Rheinkultur started as a festival for around 4,000 people in 1983, and grew into Germany's biggest FREE festival with audiences of up to 200,000 people at its zenith in 2011. The audience comes from all over Germany and adjacent countries to see a multitude of different styles on six different stages.
The festival was held annually on the last weekend of June or the first weekend of July. The event was financed through beverage sales, sponsor support and public funding by the city of Bonn. The festival was committed to conservation and sustainability, and was very popular amongst local, up-and-coming acts, labels and agents.
