Oxford Jazz Festival 2009


The first annual Oxford Jazz Festival takes place from Thursday 9th until Sunday 12th April with acclaimed jazz artists performing in some of Oxford's finest and most historic venues, including the Oxford Union Debating Chamber, the Wesley Memorial Church, the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building, the North Wall Arts Centre, and Saint Michael at the North Gate, the oldest building in Oxford.

The line-up includes:
Thursday: Sarah Gillespie Quartet featuring Gilad Atzmon, Sandi Russell, Bobby Wellins with Pete Oxley, Mark Doffman & Raph Mizraki, and The Blofeld Experiment.
Friday: Jazz Factor, Blake's Heaven, Trish Elphinstone Quintet, Andrea Mann, Tim Lapthorne (piano) & Tim Dawes (d. bass), and Julian Siegel.
Saturday: Jazzelation, Mahood, Emma Blake, Alvin Roy, 3bpm, Eclectica!, Ntshuks Bonga/Alexander Hawkins Duo, and Gwyneth Herbert.
Sunday: Nick Blake, Katya Gorrie Trio with Denny Ilett Jnr., Dave Lewis Trio, Branco Stoysin Trio, Sara Mitra Trio, Jasmine Nelson with Dave Colton (gtr) & Tim Dawes (d. bass), a the festival Grand Finale double bill with Ian Shaw Quartet (headline act) and Sophie Garner Quintet. There is also a Jazz Jam each night at Jazz Cellar, The Big Bang Restaurant where festival goers can join in with their own instruments.

Tickets vary from £5, to £25 depending on the event. There are discounts for buying multiple tickets, 2 events gets a 7.5% discount, 3 events gets a 10% Discount, and 4+ events gets a 15% Discount. To buy tickets for some events online, click here.
