Thames festival 2004


This festival stretches all the way from Tower Bridge to the London Eye, making it Europe's longest festival.

Featuring Lost Vagueness, who will be hosting all-day latino Sounds and a carnival at the Jubilee Garden beneath the London Eye on the South Bank. The Beat are headlining on Saturday supported by Harry Martin and London Swingphonia featuring Marilyn Monroe – a 22 piece big band plus music hall queens, Ida Barr and Tina C; Can Bouty Can Girls and Go-Go dancers. Judges in the audience will be handing out prizes for the boldest dancers. Headlining on Sunday, are the Top Cats fronted by Natty Bo and Megume, with support from Babyhead and more from Harry Martin and the London Swingphonia; the Can Bouty Can Girls, and also Lucifire - with fire and a forked tongue; exotic dancers and more

On the green, next to Gabriel's Wharf on both days, you can find the Lost Vagueness Tearooms which features the Laundrettas with musical support from London's 78 DJs, The Jazz Fools.

In the Bernie Spain Gardens, there's the Dodgem Dance Ballroom, with a dance tryout giving you the chance to groove the weekend away. Each set is from a Club with a DJ, with teachers from dance schools including a wide range of styles: flamenco, Merengue and Cuban Dance, West African jump up`n`shake, bellydancing swing and 21st century clubbing on Saturday; and on Sunday, tango, burlesque from Lost Vagueness, synchronised Soca dance and carnival moves, latin grooves and salsa and finally Punjabi remix beats.

Also, on Sunday, the Experimental Electro Area, in the Tate Gardens, plans a circle of sound with curator, Nick Luscombe, laptop jammers and experimental music makers.

Over 1.5 miles of street theatre will be taking place including Dot Comedy, Natural Theatre, Strangelings, Bramble FM, Crash 70, Avanti Display Team, Empress Stilts, Sense 3D, Swizzleshaker, Splott Brothers, London School of Samba, Whalley Range All Stars, All Weather Band, Herby Treehead, Miss Behave and more.
