Hope The Courteeners are back, massive guilty pleasure of mine. Possible NME headliners?
-
Underwhelming. Think they're more suited to smaller niche fesitvals than headlining one of the major ones. Hoping for a decent headliner elsewhere on the day they play,
-
I really enjoyed their last two albums but yeah the set in 2009 was a bit moody and subdued. Maybe if Humbug had been out longer and I'd become acquainted with the songs I'd have appreciated it more.
Suck It And See has quite a feelgood sound about it, very Stone Roses influenced album.

Argh, today's news has frustrated me. I thought we finally had our set of headliners yesterday with Blur as an SR, then when Neil said it wasn't them I was convinced it was Green Day, only for Neil to confirm that they were out of the running too. Back to square one!
This may be a very long shot as it was only three years ago and they weren't very good, but Foo Fighters headlined in both 2002 and 2005, and this band will sell tickets...what about Kings Of Leon?
-
Have we no Photoshop geniuses on here who can take two separate maps, one with a Latitude marker on the other with R/L markers, distort them in the same way and see which matches The Cure's effort?
-
Well that blows it wide open again. I'm going to cling to the hope that what was said about Blur last night was simply a cover up and that Neil's sources yesterday were indeed right.
-
i hope not as i want to see them and it be worth it. don't want blur at leeds cuz of that gig, had them in thoughts for next year when i planned not to go. well if it is blur i reckon t and r&l will be fighting for fest exclusivity in killers next year. if tallica head nx year then killers at t. the big guns always do t before going the rest of england n tgey had blur.
-
Always thought the Blur not being an exclusive thing could still be a goer, after all they're only playing the single Hyde Park show specifically for the Olympics event when they could easily sell out a few nights. Plus, the fact it is an Olympics event means it's harder for most outside of London to get there due to the inflated costs the Olympics bring. Therefore a festival appearance or two in the summer would make sense for all parties. Fingers crossed.

Someone's either gone to a lot of bother to create a fake magazine, or we're looking at the real deal? If it's fake, it's the most convincing I've seen yet.
-
Any word on where this is likely to be staged, Neil?
-
Arctic Monkey's secret set will kick off the main stage at 1pm tomorrow!
-
Give it 4/5 more years and they'll headline R/L to fill the coffers back up. Glad I got to see them when I did though, them and Arcade Fire on the same night was unreal.

Tbf if they're TBC on here they're more than likely playing in some shape or form.

Itch, of the King Blues, just retweeted this:
On tonight's Radio One @bbcr1 Punk Show with Mike Davies we get to hear the 2011 Lock Up line-up http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006wq52 -
-
in this thread, no one actually knows anything but think they do.
Eavis has headliners for Glasto 2013 & 2013 booked. It's all dependant on when they meet.
-
Yeh but for the fans. A lot of bands have songs of their own that they don't like. Alex Turner said he hates 'I bet you look good on the dancefloor' and Thom Yorke has never liked creep and they rarely play it live. That's why it was so surprising that they did it in 2009.

Could put a spanner in the works if he does get locked up.

Right so we we're promised staggeringly good, exclusive headliners.
Now before you come in with, they're headline exclusives, don't. The fact we have the exclusivity of other festivals also rans as top dogs doesn't was with me, sorry. It's a complete shambles of an exclusivity agreements.
Now lets look at what we have...
Muse - Playing a special OoS show. Only UK&Ireland date. Well done, ticks all boxes.
Strokes - Big return. Past R/L headliners. However they're subs at Oxegen and playing the second stage and R1 Big Weekend. Sorry, I love these guys, but they don't live up to Melvin's billing.
Pulp - Playing everywhere. No.
MCR - Not even subbing at TitP or Oxegen. Subbing at R1 Big Weekend. Poorly received last time they played when they were arguably reaching there peak. A very poor booking.
Sorry but todays R1BW announcements coupled with T and Oxegen make Melvin look a fool and makes a mockery of the so called 'staggeringly good, exclusive headliners'.
-
I still believe that regardless of tastes and whether or not you like the headliners the fact they cannot even get a sub spot at a festival that R/L is in direct competition is detrimental to the marketing of R/L.
-
The first time Muse headlined Glastonbury they subbed V fest the same year. Different festivals have different demographics, and an act like MCR could easily show that they're being booked too low down by these other festivals.
-
I thought last years line-up was brilliant! Massive improvement on 09 anyway.
-
Poor ticket sales are nothing but beneficial to the festival in the long run. It'll be the kick up the arse the organisers need because this line-up, and last years, just don't match up or compete with other festivals around.
Best show ever?

By some distance Pulp at Leeds last year, absolutely blew me away. I, admittedly, wasn't a massive Pulp fan going into it and I wasn't expecting much, but it was easily the best festival set I've had the pleasure of witnessing. This is coming from someone who is both a massive fan of Arcade Fire and The Libertines. It also came after a day where I was horribly ill and had drank nothing but water all day, their set cheered me right up and I felt much, much better afterwards.
