  1. By that newly crowned pop princess line, I'd say it's Marina and the Diamonds wouldn't you think? I really can't stand her music.

And the BBC Sound of 2010 Longlist artist - on the SSW Twitter it said, 'no words', so I'm going with Gold Panda who remixes samples. Good album.

    Not sure on the other.

  2. Well I'm a tad gutted there's not a nifty DJ announcement like Yoda or Mr Scruff for the Friday, but overall, i'm really looking forward to the festival. I'll defo be heading off to Roots Manuva!

There's been enough times when I've not known bands at a festival (take Great Escape in Brighton), have popped along and I've come away thinking those have been the highlights. That's where the gems come from.

I'll be purchasing my ticket as soon as Mr Bank allows.

  3. I can understand people being underwhelmed as a lot of those are not mainstream names, or are on the verge of being mainstream. But with all due respects when has Summer Sundae ever been a festival that champions the well known drivel that V Festival and sometimes, Reading and Leeds does?

Most of the stuff so far is quality new/ relatively new music and I suggest people actually give it a listen first before dismissing it because they've not heard of it.

  4. Los Campesinos! will be really good to see - were impressive at The Musician the other week and at Glastonbury a few years ago so looking forward to seeing them again.

Frightened Rabbit never seem to play a bad set and Futureheads will be solid. I've got high expectations for Errors too!

By the second stage that's the indoor one isn't it?

I'll be attempting to see all of that lot :P

  5. Just to be clarify:

We usually announce a number of artists before the end of the early bird ticket. Only after that do we actually state which day the various acts are playing.

This year there's an exception: we're announcing the first acts for the Drowned in Sound stage... now! Drowned in Sound take-over the DMH stage on Sunday 15th.

NB We will announce all the bills from "top" to "bottom" day-by-day in one months time, approx.

    cheers

    Rob

  6. The Go! Team sound like a Friday headliner to me.

And blimey that Ride suggestion is a bit of a tenuous link... who knows? Bit stuck on that.

I'd definitely go for Johnny Flynn for the 'This lad is in like....' - purely because of the In Like Flint film and putting two and two together.

I wouldn't mind seeing Goldfrapp on the bill.

  7. Having totted up that I could've bought a decent car with the money I spent on festivals last year, I've banned myself from Bestival :P

Hot Chip and Flaming Lips are brilliant choices, but when Prodigy were added that definitely kept my bank balance from slipping further into the red.

Still, it'll be awesome whoever plays!

  8. Frightened Rabbit played a couple of years ago on the Rising Stage - a great live band and the intensity of their set was something else.

I'd agree it'd be great to have them back. Are you listening to their Midnight Organ Flight record or the new one? Is there much of a difference between them?

  9. I'm listening to the Frightened Rabbit album now and thinking they cancelled last year... Would love to see them on the bill.

I really think Summer Sundae has got a lot more of a punch to pack yet. They've had to jump through a million and one hoops just to get this year's fest to even happen. Looking forward to the next announcements :P

  10. And that matters why? I've been reading them for ages but never got around to registering. Jesus chill out on the League of Gentlemanism! :P

I've been writing reviews for newspapers and music websites for years so if you're anything like your post suggests, this shouldn't upset your obvious need for everyone who comments on here to have a justification.

I still stand by the fact it's not that bad. There are some great small bands on that list and I have had Erland and the Carnival on my list ever since I listened to the album in January.

The Sunshine Underground might be indie pop but they're no worse than The Mystery Jets last year, The Whip are an awesome live act too and The Fall fill the bracket of the Saturday mid evening band.

    I can't wait for the weekend! :P
