  1. 7am in the morning it's pretty empty - 7pm it's pretty full. Nearly everyone arrives Thursday and the campsites get pretty full. There will still be some space for you to squeeze into, but the earlier the better if you have a big group.

  2. You shouldn't need it for entry.

The age restriction on the festival is 16+ but people younger are allowed in as long as they're accompanied by an adult. So it's only an issue if you look really young and don't have someone 18+ going with you. imo you should be fine.

  3. There is a separate exit these days for the campsite and day ticket holders and day ticket holders aren't supposed to go into the campsite.

No guarantees, but usually when the headliners finish each night they stop checking due to number of people leaving, so it's pretty easy to go through the campsite exit. You'd almost certainly get through and not have any issues, but would probably be kicked out if caught.

  4. "As part of our terms and conditions we do not permit makeshift campervans/caravans on site at our events.  Many won’t have sufficient ventilation, water or door separation, and the risk from the gas and fire is an obvious one.

Festival Republic and Department for Transport definition of campervans/caravans:

There must be a door that provides access to the living accommodation.
A bed, which is an integral part of the living quarters which has a minimum length of 1800mm or 6 feet. This can be converted at night from seats used for other purposes during the day but must be permanently fixed within the body of the vehicle.

There must be a water storage tank or container on or in the vehicle.
A seating and dining area, permanently attached to the vehicle. The table may be detachable but must have some permanent means of attachment to the vehicle. It’s not good enough to have a loose table.

There must be a permanently fixed means of storage, a cupboard, locker or wardrobe.

There must be a permanently fixed cooking facility within the vehicle powered by gas or electricity.

There must be at least one window on the side of the accommodation"

Don't know how strictly they stick to it but...that's from the website.

  5. I was looking into this a few days ago and couldn't see anything about it.

My theory is basically this years festival is going to sell out regardless because there is no Glasto. It doesn't make sense for them to add in extra acts/stages. It would increase costs and bring in no extra revenue. can't think of many companies who would do that.

I'm very skeptical about the rumors, but the only was i could see it happening is with an increase in tickets or a bump in price. What I saw though looking at previous license details, is that when the numbers have been bumped up, the approval has been given quite soon before the festival, not the start of the year. So...maybe....but I still don't really see it.

The other thing is the size of the arena - it's changes a few times in the past an it would have to get bigger again to include an extra stage and more people. idk what the situation is at leeds, but I'd imagine it would be pretty easy at reading to add more camping over the river and move things about a bit.

  6. It used to be a big problem - haven't seen it in a few years. Used to be people robbing tents while everyone slept. If they found anyone awake they'd just say 'sorry wrong tent' and leave.

Maybe about 7-8 years ago our group and everyone around us either had stuff nicked or had their tent gone through - all on the wed-thursday nights. The stuff they're after is cash, phones, cameras, ipods....small and high value. That's pretty much it. From what was being said at the time it wasn't just Reading, it was organised gangs going round a few festivals just to rob people.

Just sleep with your stuff at the bottom of your sleeping bag - 14 festivals and all I've ever had nicked is beer and firewood that got left out because I was too drunk to put it inside my tent.

  7. That's a barrier to prevent crowd surges/crushes.

It's all general entry and you get to the front bit by going around the sides - which are open.

It's not that hard to get to the front at Reading - generally if you go in when the band before is finishing you'll get right up the front for everyone but the headliners, even for them you can easily get into the front portion.

Reading Festival organisers have said that the quiet sound levels on the Main Stage throughout the weekend (August 22-24) were out of their control.

Fans and some bands have complained to NME.COM during the festival that the volume on the principal stage has been too quiet, making it difficult to connect with the large crowds it attracts.

The problem was particularly acute during headline acts Rage Against The Machine and The Killers.

However, speaking to NME.COM, festival chief Melvin Benn said that the volume had been out of his control this weekend.

"The levels on site are almost entirely dictated by the levels offsite," he explained. "The [local] council set levels by which noise, sound can't be above a certain decibel level on certain residential properties nearby [the site].

"They've set exactly the same level that they always set, but the atmospheric conditions [this year] has meant that the sound is staying low and hitting those decibel readings much, much earlier than normal. So we have to turn our levels down."

He added that because of the weather, the sound had been recorded at much louder volumes offsite than normal.

"There's somebody offsite from the council and somebody in front of house [in the area] from the council basically saying it's too high over there [offsite], so we've got to lower it over here," he said. "To be honest, last night, for Bloc Party and The Killers, I had to just say 'I can't lower it, I've got to get it a little bit higher'. So I've got to face the music after the festival."

However Benn said he was confident the problem could be avoided next year.

"I've got a meeting with my acoustic engineers, and I'll present to the council what I intend to do," explained Benn.

  9. Unfortunatly - these guys do this for a living. Selling football tickets is illegal, but the government has decided not to make re-selling concert tickets illegal.

So....every year there are a bunch of these agencies, every year they fail to deliver and make off with a bunch of peoples money before closing down and every year a new crop (run by the same people) re-appears.

    List so far is:

Some of these are probably flagged up by e-festivals, so you can't even mention them here without text to tell you that they're a rip-off. Sorry, but they've made their money, and they'll be back next year to make more. Until the law changes they'll just change the company name and do it again.
