Sunday review

Solfest 2006 reviews

After another incredibly cold night, despite wearing everygthing that was dry in my rucksack, I crawled out of the tent on Sunday morning to find a gale lashing at the kites which have been flying over the site, and testing all but the most proficiently erected tents. It was clear there as a storm brewing, and the only question was when it would break.

Musically day three's highlights were in short supply. The afternoon on the main stage was devoted to three very different acts - Synko, Delivo, and Hammerhead. Synko's ska tinged grunge was a great antidote to the night before, and they drew a very respectable crowd to the stage during an impressive set.

Hammerhead did prog rock by numbers, and it was the sort of thing that would go down well in a pub on a Friday night. It gave the band the chance to do their rockstar thing, but people were generally disinterested.

Unfortunately for Delivo, the rain arrived just before they did, sending the less hardy scuttling for the bar tent, which was a shame as they played an impressive, upbeat set, which actually seemed to make the rain go away. It appears that Delivo play all the songs that Dodgy forgot to write, and it was just that kind of up tempo, summery feel that was needed on a cold, wet, windy Cumbrian day.

Many of those brave enough to hang around took solace in the dance and bar tents, which meant that the bands on the main stage for the rest of the day played to crowds of far less than could be expected. As the night wore on, many people took the poor weather as an excuse for an early exit, but having seen the very best of Solfest on Friday and Saturday, Sunday's lineup lacked any real bite, seemed distinctly average, and if I'm honest, it was a bit of a letdown.
