient Isle of Avalon, (you drive past it if you're coming from the M5). It's under 'Other Glastonbury Authors'.

Might help you get through to June !

  9. Have seen Michael/Emily around loads of times, at the festival and in the area. Never actually spoken to them but I did see ME a few years ago marching across T&C as the sun was coming up with two young ladies, one on each arm, both looking up at him adoringly and laughing away at his obvious charm and humour, striding off in the general direction of the farm. I think I was shuffling back to camp having failed once again to get into SE corner, feeling like death warmed up and dreading every step whilst this wave of star struck energy swept past, utterly oblivious to my pathetic appearance. I'm sure it was all completely innocent, they were probably his god daughters or something, volunteering for a charity I expect, and he was just chaperoning them home safely. It did remind me of the outtakes at the end of Toy Story 2 though, Pete The Prospector and the two young starlets !! Lad.

  10. Seller could make an awful lot more on this package than has been agreed, taking into account early arrival, on site parking, location, facilities, easy access into S.E. corner etc. This is the golden ticket !

Crew/performer tickets do not have photos on as names can genuinely need to be changed right up to festival time, however we have been advised to carry other photo i.d. to show when entering the site as gate staff have the right to ask for it. I have not been asked to show any myself although I know people who have. Whether or not they would point blank refuse you entry if you didn't have any I couldn't say, I think it's more of a deterrent than anything else.

As far as the morality of the situation goes these are allocated tickets and an allocated vehicle so there is no issue as to available space, somebody would be using them in any case. The issue is that festival goers are potentially missing out by having two less people performing for them. This practice does go on all the time, the general assumption is that only a very few tickets are passed on and usually only at face value, the funds are more often than not used for crew facilities. Anyone doing this on a large scale or for their own personal benefit would very quickly be found out by the rest of their team and would stand to lose their position. I can't speak for performers but volunteer team leaders put in a massive amount of time organising their teams for no financial reward, it often actually costs money to put it all together. They are also responsible for providing an agreed level of service, so they can't afford to sell off more than the odd ticket and only to people they can trust.

Make sure you get your crew/performer ticket, a T&C lanyard pass and your on-site vehicle pass. You should get your wristband from your vendor once you're on site, if he doesn't give it to you beforehand. You've got an amazing deal.

I was 18! Just graduated from high school! 3 friends and I heard there was a concert in New York and as I had a Plymouth Valient we bought tickets and headed there on Thursday. Couldn’t get within 5 miles so we had to dump the car beside the road and hike in. By the time we got there it was a free festival and I threw my ticket away! Would have been a nice souvenir now! As strange as it seems we left early Sunday as one of my friends had to be at work on Monday. Missed Hendrix and the rain! To be honest the only act I vividly remember Creedence Clearwater Revival. The rest was a psychedelic blur! ?

Hi I saw John Fogerty on West Holts some years ago, he was talking about his Woodstock memories and it was a great performance. Finished one song, switched guitars and straight into the next, fantastic. What made the evening even more insanely amazing was walking a few hundred yards to the Other Stage straight after and seeing The Stooges, complete with original line up and stage invasion. Another year I walked past Joan Baez along the top of the Pyramid Stage field as Leonard Cohen was playing on stage, she was just strolling along with one companion and no-one seemed to recognise her. One of those 'did that just happen ?' moments.  Only at Glastonbury. You're going to have an incredible time.

  12. Made it up there for about half four and had the place all to myself, and enjoyed a amazing sunrise. A really bizarre experience, but absolutely wonderful. A couple of people showed up just before sunrise and were busy taking pictures for a bit before leaving again, they must have got some fantastic shots. I've never seen a clear sunrise from there before but this morning was perfect, to see the alignment working exactly as intended is a real thrill and bathes the whole circle in the most beautiful light. It's amazing what you see when you just sit for a bit and be still, there were pheasants, rabbits, buzzards, all sorts of song birds making a racket, even a pair of fox cubs on the track in Dragon Field taking in the early sun.

I don't really visit that part of the site out of season but can really recommend it, it's incredibly beautiful and you just don't appreciate how much wildlife there is living there and how many spectacular trees there are. Seeing the fields out of the festival context makes you see the whole thing in a completely different way and I feel adds enormously to my appreciation of what the organisers achieve. Certainly adds weight to the 'love the farm leave no waste' message, if people could see it in all it's natural beauty they would surely be less inclined to view it as a resource to be trashed and more as something to be treasured and protected. I might be wrong tho !

Had a mooch about, Strummerville, Piano Bar, Joes Stone hidden in the trees, said hi to the Dragon, wandered along the railway line, etc. The easiest way into that corner is to park somewhere at the top of Cockmill Lane, wander back down the lane past Pennard Hill Farm and The Kings Hill Collective then just as the lane bends right hop over the verge, follow the track through one field and Dragon Field is on your left. Always the favoured place to get over the old fence (so I'm told).

Will definitely be visiting again before next June.

Maybe it's encouraging people to be flexible?

Shouldn't joke about this sort of thing, people get quite tai-chi about it.

In other news ...... gonna go for this tomorrow, weather says sunny intervals so might be lucky.

  14. My thoughts also, if you're fortunate enough to live close by and be able to make a last minute decision based on the likely weather. It is aligned to the midsummer sunrise so I should imagine there will be quite a bit of interest.

  15. If you find the direction pointer on top of the tor and you have a pair of binoculars look north east, past the church at West Pennard and on towards Pilton, you will be able to make out the fence as it runs around the top of the site at Lime Kiln/ Hitchin Hill with the Pilton Tithe Barn and Mr Eavis house just to the left of that. On a clear day. Which it will be!

  16. Manor Ground is a small field just to the west of Wicket that buts up to the fence, it's pretty much exactly where PGA used to be, and it's been used as family camping overspill the last couple of years. I heard that hospitality is doing a straight swap with JP, can't see them putting it outside the fence somehow.
