Music India 2011


Music India takes place from Monday 25th until Saturday 30th July 2011 at The Capstone, Liverpool Hope University, in Merseyside.

For the first time this year Milapfest (the UK's Indian Arts Development Trust) will run two summer festivals of Music and Dance in Liverpool. Taking place in July and August respectively. The two week long festivals, Music India and Dance India, will provide a unique opportunity for audiences in the North West to experience the vast range of performing arts styles originating from India.

Music India is a series of concerts, and workshops for musicians of all backgrounds. The festival features a star-studded line up of tutors, composers and performers, all of whom will perform each night of the festival.

Line-up

Music India will feature performances from both the Northern Hindustani style and the Southern Carnatic styles of Indian classical music. Festival performances each night will feature stars of Hindustani and Carnatic music including Bombay Jayashri (star vocalist), Shashank (flute), Tarun Bhattacharya (santoor) and Gaurav Mazumdar (sitar) among many others yet to be announced.

Each evening performance will feature a post-performance talk with the musicians. Music India will provide workshop opportunities for anyone wishing to earn about or play an Indian instrument.

Accommodation

This event does not have camping but there are a number of hotels, hostels and guest houses in the area.
