Southburgh Festival of World Music 2013


The fifth Southburgh Festival of World Music takes place from Friday 26th until Sunday 28th July 2013. The festival is being organised by the Mudeka Foundation - a charity that helps AIDS orphans and disadvantaged children in Zimbabwe. The festival is going to be a family-friendly event with workshops, dancing and a line-up of from all over the world. It is located just south of Dereham, at Burton Manor Barns about 20 minutes from the city of Norwich.

Line-up

Kanda Bongo Man, The Turbans, The Vagaband, Stranger Culture, Mammal Hands, Foolhardy Circus, and more to be announced. 

Tickets

Weekend tickets with camping are priced at £55 for adults and £25 for children aged under 12. Family, concession, day, and evening tickets are also available. To buy tickets, click here.

There will also be a range of musical workshops and fun family activities. Children and adults of all ages are encouraged to take part in the workshops and engage in performances, such as pottery making, salsa dance, African drumming, Mazeak making, t-shirt printing, Zulu dancing, Mbira Singing, yoga and Tai Chi. This year’s food stalls include, Moroccan, Spanish, Italian/American pizzas, Caribbean and locally produced burgers and hotdogs. 

This year's festival sees the introduction of a toddlers’' play area, fully equipped with toys and books and a children’s activity tent. There will also be a healing area run by the Orange grove clinic.

Charity

 

The festival, which is now in its fifth year, is the brainchild of musician Anna Mudeka – the founder of Norfolk charity The Mudeka Foundation. Proceeds from ticket sales will help rebuild and furnish a dilapidated high school building in the village of Muda, in Zimbabwe.
