  1. Nothing stank. I enjoyed everything I saw at different levels. Bob Log III was a fav though, both his gigs were excellent and fun. I loved Mogwai, especially after all my friends told me they weren't as great as before.

Lykke Li was very good but it felt like the audience wasn't into her much, when she played a short sample of the Knife, some people around me started moving until they realised it was only a sample...

I enjoyed Megafaun too, great little band and very communicative. Wooden Shijps, Kurt Vile, CYHSY, HEALTH, well, I won't mention them all but I thoroughly loved all the music this year.

  2. I'll add my thoughts to this thread as a 2nd timer. First time, I was so impressed with the vibe but the line -up lacked a bit of oomph for me. This year, I have not seen any bad band at all. I did love Mogwai and I thought they went down well at that time in the evening. I love the fact that most bands compliment the festival when on stage, I see it as "we had a good time today, let's give good time back".

Regarding the layout and the capacity, it didn't feel as bad as I thought it may be.

The extension of the Woods stage means that there is a lot more space for the increase. It did however lose a bit of the community feeling.

The Woods stage wasn't as pretty and intimate though, I know it is the main stage but the Garden one had a more unique feel and setting.

The comedy stage was brilliant although a bit of a trek to get to. Talking about trek, what was the path to the camping area about???!!! What a pain!! I'm not a lazy bum or anything but as we arrived late, we got put in the overflow car park and gosh, it was a hike! I never seen rocks that big in my LIFE!

The areas in the woods with circus and all that meant that the "main" area lost a bit of a fun feeling though.

Someone mentioned the two 12 yr old girls asking for fags, I saw them too!! I don't think it is necessarily an indicator of the population change as in general, it was quite chilled out. But I wouldn't want to see it increasing any more. I would ideally like to see a better way to get to the camp site and the Woods stage being made a bit... more friendly?

  3. I'm super excited, watching youtube for live performances, hoping hopelessly for Mogwai to play The sun smells too loud as the video is brill( not found a live one yet)

kind of reminds me of the EOTR spirit :)
  4. Friday: Bo Ningen, Beirut

    Saturday: Wooden Shjips, Mogwai

    Sunday: Kurt Vile, Midlake

It's so hard to get it down to 2, there are many artists I want to "check out" (Bo Ningen), others I absolutely want to see but might end up somewhere else because of clashes/seen them before/heard they aren't as good as I remembered (Mogwai). Only a few that I will not move from (Kurt Vile) for any reason (apart from act of god). I just want to see so much..

  5. Just been listening to Austra for the first time. I'm really liking the music, a bit Florence & the Machine-like but better. Just found out she's on at the same time as Bob Log III. Boo

I wonder why I'm doing a music catch-up with bands I don't know as my timetable is pretty full on already.

  6. obviously not this year, but one thing i really enjoyed at latitude this year was future cinema showing an hour or two of shorts (5-10 minutes films). some truly great stuff (and some meh stuff too) but it worked very well.

edit question: is the cinema "comfy" or do you rely on your own padding?

  7. Definitely up for The Iron Giant, actually I'm quite excited about it. The other animations aren't as exciting unfortunately. And for those who say that you can't possibly go because of the line-up, try the morning or late night sessions! I went last year quite a few times and it's great! No missing bands!

  8. I love Kurt Vile since Childish Prodigy. Saw him in a small pub in Madrid a few years back and he is, without a doubt, one of the people I bought my tickets for. If you have been listening to Smoke Rings, make sure that you also listen to Childish Prodigy, there are many hits on it too

  9. Skunk Anansie were on the main stage when it happened. Really scary. I went to the pukkelpop 2 years ago and it's a great (big) festival. Such a shame that this happened. I still have a lot of friends who go there and they're all fine. I'm sincerely shocked. It could happen anywhere, at the EOTR, considering the amount of trees and all, it could be devastating.

  10. Woop! Any news about the festival now makes me happy. So looking forward to it!

On Facebook I asked LWL about the line-up (again) and they said "Little White Lies magazine: Very soon! Got some exciting films on the bill this year"

    Exciting!!

  11. 2 Cancellations – 2 Replacements (11/08/11)

We are really sorry to share with you the news that The Love Language and Lia Ices have both had to cancel their trips across the pond for this year's festival. We will miss them both, and hopefully they will be able to make the journey next year instead.

To replace these two artists, we have booked Spectrals and The Lazy Susans. We are so happy that they were both able to say Yes on such short notice, and we very much look forward to having them at the festival.
